Great for lunch. Food is always varied ANDTHEYPREPARETHRNAANFRESH which is different than other buffets I’ve gone to. I’ve also gotten their palace dinners(take-out) — and those were delicious, too. Lots of food and pretty reasonable price. Also, pretty quiet for lunch so I can get work done while dining.

We have been a big fan of India Palace, but since our last visit we will never come back. Perhaps the management has changed, but the food quality was sub-par. Few specifics — The mango lassi was watered down The paneer tikka(dry) was a few tiny pieces, half way coated with spice The naan felt like rubber The beer that we got was also not cold. And the biggest disappointment was paneer tikka masala(which used to be top notch since about two years ago) — it was bland and it just felt that they mixed tomato gravy with some cream and some water. The only saving grace was veggie samosa which was good! Overall it’s a shame that the quality has gone so bad. I actually had got a few guests with me sayng high praises and was embarassed. I remember the days about 3 – 4 years ago when I used to frequent this place about twice a week and used to home order and savor the paneer tikka masala and malai kofta. Not going there again and will not recommend to anyone.

I get delivery from here all the time and it’s great — India Palace is probably the most affordable Indian place I’ve encountered in the area so far, deliveries are always speedy, and the lamb dishes I usually get have never failed to disappoint.

The food over here is pretty good. I have ordered take out and have found it quite pleasing. The food isn’t extra ordinary but does not disappoint as well. The only problem I had with them is during a lunch buffet. When I went for the buffet, their food was cold and the pakoras were very hard. There was no rice outside and nobody filled it up even though the restaurant was practically empty. I asked for some more rice and they brought out just a little bit. May be it was almost their closing time and I was late, but I expected a little more considering their food from the menu is quite good.

I went in to order to go so I can get back to work. The food came fast but it’s such a small portion. The cashier lady is rude. When I got my food under 10 minutes. I found out that my rice is COLD. There is no utensil!!! The rice is too hard that they need more water to boil. I felt that I need to stop eating y food and bring it home to recook it. I will never go back!

High quality Indian food! The garlic nan is out of this world. chicken tikka masala & saag paneer were fantastic! Our waitress lacked personality and was a bit rude but other than that we had a great dinner with friends and will absolutely return.

You can find India Palace at 23 Union Sq, Somerville, MA2143 — technically this is Somerville but the locals know is as Union Square. There’s very limited parking from what I could tell — there might be some additional in the back alleys. Union Square is made up of several shops that lie on either side of a median with some additional shops that divide off in a large«V» shape as roads converge to form the apex. This was our first day in Boston for business and we walked from the nearby Holiday Inn to Union Square — it was a bit less than a mile walk and what appeared to be safe streets — it was a bit trafficy so if you’re not comfortable with cars zooming feet away an Über call might be useful. There’s also a hotel shuttle but it less than dependable(as I’ll explain later). We walked up-and-down Union Square and got the lay-of-the-land, passing some interesting shops(including both an independent record store and a comic book shop) and finally settled on India Palace. It’s been something of a tradition for Sid(who’s Indian) and I to try to the local Indian Cuisine wherever we end up, so this became our selection for Boston. The exterior of India Palace is a bit nondescript with a glass front façade in the middle of a row of buildings. The interior is a bit plain, but welcoming and very functional. There’s a counter at the back for what I presume take out orders. We entered and found a couple of occupied tables and very kind owners who asked for our drink order — I selected a Flying Horse Royal and Sid ordered the Taj Mahal — these were the large liter bottles so popular as exports from India and United Brewing — just don’t try to find these while visiting India as they seem to be export only. We were given some Masala, a bit of onion chutneys and a basket of very crisp peppery papadums. We looked over the menu and asked questions and settled on a pair of veggie samosas, two dishes and a couple of Naans: Veggie Samosas — we both thought these were mediocre and could have used a bit more spice(not heat, but rather intensity). Chicken Vindaloo — this is one of my favorite dishes and I was not disappointed in what was provided at India Palace although it was different from what I’ve found previously. This dish is usually quite hot(and I indicated I wanted it «India Hot») and this was hot, but not as hot as I’ve had. The curry was also a bit«chunky» and not quite a fluid as I’ve had in the past — that being said, it was still quite good with the piquant acidic flavor and heat I love. Tikka Masala Paneer — this was Sid’s choice, a rich, creamy tomato curry with firm cheese paneer and it ended up being both our favorites. This was really exceptional, one of the best examples of this dish I’ve ever had with extremely rich flavors and a delectable tomato base that was more like tomato bisque — fantastic! We ordered a Garlic Naan — good but I think it could have used a bit more garlic(it was more stuffed than brushed-on) and something not on the menu, a «Bullet» Naan(one baked with green chilies) — the latter was very good but the chilies were a bit disappointing — they’re usually much hotter). Basmati Rice — well cooked and not over-done as you sometimes find. In all we were very satisfied with the food and service. The owners were very kind and did a good job making recommendations and answering questions — I hope this small restaurant does well and we plan to return during a future visit. (slightly longer review on my food blog)

Sadly, this restaurant has done WAY downhill in the last few years. We had mixed tandoori(dry, tasteless, and clearly prepared a few days before) and saag chole(tasteless). The service, just as listed in many other reviews, was minimal. With so many other good Indian restaurants, this place does not warrant a visit.

I’ve eaten here so often, and each time, I plan to leave a glowing review. So this is more like a 5 star rating multiplied by 5. I’d just moved to Somerville, and discovered India Palace conveniently close by. I didn’t know it at the time, but I was about to eat the best Saag Paneer of my life, and determine my Sunday night dinner destination for the next year. The food– amazing. As a vegetarian I’m always a fan of Paneer dishes done well– theirs are fantastic! What’s more, the portions are big enough for leftovers the next day. Plus, service is awesome, and the price is great. Go. Eat. Repeat.

All I ever get is the Chicken Tikka Masala and it’s always great. Plus, they give me a variety of sauces to go with my naan when I order it. Definitely would recommend it!

A fantastic Indian restaurant that serves good sized portions at a very cheap price. I always eat in as it’s a 2 minute walk from my house. They also do an amazingly cheap($ 8) all-you-can-eat buffet for lunch, which is on every day of the week except Sunday. Never visiting India, I can not comment on how authentic this eatery is, however all meals I’ve eaten there have been excellent for the price. Great paneer. Haven’t yet tried the tikka masala. The meals are a touch on the sweet side. Is a solid ‘go-to’, when I don’t feel like cooking.

Pretty standard curry house. Naan is above average.

Ordered lunch delivery today and was sadly disappointed. Got the aloo gobi and malai kofta lunch specials with a side of raita. Delivery was prompt. The malai kofta was ok — the sauce was pretty good, though a little too sweet for malai kofta in my opinion, but the kofte themselves were still hard and slightly frozen. Clearly not even close to fresh. The aloo gobi was disappointing all around — slightly mushy cauliflower, potatoes in a super oily sauce. The raita too was disappointing — it had barely any cucumber in it! Even the onion side it came with was clearly old — the onions were soft and soggy.

An absolutely terrific Indian restaurant. I know their phone number by heart, unlike any of my friends’. As a vegetarian, I’ve spent years drooling(discreetly) around other people’s chicken tikka masala; when I discovered that India Palace does a veg version of this classic dish, with paneer instead of chicken, I resigned myself to spending the next week in a giddy, immobile paneer coma. Everything I’ve had is good here. Even broccoli-heavy dishes like the navratan korma avoid the sin of mushy vegetable, leaving every bite tender and perfectly imbued with sweet, spicy sauce. From time to time I’ve come across an underdone pakora, and the spice level of the food varies erratically from week to week(«medium» sometimes means fiery, sometimes not), but I have no complaints — this is one of the best Indian restaurants in the area. Fast delivery, consistent quality, good food. Eat it.

Oh man, it’s so time for an update. This is easily one of my favorite restaurants around. Excellent service, great food, low prices. What more could I want? I gotta stress the $ 8 lunch buffet. It’s 6 days a week and definitely the best deal everrrr. You can even do takeout from the buffet if you walk in. I don’t have a lot to add from my previous review besides the extra star – this is consistently my favorite Indian restaurant in the area and one of my favorite all-around spots. Enjoy!

Good prices, really great rice and samosas. I ordered the chicken makhni and it tasted overwhelmingly american, which was a little bit hard to move past after tasting so much great, authentic indian dishes before. They do a great job with the seasonings on their other items however, and the chicken they serve seems to be of high quality and has a great taste. Awesome place for takeout or delivery.

I was motivated to try this place based on the good reviews, but I’m not seeing what the fuss is about. Reviewer Tara M is most definitely not a fake account writing for a competitor: The Chicken Tikka Masala I just begrudgingly ate DID taste like canned tomato soup. Unbearably sweet and artificial tasting. Worse, there was no kick to it at all, even though I requested medium spices. They also gave me the wrong naan. I was excited to try the paneer stuffed naan, but they gave me one with nuts and coconut instead, which is not something I ever would have chosen. The pakoras I ordered were greasy and unremarkable. I’ve had a terrible hankering for Indian food all week, but sadly, I didn’t enjoy my meal at all. I give them props for delivering quickly and for the polite service, but I won’t be ordering again.

First time out eating Indian food. I had no idea how good it is. I have been missing out all these years. SERIOUSLY! ! We went here for dinner. We had a side of aloo nahn(potato and pea nahn). I had saab chicken and he had tikka masala lamb. All of it was excellent! I was really excited to have leftovers. The only thing I would change for next time is that I order my food mild, I really could have gone medium for a bit of heat. The mild is really no heat at all. I also am excited to come back to try their lunch buffet so I can sample other option that I may be a bit skittish to order. I will be eating here again.

Ordered delivery and it took longer than I wanted it to, but everything was nice and hot when it came to me and I don’t mean that to refer to the temperature only. I’ve ordered from here twice now and will likely be a return customer. Their curries are delicious and if you ask for them spicy, they come spicy. The naan is great as naan always is, and the portions are more than generous. The gulab jamun(dessert) I ordered with my meal were the worst I’ve ever had, but maybe people don’t order them very often and they were old or something. So I wouldn’t order those again but it won’t prevent me from ordering more curry!
