I unfortunately did not have a good experience at this place. It took a lot of time for us to get seating and our waitress to come by, even though it was not very busy on a saturday night. When ordering an Inca Cola, the can was very frozen, though it was replaced by a warm one. I ordered the lomo saltado. It consisted of almost no steak what so ever, maybe an ounce or two of chewy beef. The rest of the plate had almost no seasoning and had very little flavor. Totally not worth the $ 20 I had to pay for under seasoned rice and french fries. The only positive note was the live music on saturday, but the dining experience was not good at all, definitely not worth the money.

Ceviche! Ceviche! Ceviche! Ceviche! Ceviche! Excellent food. Excellent service. Ceviche! Ceviche! Ceviche! Ceviche! Ceviche! I have to learn how to make ceviche or else I am going to go broke coming here to get it. Oh lord, please help me with some self control! Amen. And ceviche. Ceviche!

We enjoyed the appetizer sampler with yucca, beef hearts and«chicharron». The main courses were well prepared and the service was attentive. I found the place rather empty for a Friday night at 7 but started filling up when the live music started(a nice plus: Andean music is the perfect backdrop for dinner). The only thing that I did not like was the practice of including an 18% service charge in the bill(we were a party of four). I like to be the one who determines the amount of the tip: works well for the waiter and for me. Later, the actual check was removed, and the card receipt happily suggests tip amounts which can result in you paying 36−40% over the actual price if you don’t pay attention. Remove that initial service charge and we’ll be back for more pisco!

Deep fried seafood was entirely too crunchy. To the point that your jaw is tired of chewing. I am a ceviche fanatic. This is the first time I did not like the cod fish ceviche, maybe because I’m used to eating slivers of raw seafood not huge chunks that are scary to look at. My husband got some beef dish served on a bed of fries with a side of rice. He said the rice was good and the beef was extra dry & over cooked. Had I known that this was not my kinda place I would just pick up 2 orders of beef empanada which was the only thing we ordered that eatable.(Plain but eatable) I hate to give a bad review but maybe it is not my type of food. I will not be back. I can say that the service was great. Staff was very friendly. I spent $ 70 on lunch today and feel like I paid $ 70 for a mediocre empanada.

If you are familiar with Peruvian food and looking for it in Mass. Go here. Flawless with the arroz chaufa and lomo saltado. The huancaina sauce is awesome(yellow sauce served in the beginning). I haven’t tried the ceviche yet but I imagine it’s good. The chicha is good too. Highly recommend!

My fiancé and I got two dishes about a month ago. Very fresh flavors and good mixed drinks. The balance of main course to side was a little off, but overall we were satisfied with everything.

My friends and I decided to branch out when going to Union Square last night, and I’m beyond glad that we did. I recently returned from a trip to Peru, and was excited to see if I could find authentic Peruvian in Boston. We entered the restaurant, and were immediately seated by a kind hostess in a traditional Peruvian dress. We were seated in a cozy room to the left of the entrance, which had a small case of knick-knacks from Peru. Between us, my friends and I ordered the Amor en llamas(a delicious cocktail) and Cusquena. Both were delicious. We were also served roasted corn kernels to nibble on. For my main course, I ordered the Lomo Saltado(sirloin strips, french fries, onion, tomatoes, and rice). It was AMAZING. Easily matched authentic Peruvian food that I’d had in the country itself. It was perfectly salted and seasoned, and I wolfed my food down. I would definitely return and branch out to other dishes. My friends all loved their food, too. I’m also giving this restaurant five stars for the service. While the waitress took our drink order, my friends and I had goaded on our friend(whose birthday was the next day) to order a cocktail in honor of her birthday. The waitress overheard this, and had the restaurant sing happy birthday to our friend, and brought out a bread pudding for the table. I am sad to say that I didn’t get her name, but I will definitely return and request her if I see her!

I came for a friend’s birthday and was not impressed, mainly due to the poor service and mediocre offerings. Upon seating, we were served a plate of corn kernels along with a spicy cream sauce, which was a creative departure from the standard bread or chips filler. We started off with the Papa a la Huancaina which consisted of thickly cut potato slices covered with a creamy spicy sauce. This was tasty but nothing spectacular. I ordered the Aguadito de Pollo which was akin to a Peruvian version of chicken soup. Unfortunately it came with more peas and carrots vs. chicken; the broth had a light and nice flavor though. My husband ordered the Camarones al pisco, which sadly only came with 6 shrimp for ~$ 18. Definitely not worth the price as these seemed like standard size shrimp instead of the«jumbo» as advertised. Overall, the food itself(portion size, quality) was just average, but the service was sorely lacking. The rest of the party arrived a little later than everyone else, and it took awhile for the waiter to acknowledge this. In addition, I constantly had to flag down any waiter I saw throughout the night to refill my water. Yes; I drink a lot of water, but at this price point, I expect better service. One bright spot of the night was the live band, but I wouldn’t come back just for that. Unfortunately I will not return anytime soon due to expensive prices, average food, and poor service.

As 2 Peruvians, my dad and I were super disappointed with this place in both service and food. The food was mediocre and the service was worse. The waitress was uninterested and even though the restaurant was empty, she acted like she was doing us a favor by tending to our table. She was more interested in conversing with her friends sitting at the bar. She never offered us anything to drink until I asked. Then she took about 15 minutes to actually bring it over, while conversing with her friends at the bar. Horrible experience, I would not recommend to anyone. We will not be back.

Went here for Mothers Day lunch and it was mediocre. I was soooo disappointed as I always rave about this place. My friend and I shared a Mixed Civeche and the Poor Man’s Steak, both of which are mediocre. The civiche wasn’t as acidic as I would’ve like, lacked flavor and depth. The fish was also not fresh and their pieces weren’t good quality. After having Civeche from Los Andes in Providence, I was incredibly disappointed. The entrée of steak and rice was okay. It was bland and I asked for sauce but the waitress forgot so she didn’t realize until I was done with my meal. The plantains were too soft and not crispy on the edges, the steak was overcooked, and the dish, although pretty to look at, was fair. I think it was overpriced considering the quality of the food.

A number of friends took my fiancé and I out to dinner here last night to celebrate our engagement. I had already been here a few times and thought it was a good option because the food was always decent(nothing special), and moreover, there was always a lot of seating available for a big group like ours. The waitress proceeded to take our orders and we waited. and waited… for our food to come out. I have no idea why it took so long considering that 6 out of the 8 of us ordered the lomo saltado and the restaurant was nearly empty. But finally the dishes came out. Now we get to the horror story. My fiancé’s friend’s dish gets placed in front of her and it’s a steak… when she had ordered a pork chop. She says to the waitress«oh. i actually ordered a pork chop.» The waitress replies: «No you didn’t, you got the steak.» My fiancé’s friend says it’s alright and that she would eat the steak, but my fiancé jumps in and says«no, she actually ordered the pork chop.» The waitress walks away, grabs a menu, opens it up to the page with the steak, and says, «You ordered that. You’re going to eat it», while pointing to the menu in front of her face. She then proceeds to walk away. If it wasn’t for this happening, Machu Picchu would probably get 3 stars. Its food is overpriced for its mediocrity, and portion control varies wildly. For example, my lomo saltado had 3 french fries and maybe 7 small strips of beef, whereas my friend’s had at least double. The restaurant obviously doesn’t care about its business, so don’t support it by going there.

Easily one of the worst meals in a long time ! Why so many great reviews ? Dry rice with 2 mussels in an entrée? Medium rare steak actually came well done, looked like it was from McDonald’s if they served steak. The corn beer was horrific. The house«salad» is actually what would normally be burger toppings, except with lime juice as dressing. To drop $ 75 on this was the most nauseating part !!!

Headed over to this homely restaurant close to Union Square on Somerville Ave for dinner this weekend. Extensive menu? Yes! Pages and Pages(Small white font on a green background? No no!) Décor? Cutesy! Drinks? A modest collection of Peruvian wines caught my eye. Tried the Malbec. Okayish! Food? Generous portions that taste mediocre. Service? Meh.

A tasty flavor adventure with well-prepared meats. The sides were nothing to really write home about, but the chorizo and pork chop were tender, smokey, well-seasoned, and provided in reasonable amounts. The rice was a bit salty, fries were pretty much average or below, and the salad was sub-par. The drink I had, the name of which I forget but was the traditional Peruvian one, was tasty and worth paying extra for. The atmosphere was nice enough — a store front restaurant with comfortable chairs and a knowledgeable staff. My only major complaint was less-attentive than expected service, but it wasn’t lacking enough to merit avoiding this nice little place.

More than the food I ate or the service I received or, frankly, anything about the restaurant itself, my enduring memory of Machu Picchu will always be American Dream played on a pan flute. Really, that’s a pity. I’ll admit I’ve never had Peruvian food before, so I have very little to compare to. I had ordered an Aji de Gallina, which was flavorful, but the chicken was a bit dry. The Chicha Morada was fantastic though, and I will be seeking it out in the future. That being said, this location seems entirely authentic. I’d like to return some time and try out some other dishes; I get the impression that I am unimpressed because I did a poor job ordering and not because the restaurant is bad.

While in Boston last month I decided to give Bean town’s Peruvian food a try! As I’ve stated in previous reviews I’m a huge fan of South American food. One of my favorite things about this restaurant was their Maracuya flavored Pisco Sour. I had never tried anything like it and it definitely gave me the tiny buzz I needed to survive the coldness after leaving this nice restaurant. I went with one other friend and we ordered a Tallarines Verdes and Aji De Gallina. The portions are not huge, but they are almost enough food. You should be good to go if you order a dessert. We ordered a portion of Alfajores. Alfajores seemed to be prepared so different from restaurant to restaurant. The Alfajores here were small, soft, and delicious though! The manjarblanco they used is a tiny bit too bitter however. Next time I’m back in Boston I’d definitely like to try some other dishes of their. I saw another table close by get lomo saltado and ceviche! Smelled sooooo good.

I used to drive by here a lot. I was absolutely convinced it was another knockoff Mexican place. I couldn’t believe it when I went to dinner with my family(my dad is from Peru originally) and we had an authentic Peruvian meal. The waitstaff was super attentive and the food was outstanding, and so reasonably priced. The ceviche has gone up in price since the first time I visited this restaurant, but I think the portion size has also increased. You will be missing out if you don’t try the ceviche at least once on a visit here. However I wouldn’t recommend the ceviche with the cream sauce. It was just wrong. As ridiculous of a dish as it is, the bisteck a lo pobre(poor man’s steak) is one of my favorite dishes. Just meat and carbs, it’s delicious. I have tried many different things here and I have never been disappointed by my meal, or by trying anyone else’s. The only thing that wasn’t a homerun was the ceviche with the cream sauce(ceviche en crema de Rocoto). BUT they have so many different kinds of ceviche, it’s worth trying them all. Ceviche Mixto is probably a good start. Leche de la Tigre is good for those who like the spice. Oh, and the last thing I want to mention: the last time I was in Peru I had these gigantic pieces of corn that you eat with cheese. It was fantastic. They actually have this on the menu! Choclo Peruano. I have never found this corn anywhere. I HIGHLY recommend trying it. It’s so frigging satisfying and just terrific. Start with that as an appetizer, get some ceviche for a main course and maybe split a bisteck a lo pobre with your friends. Maybe wash it down with an Inca Kola.

Taste of Peru! My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place as we tried to make it to Union Square donuts before the shop closed. We started off the meal with beef hearts, which were marinated very well and tasted amazing with the potato that accompanied it. I got the beef with cilantro sauce served with rice and beans. I couldn’t stop eating it. It was delicious although a bit salty. Will definitely be stopping by again for dinner.

This place is good. Good, but not exceptional. A few stand out dishes include Chupe de camarones, chicken causa, and tallarine verde. Their pisco sour is strong, well blended and delicious(they have a parade of Vitamixes at the bar). Being spoiled by Peruvian food in Eastie, I think their huacaina sauce could use less crackers and more aji, but that’s just me. A few other dishes have imbalanced spice content are slightly chalky as well, but at the end of the day it is a decent spot, especially if you don’t want to go to Eastie. I prefer their sister restaurant Macchu Chicken immensely.

Had the Pollo Lomo Saltado… it wasn’t very memorable or flavorful. Same goes for the beef version(Lomo Saltado). I wouldn’t recommend those. Took nearly a ½ hr to get our entreés. Camarones el Pisco: Not too memorable. Ceviche de Pescado: Very tasty and refreshing. Quite well marinated. Anticuchos Peruanos(beef heart): flavorful, these were good. I remember the first time I ate here, I forgot an item, and they held it until I came to pick it up the next day. Good service, that.

One of the best ceviches I’ve ever had. Came here with my boyfriend for a late lunch to try their ceviche at the recommendation of one of our Peruvian friends. The fish was cut into large chunks(something I’ve never seen before) and tasted fresh — no fishy taste whatsoever. It also comes as a huge portion — great for sharing between 3 – 4 people. I also highly recommend their tamal criollo and the lomo saltado. I was apprehensive about the lomo saltado due to other reviews, but it was delicious! So much flavor and seasoned perfectly. Service was excellent(but there were only a few tables since we came around 3PM). Overall, it was a highly enjoyable experience. Will be back.

This was some beautiful and tasty food. I will try to find the gorgeous picture of my food soon, but it was great. The waiters were attentive, but we were shoved into a tiny corner by the cold window. The food was a little pricier than I would have liked… and the corn beer was neither corny nor beery. That being said, I’d go there for the wide selection of meat and veggie options. The Pollo Chan Chan(rolled chicken around shrimp, cheese, and spinach) with spinach mashed potatoes was beautiful and tasty. The perfect size. I don’t know if I’d go back, but there were some other pretty fantastic looking items on the menu, so maybe!

The décor and band were great, it’s not just another restaurant trying to do cultural food, it’s really Peruvian. I had the pisco-rita which was great and really tasted like both drinks mixed together. We started with the special ceviche which was made with fish, and no shellfish, which was my impression of what ceviche is normally. It was delicious and had a great orange colored sauce that still tasted like lime. I then had the pasta with basil and spinach sauce which was delicious. My friend said she had it before at another place and it was creamy which I didn’t miss. That makes the pasta healthy, right? The owner/manager came over and talked to us to be sure that everything was perfect, which it was. He guessed everything that we were eating and drinking as well, so I know he is there often.
