I had high hopes for this place and was really disappointed. I had a bunch of cute dresses and shirts to sell and they didn’t accept any of them. Their store selection is mediocre and the staff didn’t seem very happy or friendly.

Showed up with an array of vintage clothes, and was told to come back the next day to pick them up. I explained I drove from the other side of town, so they had me wait 2 ½ hours. Why tell me to come back tomorrow in the first place? I’m sure it takes them a total of 15 minutes or less to sift through my things. Well, I ran some errands around Shorewood and came back. They did not take a single thing(ironically a few shirts in the trade pile were bought at Re-Threads). Why not take a peek at my stuff while I’m standing there and explain you don’t take men’s vintage clothes, instead of wasting my time? The staff seems clueless, and the style of clothes they have there now are just awful. Wish I could give 0 stars. Or negative stars.

I’m guessing it’s because no one wants to come here anymore because it drastically pales in comparison to the old ReThreads, but I can consistently find cute things here. Perhaps it’s not quite as unique as it was before, but I’ve never been bold enough to wear the crazy vintage and designer pieces anyway. I’m just glad I can get brands from places like Urban at a lesser price. The old ReThreads was an absolute Mecca of style. The music was always fantastic, the people working there so stylish and beautiful it was verging on intimidating. While the Shorewood ReThreads is definitely not on that level of perfection, it’s a good enough thrift store for me. I hope everyone else keeps hatin’ so I can keep snatching up the cute stuff.

For the Shorewood location, website clearly states: «Buy Counter closes two hours before store closing» I showed up at 4:30 with a bag, was turned down, saying the buy counter is only open 10 – 3. There was no one else in the store, and a terrible mess of items behind the counter. Oh, cool, be open ONLY during bank-like hours when people with jobs and/or classes can’t utilize your service. Employee tried to justify this by saying«it’s been this way for a few months» which if that is the case, why hasn’t the website been updated uhm, like, this year? She was apologetic, but I said that’s ridiculous and I’ll just take my business elsewhere. Skip it. I thought the Humboldt location was not so good, but somehow this place has gotten worse. Onward and upwards, kids. Find somewhere else to sell your stuff.

Horrible… Don’t get it? I would suggest donating old clothes as the feeling you may receive donating will far out shadow the $ 2 you may receive here for your $ 90, one year old sweater. Hiring punk kids who like to discuss their weekend plans while going through old clothing that have no idea what something is worth or what your customer base in this area want is hardly worth stomaching the horrible atmosphere just walking in the door. Get a clue, shorewood wants something hip and cool, not this! Do some research… Pay people what stuff is worth! Horrible, not worth the drive down the street to go here!

This place is dead to me. Rude wannabes. Agree with the other reviews. Re Threads is an epic fail.

I second Rachel N.‘s comment. RIP old ReThreads. This one isn’t like the old Humboldt location at all — much smaller, stark atmosphere despite the chaotic racks, unfriendly employees. It feels like you’re just walking into Goodwill with the florescent lighting. The Humboldt ReThreads had this older, vintage-y, home-y feel to it. I used to take my clothes there regularly and got a decent amount of money back, considering I would’ve taken it to Goodwill and got nothing. I LOVED the jewelry they used to sell in the cases, made by local designers. I have countless pieces(mainly earrings and necklaces) that I often get compliments on. I always try to buy/support local artists! Valerie was always a super nice employee, too! As a seller: The new Shorewood location seems like a mess, though. I’m not sure if it’s because they’re just getting started, but sheesh, they need to work on their manners and communication. When they first opened, I called to see if they were accepting clothes. I was told I’d have to wait a week because they had too much clothing already. Fine, understandable. I called about two weeks later and they told me I’d have to wait a month. What?! Then, I called about 3 months after they opened and the woman told me that they had been accepting clothes for months, but that it was going to take a week or two to go through it. At that point, I was just confused and figured I had nothing to lose by bringing my clothes in. I had two heaping boxes, and when I came back a few days later to pick-up, I think they took about 3 items totaling $ 8. Again, I stood there confused at what they’re accepting these days. I have a lot of brand name and high-end clothing, some of which was barely worn. I don’t understand their«good condition» claim, because as I was browsing while the woman ran to get my boxes, the first item I picked up had a giant hole on the shoulder! Some«good condition» that is. I saw a sweater next to it that has pills on it everywhere, looking so ratty. The store seemed littered in H&M and Wet Seal, that’s not exactly what I had in mind when I think«vintage.» So they’d rather accept pit-stained H&M shirts over Steve Madden boots that I wore three times?! The clothing being deemed«acceptable» to sellers just seems extremely inconsistent with what’s on their racks. I actually had better luck selling my clothes at Plato’s Closet, which speaks volumes! Overall, it was more of a hassle selling my clothes here. Don’t think I’ll be back, and I’ve discouraged friends from going to this location as well. Oh, and best of luck trying to find parking to even drop your clothes off in the first place. I wish they didn’t move locations :(

RIP old rethreads. I stopped into the new Shorewood location recently to check it out. It is nothing like it used to be. It’s now another Plato’s Closet. It looks like a place for teenage girls and their moms to go back-to-school shopping. No vintage. EXTREMELY tiny, close quarters. Practically no accessories, other than shoes and some coach coinpurses. I brought in a few things to possibly trade, and a reason they gave for not taking items was that they don’t take vintage. But the Rethreads website still says that they accept vintage from the 30’s-70’s, and in the FAQ’s it explains more about what vintage they are looking for. So that was confusing. If you’re looking for Plato’s Closet, here you go! If you’re looking for the Rethreads you remember from the Humboldt store, sorry, nothing like it exists anymore. :( I gave it two stars instead of one, because the prices are cheaper than they used to be. But I guess they’d have to lower prices for their new target customer of 15-year-olds who follow mall trends.
