I have been taking viola lessons with Rhona for a year. When I first started with her, I had neck and shoulder pain and a squeaky bow. Not any more. She has helped me with my technique, posture, sound and rhythm. Not only is Rhona a great teacher, she adds her own little anecdotes and stories to make learning more fun. It helps me understand how to play a certain way. Rhona has a lot of patience and is a very caring, kindhearted person. If I had a different teacher, I don’t think I would be at the level I’m at today. With Rhona, I have had more performance opportunities than in school orchestra, always in very warm, supportive environments. To top it off, she gives out candy after every lesson!

Rhona offers so much more than«music lessons.» Sure, my daughter, an 8th grade violist has benefited tremendously from Rhona’s focus on body mechanics, technique and the release of tension, all essential for developing a beautiful sound and the skills necessary to play more complex pieces. But Rhona also understands that a well-rounded player needs performance opportunities, and she generously provides these, preparing students for solos and on-stage concerts/ensemble performances several times a year, including a low-pressure, positive Solofest judged by associates of Midwest Young Artists. Students even learn to work with an accompanist, either the esteemed Beatriz Helguera-Snow or Rhona herself(for the younger players). She also has strong connections to the orchestra programs and staff at many area schools and serves as mentor for students on the college scholarship track. My daughter has grown in confidence and musicianship thanks to Rhona’s expertise, warmth and patient encouragement. I’m so happy we found her. *By the way, I’m in my 50s, currently taking beginning violin lessons with Rhona and can attest that she does indeed possess the patience of a saint!*
