The service is excellent, had their speciality drink «Lawrence», I must say it was very good, as was their appetizers… however the dinner wasn’t that great. If you want to have drinks and appetizers this is the place to go!

Very good food. Fun place for New Year’s Eve

I read another comment that called this a «hidden gem,» that I agree with. Have the bbq roasted chicken with the sweet potato So good, it has me coming back, its moist, tasty, cooked just right. Oh and the zucchini bread holymoly wacamole yummers! So good, I ate like a thousand and no the staff did not curse me out! Generous! My drink woah! It superceedes my expectation. generous. oh and the cherry topper, the band! #GladIcame! I wld recommend.

This place is an oasis in the South Orange/​Maplewood area. Good food, a very friendly crowd and staff (I go about once a month, but the bartenders usually remember me, my usual drink, and ask about my family.). This is a friendly neighborhood place; but the food quality and set up are a step above your typical corner bar. It’s a great place for young professionals to congregate and hear some live jazz. It’s an oasis of friendly urban jazz smoothness in the suburbs.
The only downsides are that it can be a little bit pricey (but worth it), and the bar can get crowded on weekend nights. But they’re still friendly, and the service is prompt.

The best attribute of this place is the family-​like environment. The happy hour specials are almost unbelievably reasonable. The staff, particularly the bartenders, are very personable and make you feel at home. Be sure to bring a DD because the good tasting drinks and happy hour specials make it impossible to leave after one drink.

Held my 25^th birthday party in their private back room and it was pretty bad. The service was suuuuper slow even though the owner told me there would be specific waiters/​waitresses catering to my party. My guests even started complaining and I felt really bad.
I called the manager and complained about it the next day and nothing was resolved. I called again about a week later to complain again and was promised a gift card but never received it. I will most likely not be returning.

Usually this is my favorite spot to sit at the bar and have the butterfly martini and bar food. Thursday is the night this spot is busy. I arrived around 6:50pm and my girlfriend was seated at the lounge. She arrived 15 minutes earlier so she could order in time for happy hour. Service was bad in the lounge. The bartender/​server hadn’t gotten my drink or taken her food order. We decided to sit in the dining room. The server was ok, but the drinks once again took forever to arrive. I decided to take my food to go. I ordered the 22.00 Oxtail. When I got home the Oxtail was tough. If I were at the restaurant I would’ve sent it back. If I were you I’d stick to the salmon. Usually the bartenders are attentive especially when I sit at the bar. I won’t be sitting at the lounge again or in the dining room.

I rarely write reviews but I just left this place about an hour ago and it will be my last time ever attending here. I always enjoyed eating here but this time I had to track down a waiter who told me he’s busy right now. If it wasn’t for my pregnant wife I would have left immediately because she was looking forward to the food. The good wasn’t an issue besides my crème brûlée but this will definately be the last time I ever visit here due to the service

Great martinis! Great food ! Grest service ! Great atmosphere ! Loved everything about my experience. Will be back!

I’ve been to this spot in my town a bunch of times.
This is an older crowd than what I usually see. Not a big deal.
The food is good. But the portion sizes are robbery. I’m just not a fan of paying more than I normally would and getting something that won’t fill me up. Never made sense to me leaving a restaurant hungry.
The drinks are great. If there were any reason why I’d want to go to Papillon, it’s gotta be their specialty drinks. I’m not too big on mixed drinks, but they have one of the wider selections in town. I’m a gin guy so having over 50 different types of martini is a plus for me. However, they don’t carry as wide a selection of different gins as I’d like. You can find any of their gins at just about any bar.(Bombay+B. Sapphire, Beefeater, Tanqueray)
I went to this spot on a Friday at about 9pm and I saw something i’d see at no other bar in town, I was the only person on the bar! Now that’s just crazy. So you don’t know what to expect with this spot. sometimes it’ll be packed and getting service is going to be tight. Sometimes it’s desolate and you have to ask yourself «Am I an alcoholic?»

No hostess to seat us upon arrival. We stood waiting for 10minutes before we were acknowledged. Service was very slow, and servers were inattentive. My grandmother loves this place, which is why we were there. What turned me off most was that we arrived around 6:30pm and were charged a 20% auto-​gratuity for our dinner because of the live entertainment, which we did not get an opportunity to enjoy because we were leaving before they were going on at 8:30pm. I have no issues with paying extra for entertainment, but only if I get to enjoy it. Especially when the service wasnt great. I’ve called several times to address my concerns with management, but no one is ever available.

Kool Spot… live music. performers switched up during our time here which was pleasant almost like a private concert. nice intimate setting and our Waiter Aaron was A1… drinks where strong but still drinkable… it was a full house but food still came in a timely fashion .no complaints here. Party of 3. My two cousins and I. We arrived at around 9pm on a Monday. The place was more or so empty. There was no hostess to greet us. I keyed in on the man in the back of the room bussing and made eye contact. He ended up seating us. He does not speak.
Our waitress, Pamela, finally came to us after about 10 minutes of waiting. I asked for the size of their Pellegrino bottle and she said she didn’t know. She didn’t offer to inquire about it. She just didn’t know and no one would ever know. Right.
It took another 20 minutes to get a bread basket. The zucchini bread was pretty awesome. It was served by our lovely non speaking bus guy/​hostess.
My cousin got the Side Car. It was supposed to come with a sugar rim and lemon. It came with no rim. It came with orange. We sent it back. It came back with sugar this time (hooray) but again, with orange.
Pamela never checked up on us.
Onto the food. Lackluster. I had the fried chicken with Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. I’m a super duper fan of fried chicken and those specific side dishes so I was looking forward to it. The chicken was dry, which is the one thing you don’t do with fried chicken. The Mac and cheese had no flavor. Just melted cheese and elbow pasta. The mash was decent. It was just too little of a portion compared to the mac and cheese.
One of the bartenders and/​or manager slapped A regular’s ass as she walked by. How professional.
It took forever to get our checks. It was just slow. Really, really show. It was Monday. It wasn’t a full house. Get it together. I’m from Miami and I just wanted a nice night out with family. This sucked.
The zucchini bread gave that one star. It was awesome.

So came here w some Co-​workers for happy hour and the place was packed and it’s always packed … I love the scene here, it’s a mixed professional crowd and if you’re single this is the place to be …
I’m solely making a review about the service, drinks, and appetizers.
Service was slow extremely slow especially when the order was simple 3 cocktails, and 2 appetizers…
Drinks could of been better I understand is happy hour but drinks were still $ 10 ($ 15 if not happy hour) it lacked alcohol and it had too much ice … Why bars do that? I don’t get it.
And as appetizers we got the jerk wings and cracked.
For the price it should of been better…
The wings lacked flavor lots of it,
And the crab cakes tasted like the ones in the frozen aisle.
The presentation was gorgeous but what do I care about presentation if the food lacks seasonings.

This place has went downhill. The owner and staff are nasty, at times just rude. The food no longer taste anything special. The martini’s are the only thing that remains in good standing. Will not give them anymore business.
In the past this place received a lot business from myself, family and friends. My sister’s bridal shower was even held here.

I have to be honest. Yannie is so pleasant that she alone was worth my visit. Papillion 25 has amazing staff persons and decent bartenders. Unfortunately, our dinner party was ruined by a long wait the for food service from the kitchen and a horrible attitude by the chef/​owner of the establishment. An individual in our party stated that she was not a fan of the food and was feeling sick due to the chicken. The owners defensive response was, «well I’ve been cooking for 16 years, have the best food in south orange, and i have hundreds of people return for my food. You’re just one person» with a very nasty demeanor and tone. #inappropriate
Now, she also insinuated something about not receiving anything off of the $ 740 bill. Unbeknownst to her… the drink bill was settled and the waitress had the money for the food bill. It was never about receiving a discount. A discount that no one asked for.
What was very clear is that the owner does not have a tolerance for guest who are not there to compliment her. The people of south orange and surrounding neighborhoods deserve better treatment than that.
Decent place for drinks, Cool relaxed atmosphere, and Amazing staff members but the owner’s attitude is very unprofessional, lackluster, and rude to say the least.
I do not recommend! Don’t waste your time. Flavorless food and nasty attitude from the chef/​owner.

Great little intimate bar in South Orange. Feels good wine selection of friendly staff and good patrons.

For the first time I ate here last night. Loved the ambiance. It’s a great place for a date night. Candle lit dinner, great music, great drinks and the food makes it a perfect night.
Gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because we didn’t really care for our waiter. He really wasn’t that attentive. The table to our immediate right had a great waiter. And actually he checked on us a few times that night. Even though he wasn’t our waiter.
Overall nice spot! Will be returning here for another date night!

my lover had the catfish tenders and mac it was ok
if ever in jersey area i say stop in for jerked wings and cocktails.
