This location is where I first saw Lyman Whitaker wind sculptures in the late ‘80s, but that gallery has moved to the Hillside Shops. Aside from the wind sculptures, I remember the outside area as being interesting, kind of quirky and cluttered. The space’s current occupant, Renee Taylor Vue Gallery, opened in April. As I walked down the stairs to the front area where the wind sculptures are displayed I was struck by the difference in its appearance. It’s now graceful and uncluttered w/nothing to distract from the wind sculptures. They are more concentrated than they are outside the Leopold Gallery in Kansas City, but regardless of the number, en masse they are an alluring sight. I don’t remember going into the gallery before, so I have no memory of the changes inside, but it’s attractive w/clean lines and an very interesting array of jewelry, wall art and sculptures. I was greeted warmly by Jill. We chatted about the Whitaker sculptures and about Southern Oregon, which she knew well. When Alan and Jim joined me we wandered through admiring the various pieces. There were several I would have liked to take home, but it wouldn’t have been practical for a variety of reasons. Leaving, Jim and I stood for a while taking in the wind sculptures while Alan walked ahead. Even though I don’t expect to buy, I know I’ll be back to admire.
