California Building and Design

In 2011, I had California Building and Design, and owner Mark, redo my entire townhome. Mark’s workmanship ran the gamut, from redesigning my fireplace and building a mantle, changing a wall height in a split-​level floor plan, getting rid of a «popcorn» ceiling, adding and repainting kitchen cabinets, redoing an entire bathroom, adding recessed lighting, and even staining wood furniture to match a table. Then, again in 2014, I used Mark to make some restorations to a closet where I had a structural problem. At all times, Mark and his team exceeded all my expectations. Mark is a talented and detail-​oriented contractor who is patient yet diligent in his work. He took the time to review each step in the process, from flooring to fixtures. His workers were prompt and respectable; most importantly, I never had any difficulty leaving them at the house while I was at work. In addition to his work, Mark is a pleasure to be around and work with. He is professional, attentive, and has quite the artistic eye. I could not be happier with the way my home turned out, both times, and would not hesitate to recommend Mark to anyone.

I have done 3 projects (master suite, kitchen, and living room) with California Building and Design in the last 2 years and the results were spectacular. Mark Kargol took my ideas and turned them into a beautiful living space. He sourced materials and appliances that are high end on a midlevel budget. He also made suggestions that turned out to be the right way to go.
His crew are knowledgeable, trustworthy, and just nice people.

I would like to introduce and highly recommend California Building and Design, the owner of and contractor being Mark Kargol. Before getting into the scope of work that he performed at my home, I would like to relay to whomever is searching for a contractor to do home improvement or remodeling, the qualities of this person who you will be entrusting your life-​invested home to. I have been in my home for over 30 years, and have hired many, countless professionals to upgrade and perform home improvements during these past years, not all of whose results were positive or favorable. Finding a general contractor who you can trust and feel that is fair and has your best interest at hand, is of the utmost importance. Mark Kargol, at first meeting was so warm and friendly, and executed vast knowledge of his profession. He listens to what you want to accomplish and gives his ideas which are tremendously helpful. His pricing is unbelievably fair and he is motivated to get the job done as soon as possible. He has a vast and very talented and professional group of craftsmen (licensed subcontractors) who work with him. The work he did for me was absolutely awesome, starting with exterior landscaping, including creating good drainage, which was one of my main concerns, and a drip system to water the new foliage. The entire front of my home was transformed from one messy jungle, with a huge barren dirt filled area, to one of manicured beauty, including landscape lighting and a gorgeous design of plants and palms and rocks to simulate a dry river bed flowing throughout the entire front of my property. His team repaired severely cracked stucco on the house and waterproofed and painted a large portion of the house in front. His estimate and pricing was so fair and he even added more plants at no additional cost to me, just because he thought it would look better. His painters also painted an additional large portion of my house, not in the original scope of the work to be done, with once again, no additional cost to me. He placed timers for my lighting and whenever I needed help he would jump in his car and at his earliest convenience, would come over and help me. Very unique individual, for certain. His responsiveness is beyond the norm. He also recommended someone to put new flooring in 3 of my rooms, this once again being extremely fair in pricing. Mark truly has a love for his work and helping others!

Mark Kargol and his team are wonderful. He finished ahead of schedule. How often can you say that about a contractor? The price was reasonable. The work was great. He gave me advice on other things I need to keep an eye on as well. It’s a new place for me, so having the opinion of someone I can trust made the transition much easier. I will call him anytime I need work done in the future.
