I love this little shop so much. When I lived down the street I wanted to come here so bad but they always closed so early that in the afternoon when I walked into town I had missed my shot. I came last week and tried the turkey cranberry(one of my favorite kind of sandwiches) and it was so yummy! I am back now trying the Classic(but coming here is really just an excuse to buy pastries) If you have to pick one get a Morning Bun. Everything is good though! Also, lucky for you they serve LaMill. Make sure to treat yourself to a beverage.

This is the real deal. If you’re looking for amazing pastries, look no further. I stopped in to get a few to go, and I could NOT believe how delicious they were. Their croissants(plain, almond, chocolate) are easily the best I’ve ever had in Los Angeles, and their other baked goods appear to be on point. Prices are not cheap, but, they are completely reasonable, given their amazing quality(about $ 3 each). This will definitely be my new go-to pastry spot, and I look forward to trying their savory items(quiche, sandwiches, salads, etc!)

Love their soup and bread here! My wife love their crossings as well, she gets them every time! And best of all, their bread are made fresh every morning!

One of my friends from work was craving Mother Moo ice cream. So a group of 4 of us headed to Sierra Madre to find a place for lunch prior to our Friday ice cream treat! We’ve tried almost all the restaurants along Baldwin Ave by Sierra Madre Blvd already. We usually head to Bean Town, but since our last experience there wasn’t so pleasant, I had to find another option. We decided to come to Poppy Cake which is about ¼ mile west of Baldwin Ave. they offer baked goods, sandwiches and salads. They serve free-range chicken and turkey and have fresh baked breads. I decided to go with a Classic Turkey sandwich with multi-grain bread($ 8.00 + tax $ 0.72). The sandwich itself was pretty simple and not«huge». It was just the sandwich and didn’t have any sides with it(no side salad or anything) You can add a side salad for an additional $ 2.00. The sandwich had lettuce, red onion and green tomato in it.(Originally I thought they were slices of pickle but turned out to be tomato.) Upon first bite, what got me was definitely the turkey! They were nice slices of white meat, moist… not dried out. Then was the texture of the bread. It had a nice crisp along the crust, but the middle of the bread had a nice«chew». My friend got the chicken salad and mentioned that she normally doesn’t care for croutons, but the ones that came in her salad were the best she’s ever had since they make it with their bread. My other friend also bought some pastries. The only negative I had to mention was that the service was slow when we were ordering. There was also food sitting at the counter for a while before the staff brought it out to the tables. Once two additional people came to help out by taking orders, it did go a little smoother. This is definitely a place I would want to come again and try more of their products. 8⁄100 Reviews for 2016

Best local bakery… We love this place. Friendliest staff and best goodies around. Please bottle your house made hot sauce! Fried chicken is perfect, morning buns for the win and best chocolate chip cookie(according to my 5 year old). Go the and be happy.

I’ve been here enough times for lunch that I feel confident leaving a 5-star review. This place is adorable aesthetically — ladder bookshelf, chalkboard menu, intimate wooden tables. The staff is young and friendly. The menu is small but offers enough to vary your order on every visit. They use all that local, organic, free-range goodness that makes this one of those small businesses I’m proud to support.

I love supporting local businesses. We come to Sierra Madre for brunch/lunch/dinner very frequently because it is such a cute town and full of small businesses. The quality of the food and pastry at this place is great. But I find their services hit or miss. The owner lady is nice, but I was served by a shorter young girl a few times earlier in 2015 and she was not the friendliest. When I told her which items I wanted, she kinda had this look on her face like she was doing me a favor by helping me. It was a little weird. I have not been back since, but I do miss their pastries.

The Free Range Turkey Chili, fresh bread, and iced green tea are my personal favorites. Variety of options to choose including gluten free.

This review is only based off their sweet potato pumpkin pie! I loved it! I could definitely taste the spice :) Buut my sister wasn’t a fan, she thought it was too sweet. We had another pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving from Marie Callender’s. It was picked up from Boston Market for about $ 10. She liked that one better. And I have to admit, the sweet potato pumpkin pie was delicious. But not 2.5 times more expensive delicious.(It was about $ 24). My other sister on the other hand didn’t taste a difference. My overall experience was nice though. I called Monday(week of Thanksgiving) to place an order bc I saw a cute pic of their pie on Unilocal that said it was the best pumpkin pie they’d ever had! I was disappointed that the pie in the pic had a cute decoration which mine did not. I picked up earlier than my pick up time with no problem and friendly customer service. Super cute area and bakery, just no parking lot. I parked in someone else’s lot, oops. But there was plenty of street parking when I went Wednesday afternoon. Last minute while there I saw a puppy treat and had to get it. I’m a sucker for my dog. But she’s super picky(she stays in shape). It’s peanut butter flavored but she didn’t seem too interested :(she played with it a bit and maybe licked it when I broke it into smaller pieces for her. I ended up throwing it in the yard, seems like the squirrels went cray for it though.

Finally a bakery that produces excellent baked goods. Fresh bread is just one of the goods offered daily. There is nothing like fresh bread that is still warm when you get it home to eat. The cookies, muffins, & croissants are all excellent. It makes the choice difficult. Sandwiches are freshly made right in front of you. The Italian is my favorite. The Chicken Pesto ranks right up there too. The staff are so friendly and you can tell they take pride in the goods that they baked. This is a must stop if you visit the city of Sierra Madre.

I should have tried this gem, a long time ago! People have told me how good this place is but a bakery is mostly off limits for me. Well, let me tell you that they are way more than a bakery. Everything is handmade! I was going to order a sandwich when a bowl of turkey chili crossed my path… I guess I’m having chili today! Because eating bread is an important part of my life, I thought I would learn more about their house baked breads. Poppy Cakes has a bread made with Grist & Toll flour! Talk about quality stuff! The lovely woman behind the counter asked if I would like to try one of their pastries. I kindly declined. She proceeded to show me a pumpkin muffin that was also baked using Grist & Toll flour! My denial was very short-lived! The turkey chili was fantastic! It was hearty, flavorful and filling. As I pulled out the pumpkin muffin, I figured I would eat half now and share the other half. Yeah, I ate it all! I like to eat the bottom first and save the top for last because I enjoy the crispy part best! The perfect consistency of this muffin ranks it amongst the best I’ve ever had! I can’t wait until I’m hungry again so I can go back and try more stuff!

My husband and I feel so fortunate to have Poppy Cake in our town. The food is delicious, very high quality, and beautiful to boot. The staff is really nice and professional. It’s also a great place to meet friends over coffee and a pastry. Note that they are not simply a bakery; their soups, chili, and quiche and other meals are also terrific. They also have homemade dog biscuits!

This bakery is straight up quality, pure quality, so the above average prices here are justifiable and worth the pretty penny. Everything and I mean everything I’ve tried here was delicious. What I love most about this place is that you know where the ingredients are sourced from and that everything is made from scratch… everything! Just read the huge chalkboard they have hanging. You’ll know which flour they use to the farms where they source their meat and produce. I come here at minimum two days a week for coffee($ 2LAMILL Coffee in Silverlake), pastries and especially to see what they have in the deli case. The deli case beholds homemade sides and entrees for sale. Most of the time it’s comfort food too! I just tried the BBQ pulled pork with homemade pickles and sauce and the spicy potato salad. Damn good. Try their fried chicken and deviled eggs too. Same enjoyment. My favorite pastry item is their granola bar. Made from scratch and full of oats, nuts and seeds. The perfect way to start your morning for your health nuts. Simply put, this is a bakery that provides superb quality food with a cozy, homey, local establishment vibe. Pay them a visit, you won’t regret it and thank me later.

When visiting a bakery for the first time I try the Baguette. Arianna handed me my baguette already bagged. When I checked inside it was blackened on the bottom, she said that it was crisp in the French way. At home it tasted burnt and the crumb(the inside) was damp and gummy with a smooth even texture as though it had not completely risen, all the holes were the same size. This was french in looks only, with an American crumb. Try the lemon rosemary loaf, skip the baguette.

Somehow I stumbled upon this cute little place. I looked it up on Unilocal and saw it had good reviews an figured I’d give them a try. The apple bearclaw was wonderful and the coffee was delicious.

Really not worth the rather expensive prices. The chocolate bread pudding was lame. The expensive salted caramel brownie was dry, small, and bland. The toffee chocolate cookie was dry and mediocre. I’ve made much tastier cake mix cookies. And the service was lacking. Both times I’ve felt largely ignored. Other customers were greeted quite warmly, but I didn’t get hardly a smile.

I mostly come here for the coffee. By far the best cup of coffee in Sierra Madre. They serve Lamill coffee from Silverlake which is a rarity in these parts! Pastries and breads are great and the sandwiches are also incredibly delicious.

I walked in to this bakery in Sierra Madre and was intrigued by the slice of s’mores that they had. It was more like a s’mores bar. I found it to be overly sweet and super decadent. Way more than a normal s’more would be. The marshmallow topping was very sweet and there was actually too much of it. The chocolate fudge middle was pretty good but too thick in my opinion. The graham cracker sugar or caramel bottom was tough to cut. It was thick and overly sweet. It’s hard for me to say that cause I like sweets and I love s’mores but i think it was just too much of everything for me. I wish it wasnt but it was… A little pricey too for a small neighborhood bakery. Service was friendly.

There are some very nice things about this bakery, other than that it is in my old hometown. They bake everything(that I know of) on the premisses. There are breads and cakes and muffins, as well as sandwiches and little lunch plates offered. You can certainly sit at one of their few tables to eat, but unfortunately the ambience is not so great. This used to be a liquor store called The Highlander, and it still has a bit of the spirit of a retail place about it, rather than grandma’s kitchen. Still — if you are in the neighborood it is worth a stop-by.
