Passing through Shelton and the 4 of us found Doug’s Place. We were very happy with everything. Great menu, clean and bright, fast and friendly service. Well done!

Me and my family waited there for 10 minutes to order with no one in line and we weren’t even greeted. The staff also looked like they didn’t care about their job. It’s unfortunate I was looking forward to eating there.

Every time we come into town to look at land or for property, we always choose this place to eat. It is consistent each time and the place is always fairly busy. I get the dip and the half is around $ 7 plus another $ 1.50 for a cup of tomato soup. It is located on a side street, off highway 3. Around the corner from the(Chowder restaurant?) 1912 building. Too bad they can’t put their banner closer to the street– corner edge? It is somewhat a pain looking down each street, one by one, for the tall flag banner. The reason for one less point? If I owned a place like this, I would likely have more attentive service. The waitress is nice, very friendly but not available at important times. I had to wait at the cashier area for a menu and still was not greeted. I found one under, the chips location. Then, I went back up to order. And went up to pay and ask for a check. However, I will always still eat here. And if we buy property by 2017 there, I will make this my go to place to grab a nice sandwich. I hope they start to add porter beers. Thanks for the quaint visit. I spend about $ 26 today for a whole sandwich, half sandwich, side soup, chips, beer, and carbonated water(water could have been free?). Happy Shelton has a place to eat at. If you see other reviews, the location is hard to find. They could ask the city if they are allowed to put their flag closer to the corner. No need to put it in front of their door.

Staff was very nice. I had the berry salad, which was very good. I had the vegetable beef barley soup which was mediocre, and the coffee was old and awful. I was told they don’t sell much coffee, but if they made a fresh pot, they might sell more.

My wife and I had a bit of a hard time to find the place even though we were using our car’s navigation and then gave up on it and used Google Map and eventually after giving up on that too, just used our own old age scouting skills to find the place. Walked in and found the place unexpectedly busy for 2:30pm Saturday afternoon. You could see the customers were an equal mix of local old timers and out of towners including us. Beautiful old building outside and in, in downtown Shelton. Inside is exposed brick walls decorated with beautiful artworks. On the main wall a huge hand written menu on chalkboard, coveting almost the whole wall. Menu items are all interesting sandwiches with a personal and artistic twist. Mitch, who was manning the counter is a super energetic, friendly man, obviously enjoying his job. He recommended me to order the special pf the week, which was ‘SanMitch’. His own creation! My wife ordered a Farmer’s Salad. Both my sandwich and side of homemade coleslaw were incredibly fresh. Same goes for the salad. My SanMitch was so big and ingredients fresh and super tasty. I highly recommend the place. We will come back whenever we are in the area. Mitch and team, please keep up the good job. You’ll know know what keeps a business growing, quality product, customer service and that special ingredient in your food which is love of what you’re doing.

Stopped there for lunch enroute to Lake Quinault. Absolutely fantastic sandwiches that are truly worth the trip to Shelton for.

This is a cute place off the beaten path and has a lot of character and really nice sandwiches. It has counter ordering and then a quite small dining area so if you are planning on hitting the place during lunch time, either phone in your order or be prepared to wait a little and most likely standing room only. Everything is made on site and is fresh fresh fresh! I had a vegetarian sandwich called the Roasted Veggie Dream with portabella mushrooms, spouts, grilled zucchini and goat cheese and could only eat half! Bring your appetite and you will really enjoy the friendly service and fantastic sandwiches.

Finally! This place is awesome! I had the rockin’ robin sandwich and their home made chili. The place is quaint, cozy, and offers excellent sandwiches. All of the ingredients are fresh and the sandwiches are huge. In addition to good fresh food, they also offer great service. If you are looking for a place to dine in shelton, and you are tired of overcooked, reheated, unhealthy options– try doug’s place. They also have good beer and wine.

Great place, yummy sandwiches. I had the pork & my guy had the Ruben. The potato salad was good too. All the help was really nice. Only thing I like to see is seat covers in the bathroom.

This is our first week in our new«home town». With our first trip to Doug’s Place we had high expectations. My husband ordered the Pastrami sandwich with chips(Tim’s Chip’s). He said it was amazing with a smokey flavor. I ordered the grilled 5 cheese and WOW I was amazed at the flavor that they could pack into a grilled cheese. I will eat here again and again!!!

Amaze-balls! We had been wanting to come here for a while, and we were not disappointed. I had the West Coast Cuban, and my wife had the veggie dream! I enjoyed my sandwich but hers was even better! They use sprouts! We will definitely be back!

We stumbled across this place while waiting for my son to get his haircut. I noticed person after person walk in and out with smiles on their faces and food in their hands. I had the«Roast Beast» sandwich and it was amazing! A huge portion of roast beef and the perfect mix of onion, tomato, mayonnaise, and horseradish on sourdough. My wife had the«Five Cheese Grilled Cheese». I tried it and found it to be as delicious as my wife did! The place is small with limited seating, but it’s clean and the wait staff is terrific. We will be back soon.

We were driving through Shelton from an ocean get-away and hungry for some good sandwiches. Doug’s came through for us in a big way. We will definitely be back soon just to eat at here again! The best French dip«Downtown Dip» I have ever had. I added provolone and grilled onions, my friends had Swiss and onions and we were amazed with the amount of food that was brought out to us. The flavors were fabulous and left us feeling satisfied.

YOUHUNGRY? This was my third attempt to eat a sandwich from Doug’s place, they have been closed at random times with handwritten signs explaining the excuse. Today i witnessed the open sign so Placed an order at 12:30pm… they called at 2:00pm and said its ready for pickup, LOL. I was already full from a crummy subway sandwich because I thought they forgot about my order. I don’t know if I will waste my time again with this place. 1 ½ hours for a sandwich to be made is ridiculous.

I’ve heard many good things about Doug’s, but when I went, I was disappointed that they were closed for a week, «…for repairs, and time to spend with the family for the Holiday…» Easter Sunday, I understand. But a week for repairs AND for the holiday? It’s a little disconcerting to consider all the repairs that would require a weeks worth of fixing, no? Disappointed to say the least, but if they happen to reopen before I depart Shelton, I will definitely try them again. UPDATE: 4÷28÷15 I was able to place a pick-up order from Doug’s while I was still in the area. I ordered their vegetarian sandwich with goat cheese, a cup of soup and a dessert bar they were featuring. First, unless you are REALLY hungry split the sandwich with a friend, or plan on eating half now, half later. This giant sandwich arrived, and I enjoyed it with a cup of the soup of the day. Both were good… the sandwich was pleasantly messy & delicious. I think the sandwich was priced a bit high, but based on the size, I think it was money well spent. Make sure to allow plenty of time to call-in an order for pick up — they quoted us :45 minutes! The reason for this, I believe is that there are only a couple of staff at any given time, and they do a very brisk sit-down business, as well. Beyond that, everything is made fresh, and if they have a run on(say, eggplant) you may not get the sandwich you want(–ed). Enjoy.

So I’ve been here a couple more time since my last update. The food remains first class. The staff is friendly and helpful. There are some things they are still figuring out and something I wish was different. First, the food… I have tried the berry and antipasti salad… Both are excellent! Fresh greens is the most important part I think and they have kept those greens along with everything else fresh! Excellent. The sandwiches… I have tried the French dip, the chicken bacon pesto(a special), the Cuban, and their vegetarian sandwich… Though I had them add roast beef. Every one of the sandwiches were really good. I have never eaten any roast beef that is better — for real. They just do a great job on balancing the flavors. The only minor thing is their roared bread is pretty toasty. I have also tried the beef and veg soup and the coconut chicken curry soup. The beef veg had a nice and spicy flavor and coconut curry soup was the bomb. I would recommend both. The thing I wish they would change is this… If you want oranges or peppers you have to get them. The place is just too small for you to bother with that… Especially if they are busy. I would prefer they just come in the basket or not be available at all. They are still figuring out how to serve quickly. As an example… I came in at noon(I usually eat later) and found a seat. It was several minutes before I was noticed. There are 8 tables… So it is not as if I am one in a huge room. We ordered and I had order a cup of soup. It has been my experience that a cup of soup comes out immediately… But I had to ask for mine after the table next to me got theirs(they ordered after me). It also takes a LONG time at lunch. The person I was meeting had to take off to get back to work, a couple of gals had to give some friends money to pay their bill cause they were gonna be late for work. Over all, from walking in to getting my bill it was over an hour. That is just too long for a sandwich place at lunch. It seems they also have some weak points regarding understanding the sizes you are ordering… I have been charged for a small pasta salad instead of the scoop I ordered. There seems to be confusion between a cup and a bowl of soup and between a side and a half of a salad. Clarity here would be nice. I admit to being frustrated with being charged for something I did not ask for. They are good about fixing it… But when you are in a hurry at lunch time you just want it done right the first time. For me, these shortcomings are overshadowed by the great food. I am confident as this place continues to mature(they have only been open a couple of weeks) that they will address these issues.
