Stanch’s Tree Service

My experience with Stanch’s was top notch. Even with the company being super busy from a summer storm, they found time to come out quickly, give a competitive estimate, call me promptly to set up a job date and showed up at the time they said they would. Owner was on site to oversee the job. The crew did a great job trimming up 4 trees and left the yard cleaner than when they arrived. Overall a great experience and would definitely use them again.

I want to say first off that I cannot speak to their service as I declined it after the visit from a salesman/​estimator this morning. We have two trees to be removed, and Stanch’s was kind enough to squeeze us in for an estimate as our area has been hit pretty hard by storms. However, the man they sent was rude, condescending and pulled every trick in the book to get me to hire them. To start with, he was terrified of dogs (mine are 15 and 25 pounds respectively and have never hurt a soul) and refused to set foot in the house until I locked them up (the only way to get to the trees was through the house as they were blocking the back door/​gates) I get that people have phobias, but these shouldn’t be the people you send to someone’s house to get an estimate for work, let alone to do so without informing me in advance so I could have corralled the dogs sooner. It took me a bit to lock the dogs up as they have never been locked up and I’m recovering from shoulder surgery. The estimator told me afterwards that he had been bit 3 times over 10 years and had a bad back. He barely looked over the job and never even went back to look at the base of the trees before offering an estimate. When I told him we already had two estimates, he said ‘what, $ 3,000? $ 3500?’ and I told him no, both were under $ 2000. He then proceeded to give me a $ 2400 estimate and tell me that they were the biggest business in the area (I have no reason to believe this) and that anyone who would offer lower estimates must be small and uninsured (neither of the companies who we had bids from were uninsured, nor small). He then tried to scare me into signing with him by telling me a story about a woman he knew who was being sued by the mother of one of the workmen who was injured doing work on her property and that this woman was now liable because the company didn’t carry insurance. He tried to show me his new awesome crane on his phone, but was unable to pull up the video/​picture and then explained that it was a $ 600,000 crane and they don’t bring it out for less than $ 2,000. When I brought up again that the other bids were lower, he told me I needed to run it by my husband first, as if I’m incapable of realizing he was pulling a fast one because I was a woman. Lastly, when the scare/​bully tactics and condescending approach didn’t work, he started in on how tough life was as I was walking him out — his mother was dead, his father was dead, his daughter had died and his sister (?) was in a coma. Seriously? It’s not that I don’t feel for someone in this position, but a salesman/​estimator trying to get my business and playing the pity card was just too much. It could be that the actual work done by this company is fine, but I’ll never find out as there is no way I would hire anyone based on the visit from their estimator.

Living in Woodstown we decided to contact Stanch’s Tree Service given the company’s history of very positive reviews. We are still congratulating ourselves for going in this direction. From the time we received a very positive meeting with Bob to get an estimate to job completion this was an extremely positive experience. The present owner, John, was highly professional. It should be noted John remained on our property until the work was completed. The cost for the work was very fair and quite reasonable. The result of trimming various trees was no less than outstanding. Clean up was awesome… very thorough. To be sure we were incredibly pleased with Stanch’s Tree Service. Without question we plan on using their expertise to address our needs In the future. We highly recommend Stanch’s to anyone in need of their services.
