Loganberry Books

WOW was I pleasantly surprised at this rare treasure of a place. Great to stop by and look around or just relax. I went to a Folknet, and plan to keep going to all their events. Well worth my trip

ALERT: THIS BOOKSTORE HAS FRIENDLY CATS AND IS THEREFORE THE. BEST.
It’s also huge. HUGE. I didn’t expect it to be so large, but when the fine folks of Unilocal Cleveland said to block out several hours for this place, they weren’t joking. I’m currently on a moratorium from buying books, so I didn’t pick anything up, but ooooh was it hard to resist.
There are so many sections here, and it looks like they have a lot of author events and a huuuge section for Cleveland and Ohio authors.
There’s also a big rare and vintage section with a large amount of old children’s books, so if you’re looking for that book your grandparents had that scared the crap out of you as a young’un you’ll probably be able to find it here.

I would almost move to the greater Cleveland area so I could live near this bookstore.
We need bookstores because we need a place to find the random bits of knowledge we didn’t know we needed — in a more artful way than scrolling through wikipedia (no offense intended wiki). This place has got the smell of art and old wood. And books. There’s nothing quite like «book smell».
I purchased a book from the 1800’s on the New York City life of «the lower classes». I will consider this purchases my homage to my home left behind.
There are a lot of really great antiquarian book-​finds to be found here! I wish I could stay around to find them all but, guess I’ll have to leave that up to you.

Imagine yourself in an empty room. No, imagine yourself in a building with many empty rooms. Now imagine those rooms being attacked by the world of books. Suddenly you are surrounded by everything fantasy and everything real. Every horrible person, place, thing, or idea is within striking distance. But relax, let’s have a look around.
In one room Emily Dickinson and Edgar Allen Poe coexist in a sort of melancholy unity. In another, Bill Clinton, Bill Bryson and Bill Watterson are all living together, sharing the same space, breathing the same air. In one room, you’re snatching Deep Thoughts books off the floor and stuffing them in your pocket like a fat kid on a pile of twinkies, while Richard Scarry looks over your shoulder. But in yet another you’re trying to avoid abduction by some Loganberry authority by not casting your eye upon some über-​rare and expensive book. Somewhere in the distance you can hear Lemony Snicket and Darby Conley exchanging witty remarks. Harry Potter, Harry Potter for Dummies. King James and Charles Darwin. Books on how to train dogs, books on how to eat dog, books on Snoop Dogg, everything imaginable is here. This place is endless.

I’m visiting Cleveland from Louisville, KY. My mom is here from Las Cruces, NM for the Cleveland Clinic. This morning she requested to do some shopping at a local bookstore, and Unilocal gave me Loganberry, and we are so glad it did! Wonderful ambiance, incredible selection, clean and very well organized (my first job was in a library, so I appreciate things like that!), and I thought the prices where very reasonable. Almost dangerously so! As an artist and an Art History enthusiast, I was left drooling over the massive selection of art, design, and craft books. You just can’t get that kind of selection from any of the big chain bookstores. Unexpectedly I found a whole section of books devoted to oriental rugs, something that my boyfriend loves, so was able to pick up a gift or two for him. And, best of all, I got to meet Otis!

A secret little gem for literature lovers and rare vintage books! I can’t believe I didn’t know about this place just off Shaker Square.
Cozy chairs to curl up in and sneak a peek. Sliding ladders that reach to the top of the ceiling high shelves, hardwood floor and tin ceiling. Oh, how I have longed to find a bookstore like this.
My friend that was with me even said it SMELLS like books.

Fun and beautiful bookstore. The way bookstore should be. Mix of used and new books. You feel like you are in old library. They have so many books you can choose from. I really miss this type of bookstores where you enjoy checking out books. Although back home I mostly order books online…,

Let me just say, I am ashamed of myself.
Ashamed for living in CLE for 5.5 years and not visiting before today.
Ashamed for all those books I ordered on Amazon — that soulless, yet awfully convenient monolith. Dammit, I should have been here at Loganberry, touching, admiring, SMELLING the books. I should have been basking in the soft twinkle lights and soothing music, curling up on one of their many chairs or couches with a tattered pillow. I should have been studying the beautiful oriental rugs that line section after section.
What is wrong with me??? This place was MEANT FOR ME. I could spend all day in here. A stellar representation of beauty and creativity.

This place is an independent bookseller, is cozy for browsing, is in an interesting location with lots of shops, has lots and lots of books to look at, and has a cat. All of which are positive things. It’s also neat, pretty and well-​organized, as opposed to many used-​book stores that have piles of books everywhere, including on the floor to stumble over, or that cram books into every available inch of a tiny space with all the charm of a rented storage locker.
If you just want to browse, poke around and maybe stumble on something cool in a bookstore that isn’t focused on current bestsellers or sci-​fi fantasy/​game stuff, this is a nice place to do it.
If, however, you have any sort of special request or are trying to buy something online rather than in the store, this place is less user-​friendly. Very little of their inventory seems to be online, and the responses I’ve gotten to a couple of e-​mail inquiries have been either unhelpful or patronizing. I’m a pretty experienced buyer of used books and collect certain authors, occasionally paying a pretty high price when the book merits it and I’ve done my research first to make sure price is fair. I remember quite well the old days about 20 years back when old, out-​of-​print books weren’t so easy to find, even on the Internet, and you pretty much had to take the used bookseller’s word for things (same for travel agents). When someone is telling me stuff about price and availability that a few simple searches on sales sites contradict, and talking down to me to boot, it makes me think their business model is not keeping up with the times — and also not want to ever work with them on a request or a special order or anything that isn’t right out front on the shelf with a price already on it.
Speaking of price, I am not sure I’d say the prices here are «moderate». The prices seem to be more on the high side compared with other independent booksellers, but I’m guessing some of that goes into keeping up the nice brick-​and-​mortar store space, which is understandable. The place is also in an «art and antiques area» in a traditionally wealthy town, so you’re unlikely to find any bargains here.
In conclusion, browsing once in a while = yes, if only to visit the cat. Not so good for online buying, special requests, or lower prices.

This is quite delightful. It has that warm atmosphere. It’s not commercial very few bookstores are around safe location go for it it’s a good place

I’ve wanted to like this place, I really have, but my last two experiences have rubbed me the wrong way.
Normally, this is a very warm and welcoming book store with lots of interesting old books and a modest collection of what’s hot right now. The ambiance is actually pretty cool, and the house cat occasionally rubs past your leg while purring.
BUT
A few weeks back I ordered a book, and after two weeks of waiting for it to arrive gave up and bought it at Barnes & Noble.
THEN
I thought I’d give these guys a second shot, because I really wanted to support an independent book store, I want these guys to thrive. But they are sure good at giving me reasons not to come back.
A week ago I called to order a book. They didn’t have it in stock, but they can order it, and I can come to my mom and pop book store to get a book. I asked the clerk when placing the order when she thought the book would arrive. She confidently told me Thursday. I said you «are you sure?» and was reassured that my book would get there in two days time. What this means to me, is that if you tell me the book will be in Thursday, then I can pop down to the store and buy it on Thursday.
Thursday comes, no call. I follow up with the Loganberry on the phone. The shipment arrived in the afternoon, and they had not had the time to filter through all of the orders yet. Okay, that makes sense. Friday, no call. Saturday, I stop by the store inquiring about the book. It wasn’t on the shelf, wrapped in a rubber band with my name on a post it. I was told Thursday arrival and now it’s Saturday?
The woman at the front saved the day by going «into the back» to see if it hadn’t been unloaded from a box. It hadn’t. They had my book, and still had not got around to unpacking and letting me know the book had arrived.
I call out the practice of telling me the book will be in on Thursday deceptive, and am very disappointed. As the customer, I care about one date, the date the book is available for me to purchase. I don’t give too craps when the book arrives in your store, that information is absolutely worthless to me, but I was sold that Thursday was the day my book would be available, and this was not the case.
I recommend against Loganberry for new books, or they replace their sales staff with honest humans. For books that have been around for a few years, definitely drop by, they might have it.
All in all, I’m bitter about having crummy experiences twice. If loganberry wants to be competitive with Amazon, I get that they can’t compete on price, but they absolutely can compete on service, and they didn’t show me.

AMAZING Place, so many books and collections of every type and interest. I felt like I never wanted to leave and there is even a Kitty in Residence, Otis let me pet him and play, Homey and comfortable places to sit, lots to look at and a warren of rooms to explore. Wish I could have transported that store to my home in San Diego! Yes the prices are high, but if you are a collector looking for that ONE book that you HAVE to have, this is your place, I bought several of their clearance books for a buck, so I went away very happy.

I spend an embarrassingly large chunk of my life in bookstores, but this is the only one I would definitely move into. Parts of it feel like stepping into the private library of a country estate, parts of it feel like you’ve found a nice tea room that happens to be lined with books, parts of it feel like a chic modern gallery. If you absolutely can’t fit another book on your shelf, at least go to check out a bookbinding show or an author’s talk.

The BEST and LAST remaining QUALITY used bookstore in Cleveland. I live in Seattle now but used to stop by Loganberry all the time when I lived in Cleveland. Now I only get to once a year upon my return visit. I love this bookstore. Other reviews sum up the selection, atmosphere, and service well, so no need for redundancy. Stop by and visit. Great place to kill a lazy afternoon or evening. After you buy your books, walk over to Dewey’s coffee on Shaker Square, only a half mile away, and read them.

If you’re a bibliophile, this is heaven. The art section is the best I’ve ever seen outside of a big museum. The bookstore itself is so beautiful. I spent hours here and only went though half the store. I’ll definitely be back.

Went there to see the Edible Books contest, and I can’t believe I’d never heard of this place before. It looks like a small store from the street, but it’s like walking into the Narnia closet. High ceilings; nooks and crannies; shelves to the ceiling; a bindery; an art gallery; antique book sanctuary; and the requisite bookstore cat (who was hiding from all of the people when I was there). It’s unbelievably charming and fun. Support independent booksellers! They even have a frequent visitor program.

Gorgeous bookstore! (Though a bit too cold – bring a sweater). The staff are friendly and helpful. However, don’t think this place is filled with rows of new bestsellers, it’s not. Their romance, scifi, fantasy, horror (etc) are very small. But if you are looking for unique books or nonfiction, this is the place for you!

You have to come inside to see this place to believe it. There are tall ladders to get to the highest books on the walls and walls of books. If you love books, this place will amaze you. They have all of the hottest new/​current books (and a HUGE selection at that!) as well as some great used books. The children’s section strikes me as being particularly large. I love visiting Loganberry every time I’m in the area.

There are lots of books new and old. Classics to new age, religion to children a real sight to behold. The mural on the outside and creative window dressings. U open the door and what a book blessing.
Most of the staff is friendly so check this hidden gem out so you wont be left out.

There are things that leave me speechless (yes, ME.)
I heard the other day of Loganberry books online, and after looking at pics and such, was intrigued. After wending my way to Larchmere, I found a spot to park, and walked down the front of an unassuming book shop, Loganberry Books…
And I walked into a combination of a museum, a bibliophiles fondest wishes… and a TARDIS.
The tiny front of this store is deceptive, for within, you shall find a VAST cavern of classic, mostly used but some new volumes of lore. Old to new, obscure to mainstream, met my eyes as I walked back into this massive store that I was speechless. So much classic bookage was there… it was a breathtaking delight.
The store is warm, not just in the literal sense, but the architecture, furniture, the shelves and floors give the place the feel of a museum that Indiana Jones would be proud to administer. Their fiction section? HUGE. With glass cases full of classics, from Science Fiction to Westerns. The rest of the store is packed with so much amazing literature, that I spent no small amount of time just looking around; browsers WILL be happy.
Then, there is the Sanctuary. In the very rear of the store is a room full of such leather-​bound delight (no, it’s books, get your mind away from there,) that I was awed. Volumes that were printed well before my Grandmother was born grace the woody shelves, and beckon to be read. Penny novels, whole collections of poetry, classics… need I say more?
Yeah, I do sound a little goofy here, but you know what; I APPRECIATE A GOOD SHRINE TO THE WRITTEN WORD! And this, my friends, is it.
One of the few difficulties here is they only have street parking, but this is no mass-​market shop my friends, this is for a SERIOUS bibliophile. Their prices are good, and the place is more comfortable than a comfy couch, so it’s a good place to consider your purchases.
Also, they do order books, so if you’re in need, you can ask and they may be able to find it for you.
My advice, go check out Loganberry, it’s a sweet deal for the literary heart:)
