I stayed here with my BF mid-April 2011. It was selected due to it’s close proximity to Stage 3, a community theater essentially across the street. I booked through Priceline and chose a room with a king-size bed. I was able to check in early. The friendly gal at the front desk had keys ready. I was put in a room in the very historic main building, not the newer annex out back. The room was on the average side, king bed, tidy and pretty clean, but it wouldn’t have passed a Mommie Dearest inspection. There used to be decorative paper borders /runners under the molding that had been removed but not with immense care. The bathroom was clean and well stocked. We encountered no surprises in the room or hotel. They also offered a free Continental Breakfast to guests that appeared way better than average. The noise abatement wasn’t fantastic — we had no room to complain, but you can hear guests down the hall if they’re walking and talking loudly. There also seemed to be little in the way of insulation. Both of these seemed completely normal for a 115-year old building, but I can see how it would annoy people who are expecting to stay at the huge chain hotel types built by freeways in the last few years. All in all, this is the place I’ll be staying when in Sonora from now on!

This property was sold by Days Inn and is now called the Sonora Inn. Stayed here for 2 nights in a renovated king room in the historic building. There are pluses and minuses to this property. We have stayed here a few times in both the historic building and in the«annex». As other reviewers have said, the annex is like a cheap old motel that is across an alley and behind the main building. It will do in a pinch and is reasonably priced, but be aware of what you are getting into. The staff is a little iffy. When we checked in, the front desk clerk wasn’t very friendly and believe it or not told me they don’t take CASH! I thought that was kind of crazy, but not a show stopper. One of the nice things about this property is that it is located right downtown Sonora. You can walk to everything and there are some great restaurants nearby. The restaurant attached to the hotel named Christophers is really an excellent Italian restaurant. The renoved king room was nice, but nothing tremendous. They had a nice new flat screen on the wall, but the picture was not that great. The wireless internet is non-existent in many parts of the property, so if you’re counting on having it there, be aware that depending on what room you’re in, you may or may not have it. The parking lot is fairly small, so we usually try to get parked in the early evening, and then just walk to everything in town for the evening. The police dept. is almost next door, but not any additional noise at all. There are a lot of other choices downtown, of which the Gunn House is our preference. It’s a bit more expensive, but their breakfast is much better.
