Excellent sushi! Always do takeout — super fast and easy. A small restaurant but the service is prompt and attentive /the one time I dined in. Love that our small town has a fabulous sushi /Asian restaurant.

My husband and I go to Karaku every now and then and every time we try something new. We haven’t had a bad meal yet. The coconut shrimp appetizer is to die for, the special rolls are always unique and tasty, and the hibachi dinner is just as good as if you went to Shelton. The fish is always fresh here, the staff is friendly and welcoming and the restaurant itself is cozy. One of, if not THE best place to eat in Seymour.

Yucky place! Don’t waste your money. The sushi is good. But the entrée menu items are one of the worst I have ever had. We paid $ 80 and left the all food on the plate. They didn’t even apologize or ask us any thing. Just took the plates(to maybe reserve to someone else who knows) and brought us a check. Horrible

There aren’t many shining jewels in Seymour, especially when it comes to food, but Karaku is definitely one of the few and the proud. My family, friends, and I don’t frequent Karaku that often, since they don’t have the enticing«All You Can Eat for $ 20» special that many places boast. My stepdad usually insists on coming here for a special occasion, since he doesn’t trust any other place to make a decent Scorpion Bowl. We have many happy memories from our dining experiences at this quaint restaurant, including our version of the«A Christmas Story» dinner last Christmas Eve. ‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through Seymour, no restaurants were open, and it was a bore. As we didn’t have a big, happy family to prepare to feed, we decided, «Sushi sounds good, sushi we need». Okay, I’m not keeping up with that, but still, the staff at Karaku knew it was Christmas Eve and since we were the only people in the restaurant, they went out of their way to make our evening special. They even gave us a complimentary dessert, made from what I believe was fried tempura dough, whipped cream, and green tea ice cream that they artfully arranged to look like an angel fish! Needless to say, we were touched and left very fat and happy that night! All in all, the quality of the food and service greatly outshine the lack of an all you can eat special and I always jump at the opportunity to have dinner here at Karaku.

Go to sushi place in the valley! Owners are extremely friendly and the sushi is always better than other places in the valley. If you want sushi, go here!

I have been coming to Karaku for the past two years. Don’t let the fact that it’s in a dingy shopping mall and in Seymour scare you! It’s s hidden gem and I prefer to keep it that way :). Fantastic for sushi and hibachi style meals. Their sushi lunch specials are great too! The sushi here is always fresh and delish. They have the best specialists rolls and I highly recommend the Sushi Sandwhich Roll.

Karaku serves up delicious sushi dishes! It’s nice not to have to drive into New Haven or Hamden(I’m a big fan of Kumo) to feed my sushi craving anymore. This is a dedicated sushi restaurant, unlike some of the other Chinese/Sushi hybrid joints nearby. Those… concern me. Back to Karaku — I typically start with a fried gyoza appetizer before moving on to the Sweet Valentine Roll, often accompanied by a Philadelphia Roll or Spicy Salmon Roll. The rice is sticky, the fish is fresh, and the presentation is always nice. My only nitpick with this place is the quality of the chopsticks — they never break apart quite right! I get takeout from Karaku a few times a month, but have also eaten at the restaurant. The atmosphere is nice, the waitstaff is pleasant, and they have enough seating so as not to have a wait on a busy weekend evening. All in all, this is good sushi in Seymour!

This is the only place I will go for sushi. The ingredients are fresh and the special rolls are awesome! I highly recommend the Mexican roll!

People talk very positively about this place. I had tried it once before and was not impressed. But I thought I would try again. Now I’m all for al dente vegetables. But our edamame as an appetizer and the broccoli that came with our entrees were undercooked. I ordered the general tso’s chicken. To be honest, I think I got more breading than chicken. It ended up being a scavenger hunt to actually find chicken and not breading. On positive note, the portion was very generous. My daughter and I both took lots of food home, probably enough for 1 – 2 meals. The general tso’s was very flavorful. The staff seemed nice.

My girlfriend lives right down the road so we go here all the time if were in the mood for it. As far as the food Its usually always great, the sushi has always been awsome better than more expensive places I have been to and the habachi steak and chicken is always perfectly cooked. The drinks there are actually made really well, I was very suprised when we oprdered a scorpion bowl and it had nice kick to it while still tasting good. If you are in there area I would deffinetly give them a try you wont be dissapointed and there is never any wait to sit down and food comes quick if you are in a hurry.

I am updating my review because with the former owners, the restaurant was awful. NOW, with these NEW owners(even though they are related), we just LOVETHESEGUYS. Professional, and everything is always perfect. WEREALLYLIKETHISNEWCHANGEWITHTHENEWSTAFFHERE. I hope they make it, I like them very much. Food is now fresh and delicious. They worry if we are impressed, and honestly, I REALLY am. CHEERSFORKARAKU!

I pick up from here all the time. It is a great choice with a lot of healthy options when im too lazy to cook. I usually order edamame, miso soup, avocado salad, and one dinner(that changes depending what i feel) but those four things rarely cost more than $ 20.00 and it surprises me every time! You pay«fast-food, Chinese food» price for quality, healthy Japanese food.

Never dined in, always had take out. Sushi is excellent but disappointed with Pad Thai however it is a Japanese Restaurant. Fried oysters was excellent, friendly staff. Reasonably priced and choices of sushi roll are the typical rolls.

Great selection of food and sushi, and the only place around you can find green tea ice cream, which is the best. It’s small and a bit dark but comfortable. The staff has always been nice and quick. My only complaint would be that sometimes the portions are very small for the price.

I have been here quite a few times and plan to keep going. The restaurant is farily new and the inside although small is well decorated and comfortable. The staff has always been freindly and attentive. As for the food, everything I have ever had has been excellent. They make good fresh sushi, although a bit pricy and I especially love the Kani Su salad, also a bit pricing for the portion. The hibachi food is good and the fried rice is excellent. I have had both the plain and chicken fried rice — I prefer the chicken which can be a meal by itself.

Karaku is fantastic. A really refreshing concept for Seymour and really well done. While I’m sure most of the seafood is frozen it’s always«fresh». The grilled vegetables have a perfect texture. And, their Bento Boxes are a great idea, whether you’re coming from the gym, or just looking for a light lunch. I don’t know what makes their Hibachi options«Hibachi», but for all I know Hibachi means grilled in Japanese. Overall It’s a great addition to the area, which has been lacking in any sort of culinary diversity. I’m proud to think that Karaku will enjoy a long run in Seymour and I doubt they’ll ever serve pizza.
