I agree with the other reviewers about the blue moon being racist. The bartender«Matty» is not only the worst bartender but such a racist jerk!!! I could not believe the way we were treated when we came in. We left after 10 minutes because you could tell Latinos are not welcomed here! The girl from the hotel we were staying at warned us not to come here and we didn’t listen. Even the locals hate this place! You can tell the people who come here are regulars and are always here. STAYAWAYOFTHISCRAPPYRACISTBAR!!!

I came for a drink after a wedding. I found a wonderful blues night. Lots of friendly people. The bartender Mathew was very kind and helpful, not to mention sexy. He helped me select a bourbon. Even though he was busy. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Racism is Alive and Kicking. My wife and I were denied service by a RACISTMANAGER/BARTENDER Who wears a Cap & a goatee. After ignoring us for a good 10 minutes, i asked his fellow bartender who brought us 4 Stella beers. Before we could even have one beer the RACISTSOB, took all four drinks and tossed them in the trash and asked us to get out while calling us names. What a shame for Sonoma Town, a Tourist destination with people from all walks of life. BLUEMOONSALOON should have a big sign saying WHITESONLY if thats the case. Totally disgusted. TOURISTSANDMINORITIES Stay away from this place. Thank me later.

Tune into Reggae, or Karoke night. This bar is pretty eventful, lots of bands, DJs. Attentive staff.

A cool local bar, at least on the first visit. Will have to go back again. The service was great, had a friendly dive appeal, and prices were reasonable. The crowd was all guys, which pretty much sucked unless your a woman.

This is my first time on Unilocal ever. I’m really not a spiteful person, but I made an account specifically for this place because I’m still in shock over how I was talked to by the manager/owner(not exactly sure which). I live about 30 minutes away, and I’ve heard its a good place to stop by. Never being there before, I called just to see what time they opened. When I called, there was either a bad connection with the phone line or the person on the other end was not speaking clearly, and I couldn’t understand most of the words she said. When I asked her to repeat their hours, she was rude. It just surprised me. After another question, she was even more rude. I finally asked if a manager or owner was available that I could talk to. All of a sudden the«bad phone connection» or mumbled talking was resolved as she loudly told me «Umm, that’s me!» I’m just so disappointed because I have always wanted to try this place out, but I am completely turned off now. Its sad to see a business be ran by someone who isn’t concerned about customer service or the appearance of her business.

Gotta love a locals dive bar where when you walk in the door everyone turns and looks at you. After the initial once over we had great service from the bartender and received great recommendations for local bars and restaurants.

Pretty much a locals only place. Which is sad, because I lived in Sonoma until I was 18 years old, so to be sneered at by people who think they’re «locals» because they moved here from Corte Madera four years ago is super annoying. I don’t mean the bartenders, mind you: they’re always really friendly. And when I come here with my friends who still live in Sonoma, I have a riproarin’ great time. But when I wander in on my own, I guess everyone can smell an essence of SoCal in the air, because backs literally turn.

Hidden gem in Sonoma! We went on Sunday night for jazz night… I have never seen anything like it! People just brought their instruments and rotated in to play with other people. We probably saw at least 20 different musicians and they were all fantastic! This seemed to be a place for mostly Locals, so it was fun to enjoy the atmosphere. Everyone was so nice, drinks were cheap, and the music was great… can’t get much better than that. We got there early(9:30 or so) which allowed us to grab a table… the place really filled up around 10:30−11.

I love dive bars. Especially when I’m out of town. It gives you a good feel of the locals. Well, my girls and I were in Sonoma & thought to come to this bar despite some people giving us the stick eye when we told them that we were coming here. I love nice things, but I also love places with character. Bottom line the bartender was nice, but the locals were rude and uninviting. I suppose it’s how they must like their bar… local & non-touristy.

Another Sonoma version of Cheers. Cheap drinks, stiff cocktails, and full of locals. My crew andI headed here on the recommendation of a local for their blue grass Sunday nights. It was our last day in town, and we HAD to go slap some knee. While they were missing a banjo, they had tons of character and even got me — who doesn’t dance unless I’m 10 beers deep — up out of my seat only after two. There wasn’t a stage, just a crammed space in front of the bar where the bad had a little bit of space to set up. Talk about an intimate concert. Bartenders were friendly, the bathrooms were easy to find, and the back patio provided a spot to get a bit of fresh air — or in this particular case, a smoker’s paradise since you can’t light up inside. Sadly there was no smoke-free place for us to go outside, unless it was out in front of the bar. Do yourself a favor and just go for the bluegrass(or altered version of) on Sundays. I think you’ll dig it if you know what to expect.

I’m on Unilocal only to review this place. I’m not a spiteful person but this place is wrong. I went one evening with some work friends and after providing an out-of-state license(I am from Texas), an out-of-state ID card AND a passport, which I just happened to be carrying on me, I was refused service and told to leave. We hadn’t been drinking and were carrying ourselves in a normal fashion. I was completely baffled and embarrassed… my friends were livid and have decided not to return. I now live in Sonoma and love dive bars. There is another review here commenting on discrimination the reviewer’s partner received. I am Hispanic and hope this is not Blue Moon Saloon’s normal practice. Too bad because I heard their blues night is all right…

Used to be our favorite dive bar — but recently had a bad experience that will cause us to NEVER go back there again. I guess they had hired a new daytime bartender — who after chekcing our ID — refused my boyfriend and said his ID was fake and he was not of age. Which could not be any further from the truth. She was rude about the whole thing and basically said she wouldnt serve him becaue of his race and that we needed to go! well we did go and will NEVER go back!

As good as it gets for Sonoma, CA. Great people behind the bar! People can love it or hate it So if you’re ever eager to try it, i say do so.

After an incredibly long sales conference and an even longer dinner with unlimited glasses of red wine, the bus dropped us off at the Blue Moon Saloon. There was one bartender and 45 of us. Despite this, she KILLED it. And we’re talking serious orders like shots, martini’s, numerous mixed drinks. And they were cheap! Basically if you’re ever at a sales conference in Sonoma and need to bond with your coworkers over booze, this is the place to be.

If you’re looking to play pool, spread out, enjoy yourself listen to the best juke box in town, come to the Blue Moon. If you want to hang out with lame fake people and tourists go downtown or something. The crowd is seedy, but this is, afterall, a dive. That’s why you go there. They’ve just revamped the outside area making it the only«dedicated» bar in Sonoma with an outdoor seating area where you can enjoy your drink while smoking a cigarette or talking shit about other patrons(my preferred, I don’t smoke cigarettes). This is the only place I take my out of town visitors when we go drinking because it’s the only bar in town where you can really have fun and have space instead of feeling like a cattle. This is also the only place I go out with my girlfriends — seedy or not, the crowd is safe and entertaining if nothing else! Date night? Sure, why not! Boyfriend loves it here, too!
