Sushi Hana has the potential of being THE sushi bar in Sebastopol. First the terrible: Spicy Tuna hand roll was made mayonnaise. What-what?!? The poke was mixed with mayonnaise. This is NOT kosher… or Japanese for that matter. Now, the great. Shane(like the film character) is a really good sushi chef. He has a dry but quick wit. His presentations were fantastic. The fish was fresh and the variety was large. He even made oyster shooters for us to start the evening. Glad we sat at the sushi bar. The décor is borderline dive bar, greasy spoon, but in a GOOD way. This place has character. We ordered maki, nigiri and sashimi. It was all very good. I was pleasantly surprised to discover they had Sapporo Bombers. I have not had one in years. While they do not have a full bar(sushi and martinis is AWESOME), the selection of premium sakes was nice. Four of us ate and drank to excess for about $ 140. This was great value for money. And, except for the hand roll, this place NAILED it.

Since my last review the service has been 100% better! Still absolutely love their food, and now that they have improved on costumer service it’s perfection :)

Horrible service. Waited 15 minutes before even seeing our waiter and another 45 minutes went by before we realized we were not going to see our food any time soon. After bringing our water we never saw another employee. After an hour of waiting and seeing that there were people there before us who also had not received their food we decided to cancel our order and walk out. We are never coming here again and will be sure to steer everyone we know away from coming here.

I’ve eaten here numerous times. The prices have gone up substanially even on the«dollar» sushi days where essentially nothing is a dollar. Even so it is very busy on dollar days and their lack of an ability to make reservations makes getting a table difficult. The food is good I recommend the spicy tuna roll and the crazy milk sake.

This place is pretty good. Although I’m off fish(I mostly love heavy mercury fish like Tuna so it’s a no go for me right now) because of pregnancy and well, the uhem… environment issues, I really enjoy the seasame chicken, the salads, and the miso. I mostly try to avoid soy because of sensitivities, however, on the occasion I do enjoy a good dosing, lol. The service is always great, they are always packed(pretty good sign to me usually), and I never leave hungry.

My first experience at this local gem was a good one. There was a bit of a wait to get a seat but it was a Saturday so I understand. The service was friendly and quick. I tried the lemonade on a friend’s recommendation and it was maybe the best I’ve ever had. I continued my adventurous streak by ordering the golden gate roll – it was baked and delicious. All in all, a delightful experience!

My wife loved this place years ago, but after moving we hadn’t been back until last month. Now they have this super slick Sake tasting room and the place is twice as big. They have a cool Japanese Cherry Blossom Tree like from Kill Bill. The guy at the Sake bar knew his sake for sure. The server who helped us there was great. We ordered at the bar and sushi was the best. We had reservations, which looking back I wish we stayed at the bar, because we were having such a good time, but none the less, the restaurant area was like it had been years ago. The food was fantastic, servers great. The place is comfortable — looking forward to going back

What a great find! We walked in and it was Saturday special day, we both tried a few pices and only spent $ 25. The seared tuna was melt in your mouth amazing!

This restaurant had teenagers running the front of the house and sushi bar, and it showed itself in the food and service. Sushi rice was dense and over cooked. Wait staff was non-present during the meal — empty water glasses for 50% of the time in the restaurant. And then just to put a cherry on top, we could not get a bill to get out for 10 minutes. Felt like we were prisoners.

They were PACKED on Saturday night and there was a bit of a wait, about 10 minutes. Waitresses all had their hands full so it was no surprise that our sushi took a while to arrive. Veggie tempura was made quickly and it was nothing short of epic. I can say, with no exaggeration, that it was the best I’ve ever had– a marvelous assortment of fresh veggies, cut unusually large, the batter fried to crispy golden perfection. The dipping sauce was very mild but tasty. «For 10 bucks,» I thought, «this tempura had better deliver.» And deliver it certainly did. I was a little underwhelmed by my kappa maki. The rice was good but the roll was rather thin, much smaller than I would make it at home. That said, my dinner companion’s sushi looked excellent so I may have just ordered the wrong thing. I will definitely be going back at some point, if for nothing else but more of that luscious tempura. The sweet potato and pumpkin maki looked interesting as well, and I hear they run impressive lunch specials.

We ordered sushi to-go. We were told it would be 10 – 15 minutes, but I showed up after 15 or 20 minutes and still had to wait another half an hour! It was about 45 min. total wait time I think. The wait staff were fairly nice. I hadn’t had their sushi for a couple of years. I thought it was a special(cheap sushi!) night also, but I didn’t know you had to eat there for the specials to apply(I couldn’t find any info on this on their website). I was OK with that though, I could have asked first. Anyway, I finally got home to eat the sushi and it was not very good. I really didn’t like the miso soup(to me it tasted like really strong and salty bullion, with too large uncooked green onion slices), so I didn’t finish it; the sushi was also pretty tasteless, for the most part, and had an unusual squishier than usual texture(maybe like the rice had too much water or something?). Overall, we were disappointed. It was edible and one or two rolls were alright, but the rest of the food and experience was not too great. I don’t think we will be back.

We love Sushi Hana and we keep ordering the same three rolls: Dragon, Matsuri and Sushi Tempura. For us these are 5 star rolls. The service can be slow and amateurish, however it’s always friendly. Parking is easy in the lot across the street.

For restaurants, I have to go multiple times before I review them because I think restaurants deserve a couple of chances. I have tried Sushi Hana about ten times. However, this was the last time I am willing to give them a chance. The tempura came out and it was clear that it had not been fried in hot enough oil because multiple parts were uncooked or soggy but it only got worse from there. The sushi came out and the rice was sickly sweet and more of a mush than rice. My friend ordered eggplant sushi and the eggplant was not cooked well. I could not make it through my dinner nor could my friend or my mother. We waited 15 minutes for the check and finally it was clear no one was coming over to us so I got up to pay. After telling her how awful the rice was and that we only ate one piece from each roll, she was like, «oh, no one complained today about it today.» I was like, did they complain yesterday? Finally they took two of the rolls off but it was still far too expensive for awful food. Do yourself a favor and go to Sushi Tozai in Sebastopol.

Not good. Went today for lunch, and I didn’t even finish mine. The sushi rice is grossly sweet. And the kitchen is extremely slow.

Went here for lunch today for the first time, received awesome service and tried some delicious and unique rolls. You can definitely get things that aren’t tempura and there are lots of vegetarian options. They also had an amazingly cheap Wednesday special with the most expensive item being $ 3.50! Definitely worth a visit, if not multiple !

I think I’ve given Sushi Hana more than enough tries. Every experience I have is either negative or mediocre. I live a mile away so the convenience is great but from now on I’ll drive to Santa Rosa if I want a more positive and consistent sushi meal. I came for dinner and ordered a rainbow roll for $ 12.50. While there was nothing wrong with it in particular it lacked taste and visually was not very pleasing. I imagined some beautifully cut and colorful fish atop my sushi roll but was given big hacked up pieces of their cheapest fish on a smaller than usual roll. Service is always pretty sub par as well. Not too friendly but not completely unfriendly. My friend asked for a side of siracha hot sauce and when they gave us the bill they had charged us 1 $ for a little side dish of it. Wow. Stingy much? Also, edamame for 4 $ give me a break. There are so many better sushi restaurants in Sonoma County and I suggest making the 10 – 15 minute drive to one of those instead.

Love Tempura? Eat here. My boyfriend, the Seb local, has been dragging me here since we started driving up on the weekends. We are huge fans. The place itself is pretty small. Dinner can be a nightmare depending on when you go. I’ve waited for as long as 30 minutes for a table. Honestly, it was worth it. Saturdays – this is THEPLACETOBE. Their lunch menu on Saturdays(and I believe Wednesdays, too) are UH-MAY-ZING. You can sample a variety of their rolls from this menu. The Tempura is INSANELYCHEAP. Delicious, too! Call in ahead of time if you plan going for dinner*

I loved this place! I usually don’t give out 5 stars(I’m a tough cookie) but if I could give out a 4.5 I definitely would. This place exceeded my expectations and as I sit here in my bedroom I wish we would have ordered extra to go just so I could experience the sushi again. We had a $ 35 gift card and excitingly, my husband and I along with his sister came to get dinner today, Saturday. They have awesome specials on Saturdays and we ended up only paying around $ 61 with tip for 6 rolls and a chicken katsu for my sister in law. It wasn’t too bad. We got the Spicy Crunchy Roll, a California Roll, the Bodega Bay Roll, a Spicy Tuna Roll, the Facebook Roll and and the Rock and Roll. Although they were all delicious, the Bodega Bay roll and the Spicy roll were my favorites and must orders for next time. They all rocked my taste senses and the heavens parted and okay maybe not the second part but I was impressed with the quality, tastiness and great value. The side salad that comes with the meals was also delicious and unique. I do believe it had melon and cucumber? Tasty. The ambiance was also different and not in a bad way. The place is cozy and the décor a little odd-ball for a Sushi restaurant but I digged the vibe and location. The service was good. The waiter accomadated our requests well. The only reason why I must deduct a star is the rolls fell apart easily and made it hard to dip pieces in soy sauce. Although the presentation was beautiful I dislike it when my pieces fall apart. Also, the green tea was not up to par. But all in all we will be back. SOON!
