I love exploring small towns and historic buildings. You will get both of these experiences should you venture over to the Strand Theater. It was built in the 1900s and has been remodeled and is running as a not-for-profit. We went to see Michael Malone’s world release of his movie Bethlehem by comedian Michael Malone. It is frustrating when you go somewhere and not only do they not take cash, they don’t have a bank machine in the building. However, there is one across the street in CVS. They had a small bar in there. I don’t know if they always do or if it was just for this performance. But, drink prices were high at $ 6 for a small pour of liquor. Concession stand was small, but had popcorn and fountain soda and what more do you really need. The staff was very friendly and seemed very proud of their venue. We were thrilled to see that they are showing Hoosiers tonight with Bobby Plump there to tell the story so we are heading back tonight. What better way to see Hoosiers than in a small town theater? They seem to have a lot of comedians come through and I hear mention of Fright Nights and I absolutely love horror movies so I will be checking in to it and looks like they try to do some free events like they are showing Elf for free.

In the up and coming city of Shelbyville in the middle of an old fashion downtown that has been invaded by the chain stores stands The Strand Theater. The volunteers that have revitalized and run this theater have done an amazing job. You can tell the work they have done to restore the history and tradition of this great Vaudeville style theater of yesteryear. They bring in top notch entertainment as well as support the community with excellent local shows. If you ever get a chance to see a show at The Strand you will not be dissapointed! Drop some cash into the donation box because the volunteers work hard to keep this place up!

I love the Strand! I used to see movies here when I was a kid, and now I often take the stage as a performer. It’s an amazing place to see live music, plays, comedy shows, movies… you name it!

Who doesn’t love exploring small towns and their quaint buildings? The Strand Theatre in Shelbyville is just the place to go! A renovated theatre that has been restored to it’s former luster. The Strand was built in the early 1900s as a Vaudeville theatre and has been transformed from different types of theatres, to a cinema, and now back into what it was meant to do… support local arts and entertainment. Since it’s reinstatement as the Strand this local gem has been hosting local and nationally known comedians(I.e. Friends of Bob & Tom, Costaki Economopoulos, and soon Caroline Rhea). Comedian Michael Malone filmed his netflix special at the Strand. It also is a place for local arts & entertainment hosting several bands, plays, and local events every month in addition to Friday Night Frights highlighting new and classic horror films. When you first step in you may be drawn back by the pink interiors, however, I’m told this was the original colors of the theatre. It is completely grant and donation funded and all the«workers» are volunteers who spend their time helping. I love going to The Strand for affordable entertainment and to support local arts! Be sure to check it out!
