I like coming here for happy hour. Good drink and food specials. I love their garlic fries and calamari!

Alicia at the lounge did an excellent job taking care of all our group. She was attentive and quick in responding to everyone’s needs. She is a great ambassador for this establishment!

weekday lunch and sprinkling of customers in business attire… whimsical danish windmill building with inside décor to match… service is bit sluggish, but friendly… tables plenty and mostly empty… order of diet coke $ 2.99 with bottomless refills… taking the rueben sandwich marked as a favorite $ 11.99 and sweet potato fries upgrade $ 1.95…crispy orange sweet potato fries with a ultra soft sweet center… rueben bit heavy on the sauerkraut and thin on on the pastrami… thicker slicing of meat griddled brown. bread nicely browned on all sides… a decent sandwich with good sweet potato fries…$ 21.41 after tax and tip…

The drinks are great, the food is also quite good and the bar tender Alicia is amazing! I travel a lot for business and when in the Fresno area I recommend hitting the spike and rail for a relaxing wind down. The biggest down side and my only complaint is who closes a great bar at 10pm even on a Friday??? Can’t say enough about the service and ambiance but seriously folks keep the dang bar open till at least 11 or 12 in the weekends at least. When traveling out of town this is the only respite weary travelers get from the harsh road travels. When traveling up from manhattan beach I choose the spike and rail for my down time, but please please consider the weary traveler and stay open a little later for the thirsty masses.

The smoked tri tip is the best! Order the Tri Tip salad with homemade vinaigrette. If you request it more on the rare side you won’t regret it… Also, you can’t beat the burgers! Thick beef patties that melt in your mouth :)

so i went back today to give them another chance, and again i am disappointed. i walked in at 910am and there were only 2 tables being served. As we walked in, another couple came in behind us as well. We got our table, and 2 min later a guy got our drink order and brought it back fast. By 927 no one came and took our order. Remember that the 2 other tables were already eating so their staff had nothing to do. As i personally got up to go find someone to assist us, i saw the waitress taking the couples order that came in after us. Im sooo pissed off about this place. 2 times in a row we have had horrible service. Why bother coming here if this always happens. It was never like this before, and now its gone down hill with service…

The BESTSTEAKEVER! The rib eye steak here melts in your mouth, I can’t believe that such a great place exists right here just off highway 99. My servers name was Tim, he and all the employees here are super nice and provide a relaxing atmosphere. This is my new local fave… We live 45 minutes from here and this place is totally worth the drive.

It’s all hipe, close to Holiday Inn prices are way to high for Selma, we had family come from Arizonia so we thought we would have lunch there but even there lunch menu was mid to high $$ per person. Food is okay nothing special

I have been staying at the Holiday Inn here in Selma for 7 months because of work. I really love the connivence of the Spike N Rail next to the hotel. The restaurant and bar staff are top notch in my view. Real attentive and food is very good. All of the servers do a fantastic job in my opinion. Especially Kari and Alicia the bartenders.

Worst restaurant ever . Bartenders don’t know how to make cocktails. Food was awful. Keeping it simple and brief. Dont come here

I ordered a clam chowder to go. They gave me a fork knife and napkin in a setting but it didnt come with a spoon. I went back in and asked for a spoon. They still gave me a fork. I told her this isnt a spoon. I need a spoon. How hard is it to get a damn spoon? The lady asked if i was staying at the hotel i said no i just want damn spoon and she asked what do i need it for i said for soup. I finally got my spoon after all that. Im like wtf!

Yeah, so I have been here before, and its always been a meh type experience. Tonight was no different, actually it was probably the worst. I get there around 5pm, I see servers walking all over the place, 2 at the front area. I am just standing there, waiting to be seated and everyone just looks at me and walks away. Finally one guy stopped long enough to seat me. I sit down and ask for water. He walks away, my server immediately shows up hands me my water and asks if I am ready to order, I haven’t even looked at my menu yet. I tell her I am still looking. Then she disappears. Finally she comes back, I order the chicken artichoke mushroom dish. And I wait, and wait… I am the ONLY person eating in there at this time. Finally my waitress comes back, and informs me that the bread is still in the oven and would I still like it once its done.(umm yes please, thats the one thing thats typically good!) Then another 10 minutes later my dinner arrives, and my bread shortly after. One note, the bread was DELICIOUS!!! There is nothing better than fresh bread out of the oven. Sadly, that was the only thing that was good. My chicken breast was hard, tough and full of gristle. I seriously think I chipped a tooth on a boneless chicken breast. The garlic mashed potatoes, were lacking garlic, dry plain and had nothing, no gravy from the chicken, nothing. The vegetables were cold and damn near raw uncooked. Also, my waitress only showed up if she saw me put food in my mouth. I swear she waited until I was chewing to ask if I needed anything or how it was. Yeah, next time I am skipping this place, I get free breakfast, but I think I will find a Starbucks in the morning.

Very average food for breakfast. I Ate cold waffles waiting for coffee. Service was polite but indifferent. Getting a glass of water took 15 minutes. Getting a coffee refill took asking 3 times. This will be a Last Resort if I return at all.

Our waitress was wonderful and we instantly had drinks and she took our order. The food was very reasonably priced and was delicious! This is really great place to eat and spend time. Their is a pond outside with outside seating. Their water fowl are fun to watch while eating. Great selection of food with plenty to offer for all. Good for all age groups.

They changed their menu. It used to be a lot better. They decreased their quality it seems. Service quality is a hit and miss. Sometimes it’s good sometimes it’s mediocre. It’s not what it used to be that’s for sure.

I had only been here once before, and that was only for a Christmas party, in December 2011. We weren’t able to order off the menu, we just made 1 selection out of the 2 items they offers, so I never saw the menu. Fast forward to the present, I received an email from Groupon offering a deal for Spike n Rail. I checked out their menu and looked at Unilocal reviews and decided to buy one. At the time Groupon was offering a $ 10 off deal, so I purchased a $ 40 Groupon for $ 80 toward our meal of 4 or more people. Considering I got the $ 10 I only paid $ 30 and got $ 50 worth of free food. The deal definitely paid off. We were greeted upon entering and was seated immediately. Now I will point out that our waitress was not very personable at all and at times seemed catatonic, but she did get our food and drinks w/out any problem. We ordered the Ortega Chile Bacon Cheese Fries as an app. They came out after a few minutes piping hot. The fries were nice and crispy(shoe string style), there was plenty of melty cheese, bacon and Ortega chiles. The fries were gone in a few short minutes, not a crumb left on the plate. They also brought us bread, which tasted homemade, and we used it to disk up any flavor left from the fries. The menu is pretty appealing to every palate, but they mostly cater to steak/BBQ lovers. There were a few choices that had me going back and forth, but I eventually settled on the Sizzling Sirloin. The steak comes on a sizzling skillet w/onions, bell peppers, garlic and mushrooms. I had to ask for mine to be prepared w/out the mushrooms due to an allergy and they honored that request. I have been to plenty places where I ask for something to be left off, not to be picky– but rather due to an allergy, and my food still comes out w/it. So that was a big plus in my book. The steak came out and was cooked exactly how I ordered it, medium-well, and was full of flavor. My husband ordered the Bacon Wrapped Sirloin, and my kids had ordered the kids ribs. Everything was hot and delicious. After our meal we purchased a chocolate cake dessert, and it was enough to feed 4. There was so much chocolate, it was actually too much for me, I could only take a few bites. After leaving there, we decided that we would be returning due to the great meal that we had received. Had we made the decision solely on the service we probably wouldn’t have been back. I am glad we went back. On our next visit we were celebrating my birthday. It took a little while to get seated, but it was ok cause it was a busy Saturday night. Our waiter, Julio, was absolutely AMAZING, he was very courteous and attentive. He kept our drinks refilled, kept checking on us and was very polite. My grandma told him that it was my birthday, so I figured that they’d embarrass me w/a song and give me an ice cream or something like that. I was surprised when Julio came out w/a candle in a martini glass. He said he wanted to do something special for me so he brought me a Birthday-tini. I thought that was very sweet, even if I do not drink alcohol. To me it was a very kind gesture and one I appreciated. Not to be a party popper I did take a sip or two and then shared w/my husband. All in all the food is on par w/the service and this will be one of my regular go to spots for a good place to eat and friendly service. Next time I’ll ask to be seated in his area, if possible, cause I just can’t say enough about how well he took care of us. I almost forgot to add that our party ordered the Tri-tip sandwich, and fish n chips, which were also very yummy. Their menu is pretty good so next time I’ll try something else, I’m sure everything is great after having sampled a few of their dishes.

Very bad experience… We helped ourselves to choose a table on the patio… We have been waiting more than 15 minutes… Nobody showed up to serve us… No waiter, no waitress, nobody… And the restaurant was not that busy!!! We left and we do not regret… The other restaurant where we have been was much better!!! We will never go back.
