OVERVIEW: — — — — — — — — — — — – Example Price: Cedar Board 2×6×16 foot Building Material Resource = $ 20.00 — Poor Service, No Delivery, Lower Quality Local Hardware Store in Portland = $ 24.00 –Good Service, $ 60 Delivery, High Quality Not to include your time to drive out there and load and unload and drive back. It’s totally not worth it to me to save $ 100 bucks. REVIEW: — — — — — — — — — — — — – PRICE: Meh — I found prices to be cheaper, but the savings are not that much. You’re saving maybe 20% but you have to deal with bad service, no delivery, poor selection, long drive, not the best boards(they all have some sort of character) SERVICE: Terrible — I called to inquiry about something I was unfamiliar with. The guy on the phone told me «Read the whole ad before calling. I am very busy». Than hangs up. I was thinking — maybe they get phone calls all day and they are very busy. When I got there, they were not busy. A customer was waiting at the counter and I was behind him. He was trying to get help — We can totally see 3 employees sitting in the back chilling and not caring to even acknowledge us. Me and the guy just looked at each other and kinda shrugged. I waited 10mins before I left because no one was even bothering acknowledging us. GOODFOR: I think its good for people who are doing small projects. Like a bird house or garden boxes. But for big projects go with the your favorite lumber place.

Lots of good stuff, old and new. Lots of wood, doors, windows. Knick knacks and antiques galore, all reasonably priced. You get material with character and you get to save money at the same time.

First, I like supporting local business. When someone does a great, job I take notice… look at all my other reviews. I will NOT be back to this place. They treated me like a child and rude. I asked the owners wife for a saw, she says«make sure you find a broom and clean up after yourself!» in a rude tone. Really? Your place looks like a dump and you get on my case before I even cut something about a small pile of wood dust? As I am cutting 1(ONLYONE) board the owner comes over and says«MAKESUREYOUTAKEALLTHEWOODYOUCUT!» I told him I knew the rules. He then continues on implying that I am leaving scraps… basically called me a liar. Saying the 20 scraps on the ground are from me. It took another employee, who was standing next to me and was helping me earlier to step in and say«He took all the scraps, those aren’t his.» As I was checking out the wife of the owner comes up and yells«YOUFORGETSOMETHING» Lots of unnecessary attitude. She said«You don’t have to take it, but you will be paying for it.» The trim cost $ 1.25 and wasn’t mine. As a business owner, you ask questions first such as «is this your trim?» «Are you aware of our cut policy?» ETC. You don’t attack a customer without having the facts. The place has crap quality and prices that are all over the map. You are better off going to the dump… it’s cleaner. I would rather pay the extra gas and prices at home depot or lowes than support the owners at Building Materials Resource. It’s to bad, because the employees(not the owners) are actually nice and try to help. I am guessing the owners and worn out. Probably been burned by other customers and then take it out on honest customers who don’t deserve it. I will NOT be back and neither will my friends or anyone else I talk to.

I can’t believe there aren’t already reviews for this place! I guess that’s because everyone who shops there is too busy building awesome things with their finds. I’ve been going here a few years, and they have everything… old and new things, building supplies, lumber, light fixtures, trim, tiles, sinks, doors, windows, plus a whole lot of quirky fun things to look at or take home and upcycle. The prices are way better than Home Depot type stores, the service amazing, and the selection impressive. Check it out, and write a nice review. Daniel and his crew deserve it.

Wow! Lots of stuff! I have built bee hives, chicken coops, raised beds, tomato cages, garage shelves, utility bookcases, fencing, berry trellis, and done a little remodeling around the house with materials from here. I’m not really into finish work so I can’t speak about their«fancy» woods, but they have lots of moulding, and some hardwoods. The place is voluminous and it is easy to get overwhelmed but they have been organizing and rearranging the last several months and it is easier now. The staff is helpful and knowledgable about where things are and what they have in stock. Just ask them and they will point you in the right direction. Most inventory is clearly priced now, but there may be a few items where you will need to ask. They can get a little busy at peak times, so either prepare to wander around and soak up the nostalgia, or come during a quieter time if you expect to need a lot of assistance. Check out their craigslist ads(link on their web page), this should give you some idea of what they have currently and give you a sense of direction when you get there. Only gripe is that the inventory changes quickly. If you see something you like, pick it up. It might not be there later. I could have used way more of those pressure treated posts! That metal roofing, I only got two sheets, those 14 ft 2×2’s would be perfect to finish off the garage shelves, oh well! Prices are reasonable, selection is always changing, staff is very friendly and helpful, and the craigslist ads are a good place to start you trip.
