Shoreline Library

I’ve been a patron of this library for 19 years and I love how it keeps growing and improving for the community. I don’t really come to hang out and peruse the shelves like I did in my high school years, but I do request purchases and pick up my holds from this specific location. The staff must think me crazy to keep asking them to buy books for me. But I figure, they got me hooked on the series in the first place…
It has a wide range of books, knowledgeable staff, computers, copiers (that have been replaced by copier/​scanner/​possible faxing machines), easy to navigate website, organized holds bookcases, and a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere. For people who don’t have ready access to printers, patrons are allowed 75 black and white printed pages a week (color costs more «units»). They even have self-​checkout and self-​check in. The self-​check in is more than a chute to toss your books in; its a machine that scans the barcode so that it actually checks the book back in.
Parking is better since they expanded it a few years ago. There are even 5-​min dropoff/​pickup spots, that probably get terribly abused. Or accidentally abused by people who venture beyond the outdoor return machines and get sucked into the wonders of a library.
This location offers tutoring, ESL practice, children’s programming, and even free counseling sessions by licensed professionals. They also have generous weekday hours (open til 8 PM!) but their weekends end around 5 or 6 PM.

I’ve been coming to this library for years.
While I don’t really come here to check out books to read for fun anymore, I do come here for other reasons. This past semester in college, I would come here with my tutor to work on math once a week. We never had a problem finding a table to study at, and the noise level was good for us to be able to concentrate in.
I also come here quite a bit for printing when I am in school. If you have a library card, you can print 75 pages or «units» as they call them every week. (note: 1 color page = 3 units). This is a great resource if you don’t have access to a printer or just don’t want to use up all your ink at home!
I haven’t had much interaction with the librarians in recent years, but whenever I needed help in the past, they were always friendly.
This is a good place to come for a relatively quiet study/​reading area.

They have good librarians. The library is small. Hard to find a real quiet spot to hide away but it works. I will they had a more secluded quiet area. Parking is great. Lots of homeless ppl like many other lib. Great resource for community cause it packs with ppl especially in the eve. They offer classes in other rooms. They have good numbers of computer.

I love all library’s and I’m a little biased since I’m born and raised in Shoreline.
I love that this location is keeping up with the times and have updated things over the years. They have self check out and self check in of library materials. I like that you can do this on your own to save time and it gives you a receipt even.
This location is bigger so there are always several staff members around to help answer a question. There is a big hold section divided between DVDs and books…
Also, they have a big children’s library and other sections of the library. Being a teacher, I alway come to this location because they have a good selection of Young Adult literature and kids books :)
Another plus is that it’s quiet and a great place to study. There are several computers you can use and even a copy machine if you’re doing research. I even come here on the warmer days of summer it’s a nice place to enjoy the AC and to read a book.

Love this library! I love libraries period! :) Plenty of parking and there is even 5-​minute drop off parking in the front for those doing a quick drop off/​pick up. These spots get abused, in my opinion, and irksome for those of us who really are dropping off/​picking up something quickly. Other than that, good selection of DVDs to check out on most days, and the ability to place holds online and pick up at your branch of choice is so convenient.
I went in for the first time months ago as I had an old library card and I knew I had to renew it since I couldn’t access my account online. I got to pick out my library card from different designs they had — this was cool being someone who loves choices and little details as such. I tried to log into my account online the next day but turns out when I registered my pin was not entered into my account upon registration. I got quick service and I was off to check out everything and anything I fancied.
(FYI, you can set up an account online and your card will be mailed to you.)
Be sure to check out the bookshelf with books and magazines on sale to the left of the foyer. I even saw a couple VHS tapes for kids. Expand your library and support the library at the same time. The price list is posted on the wall and there is a small wooden box at the checkout desk where you deposit your money.
Beware that they can recall an item/​prevent you from renewing an item if there is a hold request that needs to be filled. I experienced this with a new book that just came out. No worries, get on the wait list again. Also, the DVDs have been handled by many library patrons and get scratched. Just know that your movie may freeze or skip from time to time if it isn’t your DVD or Blu Ray player’s issue. I’m just thankful to have access to the DVDs despite the freezing or skipping.
I haven’t used this library for anything outside of checking out books, DVDs, and buying books from the sale shelves, but there are lots of services this branch offers. They have a huge kids section, computers, and a copy center. I plan on taking some community classes but I have yet to find one at Shoreline.
Nice clean library, quiet (of course!), pretty organized, accessible, user-​friendly, calm and helpful staff, nice collection, good location, plenty of parking, located right off the freeway, and nice atmosphere overall.

Came here looking for a book, but would have to wait for ten other people. The library assistant was willing to look up the Snohomish county library system and the Seattle public library system for me, nice of her. Well, I couldn’t wait and we found an option for an audio book.
The library assistant and I went through the motions of signing up an account, digitally checking out a book, and downloading the digital copy. I really appreciated her taking the time to help me.
On top if that, it was my luck that there was a free class on using digital library materials on tablets in half an hour. I sat down with another library assistant who walked me through the different apps i could use, how to check out a copy, the entire process.
I’m deducting one star because not everything is available digitally, but I’m checking again in another year.
The two individuals I worked with were really helpful in getting me set up.

Each of the King County Library System branches has its own head librarian. Although this branch is on my way to-​and-​from almost everywhere, its not my favorite. The space feels and sounds like a train-​station. The collection on the shelves here is «Lite» and one of the help desk librarians actually tells people to check Google! Better branches of KCLS are Lake Forest Park and Kirkland.

Definitely would recommend to anybody. Huge parking lot, biggest library around town. Ultra friendly staff (not in a weird way), and a great selection of books!

This is a great library. They have enough tables for laptop users, which is why I love this place. The staff is very knowledgable and happy and willing to help you find what you’re looking for. I have never had a problem with this library and I come here often. I give this library 5 stars.

Love, love, love my library! The website makes it so ready to place a book on hold. Its really easy to walk in and grab to ones they’ve set aside for you. I’ve also checked out the digital downloads. Its easy to download to your phone or ipod and best of all its free unless you’re turning in books late then there is a teen cent outer day charge. Since the digital downloads are automatically removed from the device you’ll never be late! But you also can’t decide to keep it longer to finish it up… not cool sometimes as I’ve had a book removed while I was listening to it. Still not their fault and I will continue to come here!

While I don’t live in Shoreline, I live close enough that I’ve checked out their library. For starters, they are open later than my local Seattle branch and has a parking lot twice the size. They do holds the same way as SPL does, basically you request a book and once it arrives at the closest branch to you, you are notified once they arrive.
Access to plentiful computer terminals and friendly staff, I highly recommend using this public resource. I want to mention again the staff at this branch. They really seem to go above and beyond what’s needed to give good customer service. One guy offered to help an older gentleman out to his car when he was struggling to balance his bag of newly checked out books with his other belongings.

It took me a while to get used to the idea that this is a large library. I moved from Maryland where my large library was almost twice the size of this location. Once I got over that I fell in love with this library.
A few years ago the library started major renovations starting with the parking lot. They are again making further renovations to the inside so the current book return is outside the front doors.
What I really love about the KCLS is that you can request any books and the library will pull them and place them on a hold shelf. You get about a week to pick them up once you’re notified they are in.
The library is very organized. I’ve never had a problem finding anything. It’s very obvious to me that everyone who works here enjoys their job and helping people.
There are tons of computers with internet access. The computers are always busy but there is a special station that you can use to make a reservation for a computer if they are all in use. No more jockeying for a computer. When it’s your turn you can just go over to the computer that you’ve been assigned and log in. I don’t normally have to wait for a computer at this library though.
I believe there is a 60 minute time limit on the library computers. However if you bring your own laptop there is unlimited free wi-​fi.
In addition to books you can also check out movies and music.

The KCLS (King County Library System) is wonderful! I have been coming here all my life, and it is one of the larger libraries of all the KCLS. Everything is well organized, including their website, catalog, browsing for DVDs, Music, Books, anything! If you can’t find what you are looking for, all you have to do is either go online to place a hold, or tell a staff member, and they will kindly assist you.
Some of my favorites about this library is that they have quite a collection of computers. Probably more than you would expect. Printing won’t cost you anything-​you can print up to 75 pages/​week. This is great esp. if you are in school, and have to print out articles/​readings. They have a great collection of Asian music-​which I love, because I always look forward to the new CDs they put out almost every other month or so.
They also have great programs/​classes (i.e. for tax returns, toddler reading) for free. My mom brought her tax return for help, and they did the rest for her! Always free local newspapers, quiet, study tables/​private study rooms, lots of helpful resources, conveniently located (& with now more parking spaces) All thumbs up!!!

This is the first time I ever been to a library in Washington. I like how clean it is inside and organized. Very easy to use computers and I am pleased to have a library close by:)

I’m pleasantly surprised at the libraries in the county, because God knows the libraries in San Diego suck, or non-​existent, or suck because they’re non-​existent. You get the picture.
Plenty of parking, study tables, ample room to breathe, stretch out and read, ya know? It’s conveniently located, spacious, and just an overall pleasant building to study in.
Nothing like books, wifi, and the lovely «quiet time» to enjoy both. Except, the obnoxious table of teen girls sitting next to me right now are fucking up the stars. STFU!

I love me some library. And KCLS has made the library business super accessible for everyone. I love their website; you can request books, DVDs and CDs for hold that are brought to your local branch. You can also renew your currently checked out items online (a brilliant touch, you rascally devils!).
The Shoreline branch is conveniently located and they have a great set-​up. I can walk in, grab my held items and self-​checkout within 5 minutes. My first trip in, a lovely library assistant gave me the dime tour and showed me how to use their computers. And the best thing is that its all FREE!!! And people say that libraries are at a technological disadvantage??? RIDICULOUS!

I’m giving props to the whole King County library system. It’s great for the simple fact that everything is online and I can reserve a book/​DVD/​or music from Woodinville and pick it up at the local branch.
That said the Shoreline Branch is great for being conveniently located right off the freeway, with lots of parking, plenty of computers, and a couple of meeting rooms to boot. It’s not the most comfortable place, but then again just reserve the book online, pick it up, and find a coffee shop to read it in.

My 2^nd home during my Seattle middle school years (tied with Fred Meyers).
I was mostly impressed, when I was not at the library, with how they mailed me all the R-​rated VHS and Explicit Lyrics CDs I wanted in their system.
Checked out such classics as Cocktail, Robocop, Die Hard, Spice 1, Nice & Smooth, Ice T, among other things (including Playboy magazines).
King County ROCKS!

Yes Virginia, there’re still libraries in this town and librarians have not become an extinct species. The question is…“Do people still read books with all the information that’s on the internet?” And the answer is behind book #1!
Brightly lit and colorfully painted interior filled with stacks of books, videos, magazines and those ever-​so-​helpful librarian-​types, the Shoreline Library has been a refuge for me during my study-​till-​I-​drop days. Lately, it seems to have become a community center with classes and activities to appeal to the younger crowd.
