First time here. Had Alaskan king crab legs. Very good. Jay was excellent. Exceptional server, had drinks the whole time, food was served hot. Very good experience. Will return.

Mediocre clam chowder, absolutely no flavor and runny — almost like water! Ordered Pineapple Express at bat while waiting for meal and that was just watered down vodka, literally, nothing, no flavor, def no pineapple. Poor service. Crab cioppino wasn’t bad but considering everything else I can’t begin to appreciate that, def wasn’t spectacular either! Complete disorganized chaos all around in that place.

Been passing by this place for half a year without entering it because I thought it looked ghetto. But yesterday, me and my girlfriend decide to give it s shot, it turned out to be pretty decent! It wasn’t the cleanest but it certainly wasn’t ghetto at all. Food was okay but the service was great; our waiter split all our meals into 2 separate plates, which was perfect because we were going to share anyway! Will definitely come back!

A bit of an older crowd, but the food is great. This is the original Fish Market, the second one would be the one in Point Loma. I usually sit at the bar and get a chowder and a salad. Both red and white chowders are delicious. Prawn salad is very good. If you would like to try something new, ask for recommendations from the chef! Toby is awesome!

I have been here a few times and have never been disappointed. I really enjoy the Truffel Rosemary Scallops and the chowder too.

Such a great local spot to have a quick lunch. I love the oysters and chowder. Everyone that I have encountered here is super friendly. A great all around spot for what it is. Packed during race season but predictable seating most of the year. Thumbs up!

I always heard good and positive things about this Resturant. Finally came in to try it out to how it was. Food was alright. Nothing special. The yellowtail plate that I got was flavorless and over cooked. We never saw our waitress, would disappear for a long period of time. We ordered the cheesecake and some coffee, it took about 20 minutes to reach our table(shouldn’t the cheesecake have already been made?) I understand that it was pretty steady but that was a bit much. Then took another 15 – 20 minutes for her to bring our bill back to our table…

Great, easy location, varied menu and although it’s walk-through and a bit pricey, the food was great! No view, right on the main street, but nice patio seating area.

Overpriced with small servings. Will not be back. Example: $ 17 for 3 small shrimp and 2 small scallops. Sides are not great either. There are too many other places to go around here to ever repeat this mistake.

Located across the street from Del Mar race track with a great selection of fresh seafood. There is even a walk up seafood department to buy your fresh fish by the pound. We love coming here for the happy hour and a bowl of clam chowder in the bar. A favorite stop when we are down south. The location is just a block off the freeway so it’s an easy stop just off the 5 freeway.

Enjoying a delicious seafood dinner with the family. The ambiance is very nice and our waiter Todd has recommended Maine Lobsters and New England Clam Chowder. The kids are doing fish & chips. The Fish Market is the best!

I know it seems like a tourist trap being across from the street from the track an all, but, it’s totally legit. I’ve enjoyed every grilled fish meal I’ve had here, and if you can get a seat at the oyster bar, the experience is even more fun!

This resturant is a great location! Didn’t have trouble finding parking but I can see myself struggling to find a spot of I am not lucky! But they do have valet! The restaurant was very spacious and wonderful. The servers were very friendly. The menu is very big but you are for sure going to find something you like! This place is the spot to go to if you are a seafood lover! You won’t be disappointed :) the calamari was yummy and my shrimp pesto pasta was great! Can’t wait to come back.

Unilocal says 3 stars is A-OK, and that’s how I feel about The Fish Market. I stopped by to grab happy hour with some friends. They had done some research and wanted a place that was ideal for happy hour in Solana Beach. The Fish Market kind of fits the bill. There is a large bar area with a patio where happy hour is served until 6:30 pm. Prices are reduced on some drinks and appetizers. There are a few local craft beers on tap and some available by the bottle. I had the crispy fish taco, which kind of tasted like chicken. It was a large taco, but it wasn’t particularly great. One of my friends also had the fish taco and wasn’t a fan either. With so many awesome fish taco options in this area, it is easy to be picky. Something to note is parking is actually pretty difficult. There is a small parking lot with spots for 10 minute parking if you are looking to pick up some fresh fish, and there is valet parking. Valet is $ 4. When we got there around 5 pm this place was packed with senior citizens, so maybe that’s why parking was so difficult!

Highest praise for the Fish Market, this is my happy place. Quite simply one of the best restaurants that you will ever enjoy, and the subject of my New Years Eve review, ending my Unilocal year with the best of the best. The open restaurant boasts high ceilings, classic wood paneling and photography that chronicles their rich history. You really can not go wrong if you dine in the restaurant, have a snack at the oyster bar, enjoy happy hour at the bar or pick up fresh fish to go. You do not need captain obvious to tell you that fresh fish is the hero at the Fish Market, but you may not know why it is do delicious. A sport fisherman and a gourmet chef teamed up with the vision of delivering the highest quality and freshest seafood on the west coast. The constantly changing seafood offerings are showcased in the fresh fish market and printed on menus that change daily. Fish caught on their own fleet of fishing boats, or harvested at Farallon fishery is proudly displayed and each of the staff members is educated across all of the products offered. Standouts include the Ducket’s bucket, a combination of clams, cockles and mussels in a white wine broth. This brings me to the sourdough bread, it can not be beat and is served with ramekins of butter, piping hot and ready to dip into the broth. Or better yet, you can get a cheesy garlic bread, slathered in artery clogging butter and cheese then toasted to crispy perfection. One of my indulgent all time favorite treats is panko scallops, this melt in your mouth treat has the freshness of the sea coated in a crispy exterior without a greasy finish. It is hard to make a decision with all of the cioppino, pasta dishes and salads available, so plan on coming hungry! The entrees allow you to select a fish, preparation style, and two side orders. You can be true to your diet with sides like sliced tomato, sauteed vegetables or cole slaw which may leave you wanting more. I recommend throwing your diet out the door, live on the edge with their famous au gratin potatoes, or «A’s» for short. You will be overjoyed with your favorite fish, flame broiled in «the Pit», an exhibition style mesquite grill. The chefs are masters of their trade and they pull it off the instant that it is seared so it is always cooked to perfection. Of course they have a full bar with beer on tap, so get your buzz on while enjoying the gems of the sea. If you have any room left then try the apple pie a la mode for a happy ending. You will thank me later. The Fish Market is a rite of passage, it will make you whole. If you have not eaten there, get in there ASAP — do not let another year go by!

I was only there once, so might change my mind if I ever get back. I had the New England Clam Chowder, which was okay(but I’m picky, since I’m from New England) and the Truffled Scallop appetizer, which was great. Wonderful atmosphere and good service. If I was a frequent visitor I’d check out the daily catches and explore their oyster bar, and bring home some of their deli fish selections.

What can I say. They have been here for ever and always a great meal. The Cioppino is incredible. The fish dishes are fantastic. The place gets loud and busy but they seemed to be used to it and handle it well. The service is usually up to par and I love the bar area. Comfy lil couch and great friendly bartender. The oyster bar is really the best shall i say, secret. Not really a secret but the chef is on point. They can make you whatever you want, or ask them to create something special for you. Don’t get hooked on their cheesy bread! OMG. The best thing ever but rich and a zillion calories. I think it’s smothered with mayo than something like a 11 cheese mixture that is insane. Toasted crispy and crumbly cheese. I also love their«York peppermint fishes» at the counter. The perfect bite of sweet after your meal.

No one told me this place was Gods waiting room??! I swear everyone dining here was a senior citizen. I live about an exit away from this place and have driven past numerous times. So tonight we decided to give this place a try for dinner. Definitely a fish market the minute u walk in you can’t miss the fishy smell. It feels olds and sticky inside could use a remodel. Fresh bread was brought out right away. Food came out quick but it was tasteless and forgettable. However I did enjoy our appetizer… the calamari. My sea bass $ 22 was slimy and flavorless. It came with a tiny side of fries and veggies. The food here is comparable to Sizzler but double the price tag. Sadly I will not ever be returning. One star for a parking lot which is rare in Del Mar and another star for service. Our waitress was fantastic and I could tell there was a nice camaraderie among the staff. Great teamwork!
