Michael J. Fealy, MD FACS

I cannot say enough awesome things about Dr. Fealy. I have been seeing him for about 7 years and in that time he has done 7 successful surgeries on my wrists and elbow. All of the surgeries were worker’s comp and his office staff (at his previous office) were always on top of things trying to get the authorizations in a timely manner. Luckily he brought one of those employees with him to his new office to handle the work comp. Yes he is very technical but he truly does care about his patients and he truly wants the best for them. He has always explained everything to me in detail regarding every surgery and treatment. I trust him so much that my dad went to him for 2 surgeries as well which were both successful. I have referred him to multiple co-​workers who have similar wrist/​hand injuries. After having gone to several doctor’s before finding Dr. Fealy who wanted to just fuse my wrist (at age 21) because they could not find an explanation for my pain, I am so very glad that I made a last ditch effort to try one more doctor. Highly recommend Dr. Fealy!

Dr. Fealy fixed my broken hand (displaced/​fractured 4^th metacarpal) and left a very minimal scar on my left hand. Not only that, but my dad ended up seeing him 2 years later when he had a traumatic bike accident and broke his nose, and needed to get it surgically corrected. Fealy was great! I mean, the dude seriously could use a sense of humor, he’s not the warmest/​cuddliest, but he did his job and that’s all I ask for really. He hooked me up with a hand rehab place (whoever heard of THOSE?) and that got my hand fully functional again. Great doc. Didn’t laugh when I made the joke that his name is «Fealy» and he’s a hand doctor, though.

Good hand doctor. Gave me solid advice. Administered steroid shot first rather then suggest surgery. Shot did the job.
Glad he’s not a surgery hungry doctor.

I interviewed several doctors in preparation for my breast reduction surgery. Dr. Michael J. Fealy was the worst. Here is why:
1) Of the six doctors I visited, they all gave me the inital consultation for free. Dr. Fealy charged me and my insurance $ 250 to talk to me for 25 minutes. I’ve asked other friends who have had consultations with doctors and they all expressed surprise — none of them charged for just an initial consult.
2) During the consultation, my allergies were acting up (it was windy). I had a coughing fit (dry cough — not a «cold”-type cough), which I couldn’t shake and coughed for 10 minutes straight to the point where my eyes were tearing. Not once did Dr. Fealy stop talking, or ask if I was okay, or offer me a cup of water. Nothing! He never even acknowledged that I was coughing for that long. This to me was indicative of someone who has no empathy, and is clearly not paying attention, nor has any concern for the wellbeing of others. I stood in the waiting room, and coughed for not longer than 20 seconds before the receptionist asked if I was okay. So, she is a normal person.
3) Dr. Fealy looked at my breasts and insisted that it would never be covered my medical insurance — it was purely a cosmetic operation. And that he would agree with the insurance company’s potential denial of my claims. He said he did not want to bother with the hassle of submitting the forms to get it preapproved or covered by medical insurance — it takes too long. Instead he gave me a proposal for paying the surgery out of pocket — $ 8,000!
Note — not one other doctor said my surgery «definitely» wouldn’t be covered during the consultation. In fact, they said the opposite. I ultimately did have the surgery — it was covered without any hassle or pushback from my insurance company. The amount that my doctor removed from each breast was more than 2 times the required amount of tissue removal for insurance to cover the cost! Dr. Fealy’s advice was wrong and totally off the mark. I think he just wanted me to pay up front so he didn’t have to bother with paperwork.
4) During the consultation, I asked questions about the types of scars I would have, the method of surgery he uses, etc. He answered in highly medical terms (which I wrote down and looked up online later). He made no attempt to answer them in lay person’s terms, he knew full well there was no way I could fully understand his answers to my questions without some medical training or extensive research prior to the consultation.
5) Throughout the consultation, he made it seem like he did hundreds of breast reductions last year. He acted like he was such an authority. When I asked how many he did — it turned out he did 3! Three! Then he said he did a bunch of breast lifts — «which are basically the same thing». No they aren’t — not when you are removing tissue from a reduction they aren’t. They may result in the same scar pattern, but one surgery is entirely more complex to remove tissue without damaging nerves and other vital connections.
It is my opinion that Dr. Fealy is arrogant, greedy and likely a poor doctor. He gave me false and misleading information. He completely lacks empathy. Moreover, for him to offer only technical terms to a potential paitent as answers to common questions is a big indication of his own insecurity. I am a lawyer, and I would never dream of sitting in front of a client and using only legal Latin terms and Code sections to answer a question without further simplification.
DO NOT USE THIS DOCTOR. You will be sorry!
