Extremely rude staff. Seems like they hate their jobs and the customers they are hired to serve. I won’t be shopping here in the future because of the employee attitude; this is usually a sign of mismanagement that can result in store neglect in general. I also didn’t find any deals on food items compared to other markets, so no loss.

Great selection of Russian food and middle eastern foods as well. Love the deli, lots of choices and half the price of other chains. Great staff

Jons is the BEST for cheap produce. Every time I go, I walk out lugging a Costco family-sized cart of produce for the week, occasionally along with some other goodies like their cheap little sandwich meals and random on-sale items, for about $ 30-$ 50.00. Never have I spent more than $ 50 there. I’m telling you, this amount of produce could easily feed a family of eight for a week. I used to shop at Valley Produce, but stopped when I found Jons. I even drive across town just for the prices. The employees at the checkout line are always cheerful and friendly, and it’s never a crowded flurry of people fighting over food like Valley Produce, where you have to worry about an angry bubbe ramming you with her cart in a race to the fresh newly discounted strawberries. The produce itself is almost always high quality, but don’t expect to be babied when it comes to cleanliness or organic-ness or pre-chopped and washed whatever. You’re paying for vegetables nearly directly from the source, so if you don’t wash your lettuce well, you will indeed wind up consuming at least two flies in your salad per head(trust me — it’s happened before — not fun). Scrub that sheeit well unless you’re into that sort of thing. I get the occasional bad apple(lol get it) but I can’t really complain considering the prices of this stuff in comparison. The prices for everything else are shit. Don’t buy them from here. Don’t complain about high prices if you do. A good selection of ethnic staples but your best bet for prices when it comes to those are your local ethnic market or Valley Produce. Buy your fruit and vegetables here and nothing else.

Tonight, December 22, 2014, at approximately 8PM, I was very rudely kicked out of the store and treated unfairly by a person who seemed to be the on duty manager and the security guard. I am an amateur food photographer and a chef and had just had dinner at the sushi restaurant in the same plaza a few doors down. After dinner, I remembered I needed to buy some spices and butcher’s twine for the roast I plan to make for Christmas dinner so I decided to come to Jon’s Marketplace as it was most convenient. I walked in with my photo bag on, which very much resembles a backpack. I walked through the store for a few minutes looking for the items I needed and was yelled at from afar by the security guard. I didn’t realize he was talking to me until he yelled at me again and I turned around. He began harassing me for having a backpack on and asked me to turn it in to his manager. I kindly declined and tried to explain to him that I had my very expensive camera and equipment in the bag and did not feel comfortable giving it to them. I assumed then he and the manager believed I was attempting to steal and wanted to search my bag. The manager then came up to me and joined the security guard. The manager asked me what I was doing in the store and looking for and looked at me very puzzled when I told him I was looking for butcher’s twine. They were so confused that they had me explain to them what butcher’s twine is and what it’s used for. By that point, they had escorted me past the gate between the entrance and the rest of the store to the long hallway behind the registers. The manager said he’d check if they carried twine and left. The security guard, however, kept harassing me about my backpack in a very accusatory tone and kept repeating that they did not allow backpacks or bags in the store and I must turn it into his manager immediately. At this point, I decided to leave the store before things escalated further. I began walking down the hallway towards the exit while being closely followed by the security guard. I stopped at the desk just in front of the exit and grabbed a comment card. I began to fill out the comment card regarding the incident I was experiencing while the security guard stood behind me reading over my shoulder. I finished and left the comment card, which the security guard then grabbed and read as I walked out. He quickly put it down and continued to follow me even after I had left the store almost all the way to my car. He yelled at me again to turn around and pointed towards a copy of their current health inspection report before realizing he was mistaken. He then muttered some profanity and quickly pointed towards a different sign far above eye level which read they did not allow bags or backpacks in the store and yelled at me once more saying they didn’t allow bags in the store. I understand it is their store policy to not allow bags in the store and that they must enforce it, however, I wish I would have been told so as I was walking into the store so I could have run back to my car and put it away. I also wish I would have been asked to go put my bag back in my car then to be told I had to turn it in to the manager, if the issue was truly about me simply having my bag in the store. I am extremely irate and beyond disappointed in the way they treated me as if I were a criminal. It was embarrassing and I was stared at judgmentally by the rest of the customers in the store and the associates. Needless to say, I will never be returning to this store again.

I have been shopping at Jon’s for many years. It is my go-to place for all of my produce. The big chain markets tend to get all the pretty produce, while markets like Jon’s tend to get the C level produce, where there not as big and typically have some kind of minor blemish or imperfection on them. The upside is that their stuff is always fresh and much less expensive than the chain stores. You can walk out of there with two full bags of fresh produce for about $ 12, where you would pay $ 35 at Pavilions for the same, albeit prettier, produce. Hey, it all looks the same in a soup of salad. Well, here’s my beef. Recently, they have brought in new plastic produce bags. Unlike the opaque bags you see in most stores, these new bags are completely clear and have big green print on them. THESENEWBAGSSTINK! When I say stink I mean they reek. It is a very unpleasant odor. It might be from the ink on the bag. You can smell them when you walk in the store. You can smell them from the trunk of your car on the drive home and your entire refrigerator will stink of them for days and weeks after they are gone. Maybe I’m being overly sensitive to this odor, but until they get rid of those bags, I’m outta there. I have to shave two stars for this breech of trust. Jon’s, we were buds for so many years, but now I must bid you farewell, I will miss you so, sniff, sniff, I’m hurting man!

Great produce department, I am the fourth to laud. 5 avocados for 1 $, 3lbs of satsuma’s for 1 $. I am a happy person. In Michigan, sometimes you can purchase 2 avocados for 3 $…why, seriously. Ah, California. I have not purchased many goods outside of produce, aside from tortillas & cheese, check the dates on the cheese for sell-by information(as you should do anywhere, really). The queso was on sale, but expired in like 3 days… if you have a big group to feed that be fine, otherwise not so much. I also liked looking at their selection of teas, and agree that they have a nice variety of ethnic ingredients. Cheers.

The freshest, cheapest produce I’ve found in Simi Valley!(Plus, huge bundles of fresh herbs!) We were having a margarita party with fish taco’s and I was able to find some great, authentic Mexican ingredients for reasonable prices. The staff is fantastic! I was thanked for visiting them 3 times during my shopping trip on Friday.(Now that made me feel like a valuable customer!) Only 1 complaint — it smells a little fishy when you first walk in the door. Not too appealing when you’re shopping for food.

But 1 big cavaet. I’ve only bought produce there. My step-mom was going on and on about the fruit at the one in Winnetka. I kind of cringed because I’ve been into the one in Winnetka(ew!) I was pleasantly suprised. The place seemed well organized and stocked. And the summer fruit was plentiful. The peaches were 59 cent a pound!!! and the nectarines were not much more. I bought peaches, nectarines, pluots, cherries and a coconut. I splurged on the cherries since the produce man gave me a sample and guess what? They actually had flavor. I let the peaches and nectarines ripen and they were delicious and juicy. The were the best store bought fruit I’ve had in a long time. I didn’t like the pluots but then that was the first time I’ve tried them. The coconut was a little sour, lots of liquid and the flesh was hard but they were only a buck.
