Fogones

I love this spot! Visited on Saturday and will definitely be back. The late, Saturday afternoon atmosphere was quaint and inviting. We started with queso blanco and a margarita. I would recommend both. I ordered fish and shrimp street tacos and believe they were some of the best I’ve ever had. Writing this review makes me want to go there right this minute!!!

Very delicious food! This was the first time my boyfriend and I tried this place. Which is crazy because it’s right down the street from us. We both ordered the street tacos, my boyfriend had the shredded chicken, and 2 steak, I had shrimp. And boy they were soooo delicious! And my boyfriend is very very picky and he absolutely loved it! We will definitely be returning!

I’ve lived in Kansas City my whole life… My favorite type of food is Mexican food… And I gotta say, this might be the best authentic Mexican joint I’ve ever tried. Trust me. I rarely leave good reviews.

Delicious food! Everything is super flavorful and fresh. The place isn’t anything fancy or over the top. It’s just perfect for a casual, delicious Mexican lunch or dinner. Laid back but service has always been great!

Food is outstanding and fresh. Expect to wait because it is made to order. It is worth it. Very friendly service and filling but doesn’t weigh you down like typical Mexican food. No greasy cheese. I’ve had the tamales, burrito supreme, quesadillas, enchiladas and nachos. Recommend them all.

Ordered Fajitas. No sizzling plate. Flour tortillas were not hot. Food was bland, steak was tough, no guacamole, lettuce, pico, sour cream… service was extremely slow, and we were the first customers in the restaurant.

Giving this place a 4 star rating because I want to come back and try a few more things. I saw that they have some pretty good specials. One of the days they have Patrón margaritas on special for $ 5.
But based on my experience today, I can say it’s a pretty solid 3.5÷4. We went Sunday around noon. The service was awesome. We were actually the only ones in the restaurant, although they did have a few to-​go orders. (I’m assuming the reason for the empty chairs was due to the snow and 7 degrees temps… Brrr).
I had the street tacos (one pork, one chicken). I couldn’t really tell the difference but they were both delicious. The slaw on top definitely unique. These tacos did not need any salsa as they were so flavorful! I think salsa would actually take away from the tacos.
I would rate the salsa around 2/2.5. My personal preference here. It wasn’t my favorite. Also, not included in your dine-​in. That’s fine by me, you’ll only pay $ 2.50 for chips and salsa.
The main reason I was drawn to this place was that they offer Mexican street corn (elotes). Served off the cob as an appetizer and a decent size runs about $ 6. Definitely would order again — probably would just get the elotes with chips instead of the salsa.
On my quest to find the best Mexican street corn in Kansas City, the ones found at Fogones are a good choice. I will be back and I will recommend to others.

My roommate and I had been meaning to try Fogones, so we ventured here one Friday night. The place was PACKED, like really really busy. We had a 10 minute wait, but it was definitely worth it.
There were several tables that ended up leaving because the poor waitress was in the weeds. Apparently they couldn’t be bothered to wait for authentic Mexican food, I guess they just wanted Chipotle or Taco Bell.
We ordered margaritas, which were phenomenal, and had the queso blanco (and chips/​salsa). Every basket of chips was hot and salted perfectly. The queso was awesome, and we devoured it pretty quickly. The salsa is really delicious as well, and is actual salsa, not vegetables in spicy tomato sauce.
My roommates ordered the street tacos, and being the Taco King, gave me a run down of all the things right/​wrong with the tacos. Needless to say, his wrong list was non-​existent. I ordered the Sopes with shredded chicken, which I really enjoyed. We both want to go back to Fogones at some point! We will definitely be repeat customers.
It wasn’t just the food that made our dining experience fun, the lone server was great! We both understood she was busy and just relaxed and enjoyed our drinks. She joked with us and we told her not to worry about the jerks that were leaving. She even offered to open up the gelato shop next door (her family owns it) if we wanted gelato (it was closed). She was great!

Tasty food but the one employee working seemed verrry less than thrilled to take a to-​go order an hour before close. Coming from a serving background, Im not sure why she wouldn’t want to throw on a smile for an easy $ 5 for putting a styrofoam box in a bag… it wasn’t exactly cutting into her side work considering she stood under the heat lamp for the full 20 minutes it took to prep the meal… In a city with lots of restaurant competitors, I don’t see a place like this staying in the game too long with this kind of service, but hopefully some constructive criticism will help them improve!

Definitely a unique experence! We went early on Friday evening, thinking we would be out in a reasonable amount of time considering only half the tables were filled. Then, upon second glance, noticed only one table had food. And that there was only one server/​busser in the whole restaurant. If we noticed this first, we probably wouldn’t have stayed.
I ordered fajitas and my husband ordered carne asada. When our food finally arrived, my chicken fajitas arrived as chicken and peppers over rice with beans on the side. While well cooked and seasoned, it definitely wasn’t what I ordered. My daughter’s taco was completely wrong, but since she ate most of our guacamole app she wasn’t terribly hungry anyway.
I really admired our server and how she kept what could have been a chaotic situation very calm. Will we be returning any time soon though? Probably not.

Lived in this area about a year and always wanted to try it. Finally did today and WOW! Loved the burrito and pork! It was unique and had excellent presentation! Will be back!!!

My husband and I came here for a Sunday afternoon lunch. The restaurant was very warm. There was only one other table of people here but they were VERY loud and their small kids ran around the restaurant. The waitress took 10 minutes to take our drink order and another 5 minutes to take our food order. We had been here an hour by the time we got our food.
The food was okay at best. The waitress was very rude and in a hurry to do nothing. She tossed our to-​go containers at me and sped away. What? Who does that?
As we were waiting the 10 minutes for our change a bug crawled up the wall. I’m no expert but it was definitely a roach.
We will not be coming back.

We’ve been there several times. The food is good, the service is awful. Yesterday evening was the worst experience ever. There were 2 servers and 5 tables. We sat on the patio, it took 10 minutes to place our drink order and they got that wrong, we placed our dinner order and ordered an appetizer they got that wrong. The appetizer arrived 20 minutes later and after another 50 minutes our food had not arrived. Everyone on the patio commented on the bad service and how its this way almost every time.
I might go back again but to will be a long time.

Wow, very impressed with the food here. My wife got the tamales and I got the shredded chicken and pork street tacos. Absolutely delicious. When we went, the owner was the only one in the kitchen cooking everything up, so there was a bit of a wait but totally worth it for some authentic, amazing food.

Came on a Tuesday.
Food was pretty good…
But service was pretty slow tonight.
Maybe new server, maybe just busier night than usual… but real slow.
Great patio, great for chill evening.

Outstanding food. Best Mexican I’ve had in the US. friendly. Every dish is authentic and hand crafted. Not just a burrito covered in sauce. Will be back a million times. All the sides are incredible too.

Service was SLOW. The place wasn’t packed but they were understaffed possibly because our waitress was running her butt off.
It took a while to get water and chips/​salsa on the table. By the way chips and salsa were $ 2.50.
Group of 3 that came in 15 min after us was served their food 10 min before our group of 6.
Food was ok but not great.
$ 6.95 for white cheese and $ 2.50 for chips and salsa didn’t seem right but I get it if there are people coming in and abusing the free chips and salsa.
Just really dumbfounded at how this was a 4 star place. I would give it 3 if they were on their game. Unfortunately tonight wasn’t the night.

Oooooh this place is wonderful! So glad my BFF intro’d me to it today. We sat on the patio and just had an amazing time. It’s a quiet, relaxing atmosphere. The chairs are comfortable, and the service was absolutely perfect. Our server, Molly, was a delight. She was just so sweet, funny, polite, and attentive. She is proud of her restaurant, and it shows in her enthusiasm.
All of the food we ordered was spectacular. My friend recommended the Mexican Street Corn as a side dish, and I’m so glad she did. It was such a wonderful mix of savory, spicy, and sweet.
The chips and salsa aren’t complimentary, but they’re so fresh & delicious, that I can’t complain. There are 2 salsas, and we also ordered the guacamole– it was chunky, lime-​y, and perfect.
We were stuffed, but the food was so wonderful that we decided to order some dessert. We had the churros– they’re so, so good– flavorful and piping hot fresh, drizzled with caramel and honey.
Found out that Tuesday is buy 2/​get 2 free on tacos. We will be back to test those out for sure!

Checking this place out for the first time. Queso Poblano Espanica was good, I think it would be better by adding chorizo. My wife had the ground beef street taco and a chicken street taco, both were tasty but the beef was a little dry. I had the pork tamales, these were very good and super yummy, I definitely recommend these. Service was speedy for lunch but then again there were only two tables. Ha. We were here early on a Sunday.
