My son has been taking classes at this dojo for over two years now and loves it! The instructors are exceptional: a just-right blend of focused, serious teaching plus some fun and games to keep the kids enthusiastic in every class. Each student attends semi-private lessons according to their schedule, where you get lots of careful attention in very small groups. The instructors are very helpful in organizing your schedule around school hours, other sport practices, vacations, etc. They also have some very well-run and fun community events like tournaments, Ninja Night for kids, and special classes in basic self-defense, etc. Sensei Andrew just taught a basic karate class with some Stranger Danger tips to a large group of kids at our kids camp and it was great! The kids were all ages, so it took some skill to keep them on track, but Sensei Andrew taught some basic strikes and blocks plus some common sense safety tips for kids to practice and discuss with their parents. I highly recommend Z-Ultimate Ballard if you are interested in learning martial arts.

My wife & kids have been attending classes there for 4 years — and we love it. The instructors know what they are doing, especially with the young ones. My children look forward to going — which is saying something. They know how to direct and focus even the youngest of children, doing everything to ensure that they learn respect and patience as well as martial arts. As for adult learners: the senseis are excellent with them as well. I can’t say enough about how much we like everything about the dojo. It is fun, convenient, and educational. It’s a very welcoming environment, and the material taught is a combo of traditional forms and practical self defense techniques. The fees include group classes as well as a private lesson each week, which is what sets this dojo apart from most. According to my wife: «The private lessons are immensely helpful for beginners, for mastering a particularly difficult technique, or for advancing more quickly if you have had prior experience with martial arts. As much as I enjoy and would recommend the adult classes, my kids(ages 7 and 11) love the kids’ classes as well. I have seen a tremendous improvement in both their physical skills and their behavior since they started, and they are genuinely excited to go to every class. Plus, the location is great — there is a garage for parking, and I can run next door to Trader Joe’s to pick up groceries while the kids are in class.»

$ 175 a month for two 1hr group sessions and one 30 minute private lesson a week. The instructors work so well with children & adults. They really work well with your availability when scheduling classes. Kudos for kind instructors, tough lessons, &AIRCONDITIONING! ahhhhhhh :}

My 7 yr old son has been going there for a few months and he loves it! He says, «it’s exercise with fun, and it gives me focus.» We’ve been very impressed with how Sensei Jennifer and her team teach the kids karate skills and a focus that permeates into the rest of his life. The Ninja Dollars keep the kids motivated to behave well in class and my son loves adding the patches to his karate clothes! Thank you, Sensei Jennifer!

I have been a student here for a while and find Sensei Jennifer’s method of teaching Kempo to be incredibly effective. Since the dojo offers private lessons, it is much easier for students to get more one-on-one attention from the instructor. The facility is spacious and well-maintained. Highly recommended!
