I live just a couple of miles from Skan-Ellus drive in, so I have come here quite a few times over the past couple of years. I assume that the name is derived from the location being in between Skaneateles and Marcellus. I could be wrong, but it seems to fit. I can’t speak for the food, although they do seem to have a variety of road side stand favs: hot dogs, burgers, fries, etc. I have only gone for ice cream. The ice cream is good. There are many flavors of soft and hard to choose from, and of course, sundaes, shakes and the like. The service is okay. Nothing spectacular, but nothing bad to say about it. As far as my experiences have gone, it is a solid place to stop and get an ice cream… but, nothing to write home about.

After a long day of driving to get to the Finger Lakes, we were looking for something simple and quick for dinner. The drive-in was exactly what we expected: good food delivered quickly. My husband had the fried haddock sandwich, which he really enjoyed. It was clearly hand-breaded. I had chicken fingers and fingers, both of which were nice and crispy. They have outdoor or indoor seating. We sat outside, so that we could keep an eye on our dog.

My niece loves this place. She had us bring her here twice because for ice cream once was not enough. The food is your typical diner food, but the ice cream is what they are known for. Be sure to ask for a hearty serving of crunch coat on your ice cream cone.

This is a regular stop: two chili dogs, fries and a twist. For a stand the windowed, air-conditioned dining area is nice.

4 words = Ice Cream Time Warp! Swung by with some friends and got very inexpensive ice cream in very large quantities and ate every single bite. It was delish. Next time I’m up in Skan town, I’ll come back for sure!

On our way to Rochester to visit our son, a student at RIT, our GPS took us on a scenic detour along Route 20, We were hungry and needed to stretch our legs and it was a beautiful, bright, warm and sunny day in May, so we pulled over at Skan-Ellus Drive In. I had a grilled chicken sandwich, my husband a turkey club, served with fries and quite possibly the best macaroni salad on the face of the earth, Didn’t have ice cream, casual and cheap to the max. But if I find myself in the Finger Lakes in the spring again, we will program this little spot into our GPS again.

Great ice cream. A good old fashion summer drive up stop. Sad when summer ends and skanellus closes. Grab a bite menu too… Burgers fries and more.
