OK, this is kind of a quaint classic place in a very small town. The Google map showing where it is at looks a lot busier than the location itself. Went there on a Tuesday night for their steak special. For $ 8.25(add $ 0.25 for sour cream), you get a baked potato and a grilled steak of fairly decent proportion. Great deal. Service was kind of slow, but we had a deck of cards and played gin, so it wasn’t a big deal. And I kind of enjoyed just sitting there and soaking up the atmosphere — though the old tools referred to in the previous review weren’t very evident. We went out to the place using several back road — quite the trip. Hope to go there again.

Sheridan is a lovely place to stop when you’ve decided to get out of the city and see some of the beautiful IL farmland. The Old Mill Tavern is an authentic country restaurant — old tools and memorabelia that have been on the walls for years, plastic table cloths, and a menu that mainly consists of fried chicken, fish, and burgers, with cole slaw and macaroni salad for side orders. I had ¼ light(Perdue) chicken. MMMMM — crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The coleslaw had a little too much onion for me, but it was crisp, not soaking in a bath of dressing. Service was slow, and even the regulars were surprised at that. So, leave you diet in the city and enjoy the scenic ride along IL71 to Sheridan.
