Last year was such a better experience and it’s sad to see such a new event go down in quality, when there should only be room to grow. The participants this year w’ere some of my least favorites from the previous year, though i’m glad to see that many of the amateur bakers outshined the larger venues a great deal. The lack of different flavor choices between the vendors was surprising, it seemed like everyone had the same menu save for on of two varying flavors. I’m all for red Velvet cupcakes, but enough was enough when that’s all a vendor had, and again no one seems to know how to make one with buttermilk or moist. The event is cheap enough and the money goes to charity, which is why id even consider returning next year. I hope if they do this again they get more organized.

So this year, I was excited to attend, and decided to try the VIP experience. For $ 25(rather than the door price of $ 5), this offered a chance to skip the line and get exclusive goodies. Well, besides skipping the line, the goodies were a waste of time and money. I didn’t even get any of them! I went to retrieve them, and they had given them away to everyone, not exclusive to VIP! What was the point of buying a ticket? I still would have gotten in at a decent time, and probably could have gotten the same«goodies» as the VIP since, according to one of the two vendors that were handing out said«goodies» «we just gave them out to whomever came to the booth». First of all, when I went to the staff and the sponsoring vendors, no one knew what I was talking about when I asked about the VIP gifts. 15 minutes later, when I finally got an answer, I find out that they’d given everything away. What was the point? Why not set things aside specifically for VIP? There is a limited number of people on the VIP list, why not make bags for them and set that aside(which is what I thought they were going to do anyway)? This is basically what was inferred from the beginning. Other than that, this year was not that great. There were fewer participating vendors, and in general, the experience was lackluster. This year, there was more to be desired, and I was definitely underwhelmed. I’m sure the bakers worked hard, and I commend them, but I was simply underwhelmed. I think this year left a bad taste in my mouth(pun intended), and I’m reluctant to think about returning next year, which is a shame.

This was a great event for $ 5 that went to charity. My b and I got there around 6:20 and the line was already pretty long, out the door and down the sidewalk. We got in earlier than expected, a little before 7, and they only let people in as others came out. There were probably 20+ vendors amateur and professional. I will post pictures later. A majority of the cupcakes were bite size so they were perfect to try! The bar sold wine, beer, milk and water. I sampled plenty of red velvet, chocolate, vanilla, peanut butter confections. The most unique included the cereal aisle, the chocolate affair, strawberry margarita, a sweet and sour lemon vanilla cake, and soda pop. If you’re a cupcake fanatic this is a great event to go to to get some new ideas, sample some businesses, and perhaps even hire if you’re looking for someone to cater. Nevertheless, get there early, try all the cupcakes you want, but always remember, do not take any out so others can have some too!

This is a wonderful event. While this event is technically«free,» there is a suggested $ 5 donation, and I didn’t attempt to get an entry ticket without paying for it, particularly since proceeds go to The Loving Spoonful(so don’t be tacky and try and get in for free, basically). But there are so many fantastic cupcakes, amazing bakeries, interesting varieties and um… people. Lots, and lots of people, acting like A) they’ve never seen a cupcake before and B) they will never see another. So be prepared to throw some ‘bows to get at the cupcakes! I was amazed to see the line out-the-door when I arrived on-time, and when I left a couple hours later, it was STILL out-the-door, despite the pouring rain. A few enterprising cupcake fans picked up empty boxes from the bakers and went around collecting cupcakes to take home, and were prompty stopped at the exit by the cupcake nazis enforcing the«one take-home cupcake per person» policy they’d just invented. To be fair, as I said, the line remained out-the-door up until I left the event, so if everyone took home as many ‘cakes as they wanted, those poor folks wouldn’t have gotten any. I think, at some point, a staff-person brought some ‘cakes out to the people waiting in line, which was very sweet. Good cause, good food, lots of fun. Win-win!

YESSSSSSS! Free cupcakes. What more could you want? This is amazing event that showcases local bakeries and amateur bakers. Different bakeries such as Mix, Sweet, Party Favors and even Whole Foods were displaying their cupcakes and letting us cupcakes lovers sample them for free. There were some amazing cupcakes from the simple ones of chocolate cupcakes with vanilla frosting, red velvet to a bit more complex ones like mojito cupcakes, guinness cupcakes and my personal fav the cookies and cream cupcakes. Soo many cupcakes and not enough room in my tummy to eat them all! If you’re a cupcake lover like me, this event is a godsend! I’ll be back next year!

Cupcake Camp was one of the most phenomenal things I have experienced! Not only is it FREE, but it showcases the cupcakes of both professional bakers and also amateur bakers(read: ME!). I watched demonstrations by King Arthur Flour… I ate cupcakes from Sweet, Fratelli’s, Fiore’s, Mix, Babycakes, Sadie’s and even Whole Foods! Aside from my bomb Cookies’n’Cream cupcakes… I found Anthony Tata(eleven years old… owns his own business… not joking) of Tata Treat’s to have a very delectable Boston Cream Cupcake… and tasted an incredible peanut butter banana cupcake with Nutella frosting(they had me at Nutella…) What an incredible event… and I will most definitely be there again next year!
