This is definitely what you would call a Motel, capital M. I’ve stayed here a couple of times and could not ever find anything to complain about. Hell, I paid $ 35 a night. With that, you know what to expect. Possible dirty bathroom, yes. Possible drunk/high people knocking at your door at 2AM, yes. No breakfast. Nothing special. If you need a place to crash for a night, I’m not opposed to staying here. On a tight budget this place is just fine. Now that I make more money, I can«splurge» on something that people don’t crinkle their noses at.

Warning: do NOT stay here. There are better alternatives in Sherman at the same price or cheaper. I hate to even give it one star, but Unilocal won’t let me assign none. My boyfriend and I stayed here on our way back to UT-Austin just a few weeks ago. We’re both college students on a tight budget, so we’ve stayed in our fair share of motels and cheap lodging and know what to expect. The first room we were assigned reeked(and I mean REEKED) of cigarette smoke and vomit. When my boyfriend opened the door to the second room we were assigned, a giant cockroach jumped out of the room at us. My boyfriend kicked it away, and although I was frightened as to what we’d find in the room after that experience, I entered anyway. Not surprisingly, there were a few more cockroaches inside, as well as a couple dead crickets. As my boyfriend kicked the roaches out of the room and threw the dead crickets out, I went down to the lobby to speak to the manager. I told him about the bugs we found in the room and reminded him that cockroaches were a clear violation of health code regulations. I told him, rather politely might I add, that we were not staying in his hotel regardless of if we were assigned another room, as the place is obviously not clean and in violation of health regulations. I know a thing or two about pests, and where one or two roaches are, you can be certain that many more are near. The manager, in a very accusatory tone, told me the bugs were not his problem, and that my boyfriend and I should have gathered the crickets and roaches together in the room and then called him to come inspect them to be sure that we were not lying. Of course, our natural instincts were to immediately kick out/rid of the bugs instead of «preserve» them for the doubting, hard-headed manager to verify — whoops? He refused to refund us our money and almost put me to tears with his accusations that I was lying about the whole thing. Regardless, we left and found much cleaner accommodations with nicer managers at the Comfort Suites(a tad more expensive but totally worth it– with free breakfast– after that experience). We’ve had friends pass through Sherman the last few weeks and we’ve heavily discouraged them from staying at the Travellers’ Inn. If the cleaning staff cannot even remove dead cricket carcasses from the room, I hate to think what else they might be «missing» in their cleaning that fails to meet the naked eye. And the cockroach infestation is just a-whole-nother, much sicker, situation.
