Swanson’s Dog Park and Daycare

Went out of town for two days and boarded our (fully vaccinated) 8 month old puppy. A day after we picked her up she started coughing and showing signs of kennel cough. After taking her to the vet for official diagnosis … I leaned they had seen cases of kennel cough coming from swansons-​boarded dogs the last three weeks in a row. I understand these things can happen even when vaccinated but what is upsetting is that even after I called to let swansons know my dog was exposed to and contracted kennel cough from their facility… I got nothing but a «thanks for letting us know». No apology… No asking how my dog was feeling. Nothing. Very disappointed and will never ever return.

Swanson’s is the best!!! I needed a place to leave my 4 month old puppy for a few hours. I was nervous that she wouldn’t be allowed because she’s too young to be spayed. The guy I talked to was super nice, and very helpful! He said they take puppies up to 9 months without being spayed or neutered! I was interested in trying a half day of daycare ($ 14 for 6 hours!) he said since I had never been there, I get a complimentary ½ day of daycare!!! So, I dropped my dog off for 6 hours, she had a blast, and it was free! Plus, on their website they have a webcam that you can watch your dog on. Best experience ever! Staff was amazing and place was very clean!!! Definitely going there again!!!

My dog loves Swanson’s! The business provides several dog related services including boarding and training as well as operating a private dog park. The business is owned and managed by a local vet and his family.
The dog park is very nice and is constantly improved upon by Dr. Swanson. It consists of a large grassy meadow and a small wooded area. My dog loves sniffing out squirrels in the woods and playing with other dogs in the meadow. Swanson’s charges $ 1 per day for use of the dog park, or a yearly pass may be purchased. An electric gate at the entrance ensures only paying customers enter. The dog park is great for a quick stop to get your dog some exercise, but keep her relatively clean compared to other parks like Shawnee Mission Park. It is a good safe place for dogs to play. Since it’s a private park, the management can help avoid situations with overly aggressive dogs or owners. For the most part, it also seems to result in people who care about there dog’s behavior being here and the dogs are supervised better than at the large public dog parks.
My dog’s favorite activity here is using the dog agility equipment either while taking a class or practicing on our own. It’s great exercise for the dog and human handler.
The daycare/​boarding service is great. Full day and half day daycare options are available. During daycare, the dogs are frequently taken outside for playtime. The dogs are broken up into groups by size/​temperament for playtime. Our dog comes home from daycare worn out for all the playtime and attention she receives. The handlers are great and genuinely care about the dogs.
We have learned a ton from classes we’ve taken at Swanson’s from obedience 1 & 2 to advanced agility. Classes are offered frequently, and if there is a type of class you are interested in that may not be offered, the Swansons and trainers will work to scheduled one.
There is also a doggie bath area that may be rented that includes professional grooming apparatuses. The groom room makes Swanson’s a good stop for people traveling with their dog since he can get a bath after a romp in the dog park if it’s needed.
Swanson’s is a great local business for dogs and dog owners.
