Formerly the A&B Café, this place has a really interesting menu including a western style breakfast with egg sandwiches, and Hong Kong style menu items like beef in black pepper sauce over spaghetti and ketchup rice! The food was homestyle and tasty, and many of these items are uncommon on Seattle menus. The walls are covered with pages of add-on menu items in Chinese, so if you can’t read Chinese, you’ll either have to ask, or do what I do and just point at one and order it blind. This is a more adventurous option, but I recommend it. I would give this a 5 if the service was a little tighter. The people are very nice, but the person taking out order left in the middle to answer the phone, and we had to wait a while for our check. Definitely not deal breakers, but I take 5 stars seriously!

It’s easy to be confused because the awning says A&B Café(the previous restaurant), but Y&A Café is the new one. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, and I’ve never seen more than 3 tables occupied, but their food is really good! Definitely my go-to place when the ID is really busy during festivals, as I hate waiting in lines. It’s a quiet place that serves Hong Kong style food as well as French fries, and does the crispiest yao zha guai(Chinese doughnut) in town. My grandfather loves to go there, and it brings me pleasant memories of HK.

I was unsure at first as the exterior’s not so welcoming, but once inside all was well. New since 8⁄2015 Y&A Café specializes in Hong Kong café style & South China foods. We took a bit of time deciding as the menu is big. We decided on the pork stomach & minced beef congee, and the salt and pepper chicken wings. The meat in the congee was very tender, perfect texture and flavor all around, highly recommended especially with a doughnut. The salt and pepper chicken wings, be careful as they come out very hot. Once they’ve cooled off a bit, the fried garlic and green chili peppers give this dish an exclamation point! Everything was flavorful and addictive, the girl working was nice to talk too and easy on the eyes. I look forward to our next visit in the very near future. Almost forgot, we got out only paying about 12 bucks, we were full and happy, prices are excellent.
