A bit pricey but good food. I come here once in a while to grab a skirt steak sandwich. Never had a problem.

Great spot for a decent burger and fries in the area. The burgers are a good size, juicy and have lots of flavor. The fries are hand-cut and fresh. I’ll definitely be back to try other things on the menu. My only complaint would be that they aren’t open late enough.

Thought I would give this place another try. Service is fast and food comes quickly. Got the dog and fries again. Hand cut fries were good. Could have been in the frier a tad longer. Dogs dont have natural casings which I am used to but they are good, not great. Buns were perfectly steamed today. Maybe ill try the burger next time. No more dogs for me. Just not my cup of tea.

I try so hard to like this place, but its operated by idiots. Every time I visit, my order comes out wrong. Today I ordered 2 hot dogs and onion rings. When I got home, and unpacked the bag, there was only 1 hot dog. I live too far away to return for 1 hot dog. Do I need to check my bag before I leave? I was the only person in the place, there was no one else there, except me, the fry cook, and the cashier. In the past, my sandwiches haven’t received the right toppings. You repeat yourself, you try to speak slowly and clearly, but to no resolve. I went there with my kids over the summer. When I ordered my dogs, they asked if I wanted everything, I said relish and onions. My hot dogs came with everything, except relish and onions. We waited quite a while for the food, and I waited even longer for the replacement order. My kids were done eating and squirmy by the time my order was ready. Its a joke, and a rip-off.

This place has hands down the best gyro in town. They fry the pita so it gets a nice little crisp to it and then add the meat which is nice and hot from their stove. The Tzatsiki sauce is also amazing. I’m not a big fan of fresh cut fries in general so I always get their mozzarella sticks — they’re pretty good too. The owner is super friendly and so is the cook. I don’t know all the nonsense about the language barrier — I’ve never had a problem understanding him or vice versa. Maybe it’s them he can’t understand? You can tell his first language might not be English — but that’s nothing to penalize him for. The food outweighs anything that a language barrier might stir up. All in all — I wish they were open every day ! I always find myself wanting a gyro on Sundays… and they’re closed !

Fair. Fries were great. Burger was decent, but I’ve had better. Real close to my place, so I’ll have to go again and get something else on the menu — steak sand looked interesting. Definitely worth stopping by for the fries alone…

Even though I only live a few min away from this place, I’ve only been there a couple of times. While the food is alright, it’s not always my first choice for a grill. It seems like whenever I drive by there, which is at least once a week, usually during peak lunch or dinner hours, there is never anybody in there. I know the place is insanely small, but still. I hope they do well bc there’s not a lot of places like it in the area.

Been coming here since the place opened. The owners and managers are super cool and friendly. The food has always been good and the place has always kept up with remodeling and looking clean. Nice to find a place that cares. PS. Best fries known to date

Great place with large menu but the gyros are tops and the fries with seasoned salt are a great accompaniment. Not expensive, great value. Individually owned, not like the franchise stuff in this neck of the woods.

Great burgers and fries. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Definitely can’t beat the price for what you get!

Best grilled cheese burger with grilled onions in the neighborhood of Skokie! Served with hot seasoned fresh cut fries. Pizza puff is a Chicago classic product, IL Taco. Can of pop or water bottle is refreshing. Small clean joint. Nice staff. Lucky to find seating. Eat in car or carry out. Worth the price and short trip from close by towns.

Usually the smaller and more generic the place, the more authentic the food. This place follows suit. I am usually kind of skeptical about ordering gyros from anywhere that is not Greek owned — come to find out the owner is Greek. And the gyro meat reflects the nationality. So I’m a bit of a food snob, shoot me. The Chicago style dogs are even made with the celery salt, which is such a must. The only thing I have to deduct starrage for is that the dogs are tiny compared to the bun, and forgive me but as a Chicago native, I feel that the dog should be proportioned to the bun at all times. Either way, this place is a great local establishment.

They always have really good specials like 2 hot dogs fries and drink for $ 5. I usually get a Greek salad with chicken to stay on the light side, it’s always fresh and the chicken is so juicy! If I feel like being«bad» I’ll get the bacon cheeseburger with everything on it. I’m extremely picky about soggy burgers and jonnys has never been soggy even with everything on it! The most important tip is to call your order ahead and have a plan to take it to go. It’s not an ideal place to dine in. There are only 5 barstool seats. They also have a patio with umbrellas where you can sit and enjoy your delicious food and great summer weather!

I love this place. When I’m craving a hot dog, sometimes Portillo’s is too much of a nightmare to drive to, and the drive-thru there can be insane at times. Instead, I go here – it’s closer, not to mention cheaper. I love the hot dogs here – they got the Chicago Dog right, since it even has celery salt!(Is it just me, or do a lot of places with Chicago Dogs forget to add celery salt to them?) The french fries are awesome, too – handcut, and spiced with a special seasoning. For me, McDonald’s is king of fast food french fries, and Johnny’s Grill is the king of french fries for take-out places. The gyros, skirt steak sandwich, gyros cheeseburger, and chicken taco are good, too.(The chicken taco has a slightly spicy sauce, and is not dry at all.) Note that this place is pretty much carry-out. You can either order on the phone or in person, but most people take their food to go. If you want to eat in, it gets crowded inside. The inside has two tables against the windows, with 5 stools total. There’s a bench outside you can eat on, and they just added an extension outdoor patio to eat on. It has about three tables or so, with about four chairs at each table. It’s best to call your order in for pickup, rather than ordering there, because it can get crowded inside very quickly, since the place is small and has a lot of carry-out orders going through.(Also, the guys on the phone are very nice, and take their time to make sure that they got your order correct. Always a plus, even though it’s what food establishments SHOULD do.)

i’m with my guy abe on this one… over two stars for the effort, add another just for being slightly less expensive than the village inn or curragh for in ‘n out eats… the food: just your old run of the mill burgers, dogs, gyros, and tacos… i’ve never had anything but the gyro cheeseburger, simply because it’s the only thing on the menu that seems to be of the best value — two meats under one bun… i’m pretty sure they don’t pat their own burgers and the gyro meat is probably from the same kronos supplier that every other greasy spoon gets it from… the menu is expensive for what it is, but they’re capitalizing on the fact that it’s the only game in the area, considering the village inn is a rip off for food and the curragh just sucks… two gyro cheeseburgers, two fries, and 2 cans of pop will run you $ 15 and some change… really? i mean, you can dine in at grecian kitchen less than a mile away and be sure you get leftovers and a refill at that price… is it going to put a dent in your pocket? no… but johnny’s needs to revise their pricing structure and step up the portions — regardless if they cut their own fries everday… i really don’t care, especially when they come out soggy in the brown bag or overseasoned with that stuff they put on them… the place is what it is… as for conversations with the owner… good luck trying to understand him… nice dude, but come on… it’s like trying to translate marble mouth… i know, mike you’re an ass… sorry…i just have to state the facts, simply becauase i want to hate this place, but it’s decent and they do an ok job for what they are… now…if they started to do rotisserie chicken or king size burritos, then i’d have a heavy opinion about why this place should fail… what type of clientele does this place have? i’m assuming anyone that’s within walking distance… simply because anyone that lives near it and has to drive a car there should probably burn a little more gas and hit the skokie staples… grecian kitchen, hubs, poochies… or anyone west of gross point, go to nanos… what about dengeo’s mike…“F” dengeos… the minute they started to try to mimick portillos and charging $ 5 for a friggin gyro is when i decided they deserve to go out of business… you can leave dengeos for the 20+ jagbags that stand around one pool table, smoking on overpriced rollers, at the cigar king…

We stopped in Johnny’s Grill because they had a «free french fries» with the purchase of a sandwich banner hanging from the awning. There was a steady flow of customers at 12:30 p.m. on a Tuesday afternoon. The place is very clean, but maybe because it’s so new. The order taker had a hard time understanding that we wanted three hot dogs with everything, no peppers; peppers on the side for two. Went through it three times with the order taker and ended up getting one hot dog with peppers on the dog and two hot dogs with peppers on the side. «With everything, no peppers» is what confused him. Everything to them means with peppers, so avoid using the word«everything» when ordering unless you want peppers. :-) The buns are just plain without poppy seeds. Doesn’t seem like they steam their hot dog buns. Fries appeared to have been pre-fried and then fried again when we placed the order. Greasy and limp. Herm’s Palace it is not, but it will do in a pinch. Open Mon-Sat 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sun 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. No tables. Just counter space and stools for 6 – 8 people. Outdoor table with seating for two during good weather. Hot dog, fries, drink: $ 4.75. Hot dog: $ 2.35 Fries: $ 1.95 Drink: $ 1.00 They also sell Gyros, burgers, chicken sandwiches, polish, steak sandwich, steak or chicken taco, chicken on pita, greek salad, shrimp basket, fish sandwich, onion rings and more.

Very small and clean little stand that is in the corner spot of a strip mall on Lincoln. The closed for a few years Abe’s on Lincoln used to be directly across the street, once again the neighborhood has a place to get something quick. However, this place will never be able to replace Abe’s on Lincoln. They are trying to do things right. Give them time, they are still working out the(new stand) bugs. Four stars based on potential, they’ll be fine over time. They do a few things special, like a Gyros Cheeseburger and have a clue in preparing the processed food. You’ll be at least marginally satisfied with the food and the prices are not all that great. For example, a combo for a skinless Vienna, homemade fries and a can of pop will run you 5 bucks, shiat. Separately, fries are $ 2, a can of pop is $ 1 and together as a combo they’re $ 2.50, whoopee. C’mon $ 2 for fries! This is Johnny’s second location, the original being downtown. A few stools with a counter will be your dining experience and anything over two customers will make this place seem busy.
