Went to KC’s Automotive today and received excellent service. The owner seems to genuinely care about the safety of the family operating this vehicle. Much appreciated his compassion and commitment to good service. Thank you again Karl.

I actually found K C’s automotive on Unilocal and am glad I did. I have a Land Rover and when something goes wrong it is good to know that the person you are taking it to will be fair and honest about what is wrong. I have had foreign cars such as Volvo’s in the past and gone to other places but did not feel as confident about them as I do with Karl.
Thing I really like is that there is no beating around the bush with him. If he feels it is worth fixing he will let you know and make it happen.
He is a very busy individual so getting in can take a day or two if it is not an emergency but anytime I have gone it has always been worth it. I have referred him to friends whenever they need something done. Great mechanic and awesome person too!

Karl saved my vacation with no appointment at all! There was no one else open due to the holiday and I needed a new tire. He repaired the tire so well, 2 weeks later, I’m still driving on it! While the repair took a little bit of time, he kept my friend and I entertained! While this would have put a dent in my pocket on a vacation, Karl was generous enough to offer the repair and labor for free. You don’t find good people like this too often these days. Thanks again Karl!
As far as Robert goes… you read his other reviews and he mentions people giving his lady the «Rape Face» quiet often…

Saturday savior! Thanks Karl for the drive thru style service. He got my family back on the road in 15 minutes with no appointment.

First I’d like to say Karl is a talented mechanic and he also has a wonderful sense of humor! My wife and I decided to take our vehicle to KC Automotive because he was the most reasonable. My wife and my daughter also heard that he was a good mechanic from numerous people in town. Initially I was a little worried because he said he’d have my truck ready in three days and I didn’t hear from him. So I went to the shop thinking the worst but not the case! He took the time to show me and explain that my truck was so rusty he had to soak the bottom of my truck in a solution for a couple of days to loosen the parts. I’ve had the truck since 2000 and never had the clutch replaced. The truck runs beautifully now. Three days ago I took my truck to him again and he figured out in minutes that the fuel sensor was bad. He ordered the part and had it fixed the same day. Thanks Karl!

We were in S. Lake Tahoe for 2 nights and our little commuter car started to overheat (that dread light came on!) …
We searched Unilocal to find a decent place (since we’re out-​of-​towners); after calling several places who told us they were too busy (it was a 4pm on a Wed afternoon)…KC was the 4^th place we called. I was a little tentative because of the reviews, but honestly, so glad we called!
Karl asked us to drive the car right to his shop. He inspected it, had a few laughs with my husband, and then within 10 mins, was calling auto part shops to find a water cap replacement –only $ 10! (I think that’s what it’s called! Lol), he found one at the nearest O’Reily’s. He sent us on our way, and didn’t even charge us! Seriously, top bloke and saved us! I would definitely recommend KC!

My experience at KC’S has always been positive. Karl always makes me feel comfortable if I have to wait around for the repairs to be done by making small talk. He is always talking about his wife and kids. He has been kind enough to show me how to check and maintain all the fluid levels, tire pressure and even some minor repairs so I can save myself some time and money. Whenever I bring my car in and he sees that I am staying on top of the maintenance and even repairing small things myself he always has words of encouragement like «you’re awesome». With all this and his complete honesty and fairness with pricing good luck finding a better mechanic anywhere. I would recommend KC’S to everyone.

Okay, I did not go here, but after the phone call I had with them, I would not go here. I called this place mistaking it for another in town. He asked what kind of car I had and when I said a Saturn, he started laughing and mocking me. Um… K? Sorry that’s all I can afford, God. When I said I was going to the business I mistook it for, he said to «look at the reviews, you’ll get a kick out of them.» Who cares about stupid reviews? This guy was a jerk and really unprofessional and his attitude turned me off to his whole business.

My starter went out on a saturday afternoon. I called Karl, who asked what the problem was. He immediately said to have my truck towed to his shop and he would have the new starter there when i arrived. Karl was awesome, friendly and knew exactly what was wrong. He fixed it in about 30 minutes and I was on my way. Honest and very funny guy, he was great. I wish he was closer, i would take all my vehicles to him.

Took my Mercedes to get my Crankshaft Position Sensor swapped. Carl was 5 stars all around. If you’re looking for great place to get your car fixed. Look no further.

KC is the funniest, friendliest and most honest car wizard I’ve ever met. I took my LR3 there because a brake warning light came on. He looked under one wheel and could tell that the car was low mileage. He checked the brakes and drove the car for 10 minutes after which he told us that the brakes pads were fine (60% plus) and that the other brake systems also seemed good. After spending time with us and giving us a great, honest diagnosis he didn’t charge us a dime. We’ll definitely go back to KC’s when we do need work. I also told my parents and their friends to use them too.

Over the hot weekend prior to the 4^th of July, we got a blown water pump on my 03 LR discovery. The tow truck was originally going to take us to this other shop that was pulled from a Unilocal search. The driver insisted on KC’s because of his knowledge on European cars. Karl was simply amazing. He is extremely courteous, approachable, and professional with the edge of British humor. He was able to fix the car in no time and offered any help on my end since I was commuting 200 miles to get back there. LRs are part of his personal history so his experience really calmed my anxiety and pocket book. He also gave me an overall breakdown of the car-​if anything else was needed in the near future. My experience was so top-​of-​the-​line, I would not mind traveling back up there for a weekend out to enjoy the outdoors and have Karl tune up my old car. Blown rear brakes and rotors on 7÷5÷14. Karl was not only friendly but an excellent mechanic who completed the work quickly and at half the price I would have paid at home in the Bay Area. Great sense of humor. Real pleasure to work with. If I didn’t live so far away, I would take my cars to him for all repair needs.

Karl just did the 100,000 mile service on my husband’s car and he said it drives like new! We appreciate that Karl does a great job and his services are more reasonably priced compared to other service shops. Thanks Karl!

Karl saved the day for my family.
We were up on vacation and staying in Tahoe City. We decided to check out Emerald Bay when trouble struck. Coming down 89 from the vista point the engine overheated and we pulled off in a turnout. Three disappointed kids in the back who thought we were going to the beach. While letting the engine cool down I found KC Automotive on Unilocal.I called and got Karl, on the phone, he had a great attitude and coached us on how to get the car to the shop without calling a tow (or blowing up the engine). He took down our vehicle info so he could start researching possible parts that may be needed.
It was about 230pm when we arrived (he recently changed locations, make sure you go to the correct address). My wife and I assumed we would be spending the night in South Shore while we waited for the repair. As soon as we arrived Karl came out and greeted the family. He is a very whitty, honest and friendly gentleman who still has the Brit in him. Within minutes he diagnosed the problem, a crack in our coolant reservoir. He could of called the parts supplier and procured an after market reservoir and charged us for labor (I am guessing $ 200). Instead he called the supplier and ordered 5 min epoxy. Ten minutes later the epoxy arrived and Karl applied it to the crack. While we waited for the epoxy to arrive and dry after being applied he chatted with the family about beaches for the kids to goto.
I spent twice as much taking the family to breakfast compared to what Karl charged to get us on the road again. I did take a little beating for driving a Dodge Ram rather an MG or Range Rover, but it was all in good nature.
Karl was a hero in the families eyes and we still made it to Baldwin Beach !
It is was refreshing to know that honest and adaptable mechanics still exist. My only issue with KC is that his located in Tahoe, not in the Bat Area where I could use him for all my car needs.
