We decided to check this place out for Breakfast and I’m glad we did. The service was great, the food was delicious and the waffle was crispy. This place is so much better than Paula’s pancake house.

If you’re in the Solvang area and want a good quick breakfast, then try this place out. It’s reasonably priced and the food is pretty good. I had the Crepes Benedict and it was good, the hollandaise sauce was bomb, so was the eggs and ham. Solid pick for breakfast.

The Belgian Café is located in Solvang in downtown just off the 246 and a short drive from the 101. This Café has a small and comfortable location. Seating options include exterior and interior table dining and bar seats. Come anytime during the week and you wont wait be seat. On the weekends definitely come by early especially during the summer or holidays. The Belgian Café has Waffles, Crepes, Ice Cream, Beer on Tap, Eggs, Omelets and French Toasts along with various side dishes. Arrive early to take advantage of their Early Bird Special. I usually come by and eat here whenever I am in town. I have tried the World’s Fair Sensation with Banana and Stars & Stripes Waffles. The Waffle is Belgian style in a rectangular shaped. The Waffles are cooked consistently very well with a nice crisp outer shell and soft interior. The Bananas and Strawberry fruits were fresh. The blue berries were not fresh and served in a syrup. I usually do not like blue berries served this way and prefer them fresh but they were actually pretty good and not overly sweet. If you are in Solvang and looking for a good breakfast then definitely come by to try The Belgian Café. You will enjoy quality food. The prices and serving sizes are pretty good.

fresh fruit is super fresh. coffee is yummy. this was one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had. the waffle was crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. butter was delish and the maple syrup was good. the bacon was amazing and how bacon should be. eggs Benedict was delish. eggs were perfectly runny. English muffin could have been a little more firm but that’s personal preference. generous portion. ham was very good. hollandaise sauce was perfect amount. atmosphere was lovely. staff attentive but not overbearing. family friendly. charming decorations. this is the place I would go if I wanted to have the best breakfast ever. I would come back to solvang just for this place.

Straight out of Belgium… aka(the hood)…for all of you waffle lovers. Egg dishes were terrific. Recommended for Foodies everywhere.

Dated, old, ran down and faded out. If it wasn’t for the blue umbrellas this place would look horrible. Instead it looks just almost horrible. But the waffles looked great so I wanted to give it a try. I got the Connoisseurs Waffle and some fried eggs with hash browns. The waffle was really good, but that’s probably the only good thing in this place. I couldn’t get over the fact that the eggs order was messed up and that burnt coffee taste.

I tried this place a few years ago and was excited to go back. Unfortunately it was just fair this time. We ordered some simple items on the menu and it still took 25 minutes to come out. I asked if it came with fruit, she said no so I ordered blueberries for $ 3 extra. Turns out it did come with fruit and I wasted $ 3 on a little cup of blueberry pie filling. If you’re going to charge that much for berries they should be actual berries, or just be honest about it on the menu.

This was my first time eating here at the Belgium Café. I usually eat breakfast at Paula’s Pancake House. I will never cheat on Paula’s again. I ordered the Traveler’s Special. It comes with waffles, sausage or bacon and a fruit cup. I don’t eat pork so I asked for turkey sausage. When the food came, it was warm, not hot and the waffles were over cooked. Scorched and dry. I only could stomach half of the waffle and one of two sausages before I realized that it tasted like pork. I don’t ever complain about meals, but this time I was so disappointed with the breakfast that I let the waitress know. She spoke to her manager and they did not charge me. That was their saving grace, but I would rather have enjoyed my meal.

A bored collection of flavorless, frozen-food aisle tourist fodder. I’m not normally a Unilocal-ranter, and I had an uneventful brunch here so I’m not angry or anything, so let me just say it has fine service, good location, and public school cafeteria seating. I tried the club sandwich(next to no meat), the hollandaise crêpe(the hollandaise sauce was gravy), peach crêpe(underripe and unsweetened), fries(stale and mealy), the cheese blintzes(straight up cold cottage cheese, flavorless blueberries, and zero light sweetness), and the coffee(Fine enough. Denny’s has similar coffee). Ultimately, if I had to choose between here and a friggin weinerschnitzel, I’d choose the weinerschnitzel every time.

The only reason I’m giving 3 stars it’s because of the tea cup wasn’t to clean and it was our first time my girlfriend and I visiting solvang and it was out first restaurant we stopped by for breakfast, but to be honest we liked there food cheap prices and delicious

This is a «seat yourself» place but had no signs indicating this which caused some initial confusion. Other than that our visit was lovely.

Went for breakfast today. There were at least 6 waitresses and only 3 tables full when we went in. After finishing my first cup of coffee, it was at least 10 minutes before the waitress came back around to refill me. One waitress refilled her table at least twice during those 10 minutes, both times walking right by my empty cup. The waitresses had quite a lively conversation going on in the back of the restaurant where they were huddled while they ignored us. The crepes benedict were good. Not great, but thats OK. My wife’s corned beef hash came out of a can, and her biscuit resembled a hockey puck more than it did a biscuit. Not impressed.

We came here for breakfast on a weekday to this cute quaint diner restaurant. The crunchy waffle was delicious and we also shared some traditional eggs with potatoes. It was a very basic but delicious breakfast-But I think they really shine when it comes to their waffles and pancakes! Great service and attentiveness — definitely would come back for breakfast!

Some good old friends and I were hungry for breakfast after a wedding night in Los Olivos and we decided upon this place. Ten of us were seated and were introduced to the menu. I ordered the Crepes Ratatouille which came with bread and fruit since breakfast always has ham and sausage(don’t eat pork). The crêpe was filled with fresh vegetables and cheese on top(1.00 extra for cheese). It wasn’t quite big, but it was tasty and not over-cooked. The rye bread with butter was great and the fruits were not bad. Great service and the waitress did separate our checks, which I was surprised that they did that. Usually places do not do this. I really wanted to try everything, waffles, pancakes, sandwiches, eggs, etc, but I did not want to break my wallet: P It’s a great café with some quality dishes. The vegetarian dishes may not fill you up, but that’s ok. I would suggest the waffles though as my friends said it was very good and sweet, but if your more of a savory person like me, go for the crepes and eggs. Overall: Great food, Good price, Great service

Love this place! Friendly service, food is consistently yummy, and great selection on the menu. I like that you have the option to get egg whites in your omelet. The toast and coffee are great, and they have espresso! This is the only place me and my husband go for breakfast in Solvang.

We needed a filling lunch and wanted to get out of the heat and this place looked like it would be able to provide that. The interior is decorated in a lot of traditional blue and white and the servers there wore Scandinavian type dresses; very cute. The dining area is small; there are a few tables and a low counter/bar to eat at. We were seated quickly and I ordered the Grilled Danish sausage with Havarti cheese and hubby had the Top Sirloin Steak Sandwich which is served open-faced. I hate to say this but the service is extremely slow. Granted, we were there on a Sunday afternoon and weekends are probably the busiest in Solvang, but it seemed like we sat there for a good 20 minutes before any food came out. When our server brought our plates out, she promptly notified us that she would be going on her break and left the check on the table for when we were ready for it. It’s fortunate that we didn’t need any condiments/refills because NOONE came by to check on us. If a server needs to take a break, I would assume he/she would’ve had another server cover those tables. She neither told us of who was covering, nor did anyone come by to let us know we were being covered. More likely than not, her tables were not being covered. The food was okay, a bit bland, portions a bit small, especially the top sirloin. Luckily I had a lot of fries, so we loaded up on those. For a place that caters to tourists all day long, one would think they’d have a better handle on quick customer service and servers’ break procedures. When we were done, we left cash for our meal on the table and walked out. Staff were standing near the registers at the door and no one said thanks or good bye. Pretty sad. Per the reviews for this place, it seems like the breakfasts are what people come here for. Avoid their non-breakfast dishes; they aren’t anything to write home about.

We stumbled upon this place after we got out of church at St Ines Mission on Sunday morning. We went with 5 adults and 1 child. The wait was about 2 minutes since I think we beat the morning rush. Our waitress(Kathryn) was so friendly, welcoming and quick. We had the chicken and mushroom crêpe, Ham and egg crêpe, Stars and Stripes waffle(strawberries, whip cream and blueberries) and strawberry crêpe with fresh orange juice all around. Everything was soooooo GOOD! The portions are perfect for 1 person. Enough for one to eat without leaving hungry or taking left overs home. Pricing is comparable to every other joint in Solvang. Thanks again for the hospitality Solvang!

Little pricey and you certainly receive less than friendly service. Our waitress, while accomodating, was a bit less than responsive to inquiries concerning our selections. As we had REAL Europeans with us while we dined, one point of suggestion would be for a «Belgian restaurant» staff to know that pommes frittes are french fries. This place is the seemed tourist trap the rest of the town seems to present. We ordered an array of burgers… hopefully the staff gets that right. If the food is as uneventful as our reception, then the two stars are a reward. Post note: Burgers were laden with grease and we’re unidentifiable meat slathered in American cheese. Not Belgian and not good.

This is s very nice alternative to long lines. We had a relatively short wait(15 minutes on a Saturday Morning when most places seemed to have long lines out the doors and 30+ minute wait times. The staff we encountered were all very pleasant. They made sure our drinks orders were taken, served promptly and kept refilled. They staff was sure to check and make sure everything was ok. The food was served hot always a plus! The portions were a bit smaller than anticipated but ample sized for the average person. The coffee was much better than some places it could handle creamer and not feel like I was drinking coffee flavored water for which I was thankful! Me being a Starbucks girl I like my coffee strong but this was good no complaints. The seating area is small and a bit tight even fit this woman! The Man had to «squeeze» into his chair. If you are very large that could be a problem at done tables. The do have counter service as well which was kinda cool like old time cafes. Back to the food I ordered strawberry cried since its strawberry season and a side if Danish sausage(1 sausage for 4.25 $ I think it was) had to have that carnivore fix. It was very good. No complaints. The Man ordered an omelet again it washing on arrival and was very good as were his potatoes which I snagged a few. We couldn’t help notice another couple also were pleased with their meal. It was very busy yet we never felt neglected, hurried, nor encountered the slightest bad attitude by any staff. It was a very enjoyable meal. Ok so why oh 3 stars? The cramped seating, in Solvang space is a premium understood. 2 it’s a bit pricey for basic brekkie items.(again it’s Solvang) The Staff gets 4.5 though! The food is good but did it scream at me this is to die for? No, but it was good no doubt about it. Now you know the rest of the story. :) I hope you enjoy your brekkie too!

Our favorite breakfast in Solvang by far, without the long line of Paula’s Pancake House. Big portions of decently priced, high quality, delicious food and yummy Farmer Brothers coffee served by girls in cute Danish outfits with short skirts. My pants were Belgian at the seams.
