Dr Shinn is a kind person, & I truly believe she cares for her patients. However, she could not think out of the box to diagnose a condition I suffered from for ELEVEN years. I was only finally diagnosed because I insisted on a procedure by a gastroenterologist) who finally found out why I was so deathly ill for so long — Celiac Disease.(even though I had all the classic symptoms Dr Shinn never suspected it, & neither did her partner.) In addition I went another 6 years still very sick–(just not nauseous anymore) It wasn’t until I left Dr Shinn as a patient & finally went to another doctor., who was able to diagnose me(after only four months) with Sjögren’s Syndrome. This was caused by the Celiac Disease going undiagnosed for so long. Dr. Shinn is an internist — yet my new doctor is just General Practitioner, but was still able to do for a new patient what Dr Shinn could not. I suppose Dr Shinn is a great doctor as long as you don’t have a serious illness, & only need occasional treatment for common ailments. But if there is something seriously wrong, and you need a diagnosis, you might want to find another doctor to help you.

Dr. Sarah Shinn has been my Primary Physician for around 20 years. I’ve stayed with her because she is irreplaceable and exceedingly good at what she does. She’s been named to Pittsburgh Magazine’s Top Doctors list in past years and it’s well deserved. Sarah is personable, easy to discuss just about anything with, and really knowledgeable in her field. She never makes you feel like she’s rushing to get to the next patient and she’s efficient and thorough. She’s really good at analyzing your personal risk factors and ordering tests that will give her a clearer picture of your health because her goal is always to keep her patients healthy. Some of the tests she’s ordered were things I’ve literally known nothing about but did them because I trusted her judgment and said afterward, thank goodness I did that when something was discovered that needed to be. Her office has also called me with a subtle reminder to get my act together and call to schedule a test she’s felt was necessary and I’d been putting off. How many physicians are that on top of things? I’d venture to guess that type of follow-up is unique and just one more thing that makes her amazing.
