The guys behind the RC counter are awesome. Very friendly and knowledgeable. If you ever have an unknown issue with an RC go see them, great at trouble shooting and super reasonable prices, and they can order just about anything.

My mom took my kids here for a gift while visiting. Enormous selection of unique toys. it took forever for my kids to pick something out because there was such a huge selection.
Other reviewers have remarked that the employees weren’t nice. One man was ok with us. He wasn’t trying to sell us, but he also wasn’t unfriendly. A younger woman working there was awesome. She was welcoming and helpful.
I told my mom to buy more from this store for the kids! I’ll be back when I visit.

RIP OFF — Don’t waste your money here! My mother recently bought an expensive rc boat here for my birthday along with a battery and charger. She was informed that there are two options for batteries and chargers — NiMh or LiPo. She went with the NiMh because she just spent over $ 200 on the boat and could not afford the more expensive LiPo battery at that time. The boat did not work at the lake so she took it back and was told that it was set up for the LiPo battery and needed to be changed for the NiMh. WHY DIDN’T THEY DO THAT WHEN SHE BOUGHT IT? She ended up paying another $ 150 for the LiPo battery and charger. The person helping her at the time was willing to take back the NiMh battery and charger but the manager heard and would not take it back because it was past the return policy date even though it was never used. That’s the customer service you get here. I found everything she bought on Amazon and could have saved a lot of money and time. IF THE OWNER OR MANAGER OF THIS STORE CARES ABOUT CUSTOMER SATISFACTION AND WANTS TO MAKE THIS RIGHT I STILL HAVE THE UNUSED BATTERY AND CHARGER. I WILL CHANGE MY REVIEW. IF THIS IS STILL POSTED THEN THEY OBVIOUSLY DON’T CARE ABOUT STAYING IN BUSINESS.

Came into this store with my friend looking to buy his son a race car. While deciding on a car I browsed the shop and the iffy owner lady came up to me and said is that a hickey on your neck and touched my neck! She then she gave me a look of disgust and walked over to the front of the store and turned around giving me the meanest look shaking her head. She then walked past me AGAIN and glared at me. I didn’t even have a hickey. Apparently I had a small bruise on my collarbone that I didn’t notice. So humiliated and appalled at how mean this woman was to me. I zipped up my jacket and left the store incredibly offended. Very unprofessional, way overpriced and a very judgmental, assuming, in your face owner. I would never bring my kids here. Unbelievable.

Some cool toys in there nothing mainstream, lots of stuffed animals. They also offer free gift wrapping which is nice.
The thing I did not like was the people who work in the store, I went in with my kids recently looking for a birthday gift and the sales person followed us around the store at one point I turned around and almost bumped into her. It was kind of creepy had to leave. I noticed the guy working was doing the same to a bunch of kids. I understand you don’t want shoplifting in your store but if you are almost touching my kid it’s a problem.

Interesting things and I would go back to shop for my friends who had kids for there b day !

If you’re a fan of a unique selection and not round the mill Toys’ r’us lover, you will be happy in this store. We always find unique gifts for our kids here. Great service as well!

My wife and I ran over to Toy Maniacs for some last minute Christmas shopping. We had a very positive experience. We were not given the «hard sell,» we were not harrassed to purchase. Occassionally staff would offer some very helpful comments — we were new to the purchase of an RC vehicle — but they were repectful of both our budget and the fact we had not made up our mind quickly. (We actually returned the following day to follow through with our purchase).
PS — we found the pricing to be competative with the internet. Paying $ 129 for an RC vehicle where the best price I could find online was twelve dollars less — not enough to make it worth buying online and worrying about a timely delivery — and about 85% of ebay/​amazon retailers sold for exactly the same price.
Since we are out of town holiday visitors, I cannot speak to the local politics stuff, but as a buyer from Orange County, CA, I felt very satisfied (and releived) with my shopping experience. We“ll surely be getting last minute gifts from them next year.

good store with lots of cool items from toys to more adult hobby items. hobby section is small but has a decent selection also they can usually order an item and have it there in 2 days. definatly worth the stop if your in the area

This place is by far one of the most friendly and knowledgable Hobby Shops I’ve ever been in. These guys were a breath of fresh air in comparison to the Hobby Shops I’ve dealt with in the Bay Area. Dennis and Shawn took the time to talk to us at length about the different RC car options and went the extra mile to get my buddies RC Car working again. If you live in Tahoe, or just visiting just as we were, be sure to drop in and give these guys some business.

Lots of toys but not very friendly. Disappointing

What a cool store. I was grabbing some take out Thai from Orchid’s, next door, and I ventured into this toy store to kill some time. They have a fantastic selection of board games, both modern and classic, as well as puzzles, dolls, models, and just about anything that would keep kids (at any age) occupied.
I have to say that I have seen cheaper toy stores, but if you ever think that you need to stock up on games, for those snowed in days, this is a very good bet!

This is quite an interesting place.
I have more insight into this place than any casual visitor to the place.
First, because my younger brother worked there for a number of years and then I myself worked there for 7 months. And before you read further. I’m not writing this review to dish out all that goes on internally about the store, because I harbor no ill will about those who work/​own the place or anything such as that. I actually enjoyed my time there. I spent more time with my drawing pad out, drawing and talking to customers about my artwork than actual work, but when work was needed to be done I did it. Anyway…
This is a very unique place in Tahoe. My name alone, it appears to be just a toy store, but it’s actually more than that. I warn you though. If you go here looking for the latest in action figures or barbies or things like that, then you’re going to the wrong place. Go to the Kmart done the street or off the hill to Carson City.
They have all those toys you used to play with when you were younger. Wooden Toys, Model Cars, trucks, planes and rockets, Boardgames, crafts, etc. They have toys for children of all ages, from pre-​school children to adults. That’s where this place shines. Their hobby section.
In addition to the plastic models, they sell R/​C Cars, R/​C Planes, R/​C Boats as well as all the supplies that you need to maintain them, build them, upgrade them. You name it and they have it and if they don’t, just ask and they’ll order it for you.
The staff is very knowledgeable and can help with with any repairs or upgrades that you need. They know what they are doing, so don’t hesitate in asking them a question if you have one or if you need help.
