We visited during Lavender Festival July 2015 and we were glad we stopped at Nelson’s…with so many Lavender farms to visit and so many choices but with limited time, we only got to visit two farms, and this one of them… couldn’t have been happier! Nelson’s Duckpond sits in a residential area along a picturesque road. The parking was on their vast lawn and there were a few spots in the shade, which was a welcome relief during the very hot July summer. You were free to wander around the farm, partake in the U Pick Lavender option, nibble a few lavender poundcake samples at the tent, quench your thirst with some drinks, patronize the store with a ton of lavender stuff(I bought lip balm, poundcake mix, sugar, BBQ rub spices, chocolates, soap and room spray). The best part, however, according to the kid, was the duckpond in the back. The shop owner was super friendly when my son inquired as to why this place was called the«Duckpond» as he soon found out why — a turtle(forgot the name) and some ducks all share the vast huge back yard as one big happy fauna family. My son was lucky enough to be able to feed the ducks with some feed that was available for the Lavender Fest visitors. Everyone was super friendly and the grounds were very pretty. It wasn’t only the lavender fields, but everything around it! I’d love to patronize their cottages next time I’m in town!

We recently hopped on over to the farm as our first stop for the Lavender Festival. They were one of the farms part of the free«lavender tour». They seemed to have one of the smaller lavender fields, but their royal velvet bunches are pretty… and the lavender pound cakes are delicious.(Unfortunately, we were only able to get some of the samples. I think I saw the last one available at the time under somebody’s arms as they headed towards the picnic area.) Their store also carries other homemade lavender products like lotions, hand sanitizers, cookies, etc., as well as some garden décor. They also have a $ 5/bunch U-Pick for lavenders, with baskets on a table at the ready(although we couldn’t really tell how big a bunch would be; we opted against getting any for now, since we still had a while to go). I had no idea when we went that they had a cabin rental by the picturesque duck pond, but I’m sure it must be quite lovely to stay there.
