While in Padre we decided to check their kites out while driving down the main drag. Discovered their prices were very reasonable and ended up adding a couple of more kites to our collection. The next day, one of our old kites broke. So we decided to run back to the kite store to see if they could help. Not only did they help and fix our broken kite, but ended up teaching us so much more about kite flying. I highly recommend going and chatting with the owners. They are so friendly and so incredibly helpful!

They helped us find kites for our vacation. They even suggested one our 2 year old can fly that she loves! Great selection and prices.

We stop by every year during our wind surfing trip to SPI. They have the poles and other supplies we need to fly the sock kites we use at our house.

We had the best time in here. They are so sweet and showed the girls all the cool stuff. We ended up with a very good quality kite! Can’t wait to get back to the beach ;)

This was my first time in a kite shop, so I wouldn’t know how to rate a kite shop or compare it against others but I’d have to say it gets 5 stars for Bill and his wonderful and helpful attitude. My husband and I are staying on Padre for our honeymoon and we decided to feed our inner child and get a kite. Of course, we know nothing beyond what we used to do as children, but Bill took care of us. He left us to look around and when we asked where to look for kites for today’s weather(it’s quite windy), he told us exactly what would fare well, showed us all the sizes and colors and taught us how to set them up. When we picked one, he got it ready to fly and put it back in the bag so we could just pull it out and go! This man sure does know his kites! He was very funny and sweet. If you have kids or you just want to go fly a kite, this is a must-stop on Padre.

Cool place. But is more for the professional. Pretty pricey for the kids to all have a kite. However the quality was excellent.

I have taken many a kiteboarding kite to Bill for repair. He does an excellent repair and his price is very reasonable. He makes every effort to get the kite back to the kiteboarder so he can get back on the water. I have also purchased regular recreational kites, poles and spinners from his store. They have a great selection. Also, Bill is a pretty cool guy.

A great kite and banner and flag and all sorts of nylon goodies shop. I actually got a cute little kite here, shaped like a fish. It’s quite a good quality kite for being kind of gimmicky, and it was on sale. This is a decently sized shop with a broad range of offerings. To the right as I walked in were a whole bunch of house flags. The seasonal ones actually kind of attracted me. If I lived in a stately little brick house I’d definitely fly a Halloweeny or Thanksgiving flag from this store out front of it. Come to think of it, there were a bunch of flags and windsocks in here that my 64 year old mother would love, in addition to kites for kids, and more serious fare for enthusiasts. Jim, who I’d call an enthusiast, got a nice tale for his old kite here. With the way the winds blow in South Padre, shouldn’t you too go nab yourself a cute kite to fly peacefully along the beach? It’s a good time.

I first got into what I’ll call«serious» kiting when my family began vacationing on North Carolina’s Outer Banks back in the late 1980’s. The historic Kitty Hawk association with flight has given birth to a whole cottage industry of sorts there with hang gliding lessons on the dunes and very hard core kite shops. I tried multi-liners a few times, but my joy has always been in the design of the kite and manipulating a single line to create behaviors — a less dramatic, more subtle, and probably for some a less satisfying art form. Anyway, I’ve had a five foot parafoil for about 20 years now, and I never liked the tail I had for it. So I stopped in B&S to see if I could find something better. They had an elaborate selection of ribbon tails, tube tails, wind socks, spinners, &c. I’m hopeful that the spinner I picked out is both long enough and not too heavy to work with my kite(which I forgot to bring with me to SPI in the first place). The prices here are amazing. They had a HUGE crystal frame kite at literally 1⁄10th what I thought the price tag was going to say. I had no grounds to justify buying it, which made me very sad, because it was very, very pretty. But we did get Liz a simple modified diamond/A frame done up to look like a damsel fish — very handsome which was also fantastically priced and came equipped with a modest, simple handle of very stout nylon line. They have everything from holiday flags/banners to air socks to kids kites to serious single line kites and a whole back room of multi-line stunt kites. Maybe someday I’ll get into a multi-line set up if I can find one where they haven’t sacrificed the aesthetics of the kite just to make it do tricks. And if I do find such a thing, I suspect I’ll find it at B&S.

Walking into B & S Kites makes you feel like you’re a kid again. The place is filled with magical and colorful opportunities to let out the inner child, big smiles and all. We were greeted by a friendly sales associate in a very welcoming way. He offered us a «tour» of all the kite and toy choices. The kites ranged from a small life size butterfly kite for $ 3 to more expensive, professional sizes and styles of kites. They also carry a wide selection of wind socks and wind chimes for the home and garden. We enjoyed watching the kids explore their options; playing with the blooming flowers and space spinning toys, and examining all the varieties of kites. From the looks on their faces and their laughter, we could tell they enjoyed the adventure as well. Spanning the entire range of kites, we purchased the butterfly kite for my sister. She is from the fairy realm herself. We also chose a much more serious, made for adult kite for my husband, an avid kite flyer. The kids found one somewhere in the middle; a beautiful solar kite made with see through material with a very long tail. This one flew itself for most of the weekend, simply tied to our beach chair. The store was perfect and the wind was, too. We couldn’t ask for anything more in a kite store, especially in a beach town full of knickknacks that are often over priced. Visiting B & S Kites was part of the fun of kite flying at the South Padre Island, one that we will remember fondly. I hope to return to B & S in the future, when we are ready for our next colorful kite addition.
