TT Minor Playground

This place pretty much has it all: a couple of different-​sized jungle gyms, a track, big field for dogs and frisbee, and a basketball court for games and bike-​riding practice. It’s a great venue to relax and watch a slice of Cap Hill/​CD go by too as people cut across to get home, or to the Trader Joe’s a couple blocks away.
There’s a small 20-​ish car parking lot that’s never completely full so parking has never been a problem.
I’ve never felt unsafe walking through this place after dark. It’s well-​maintained and well-​lit and my daughter and I have enjoyed many a sunny afternoon running around. The park is situated as such that you get a nice chunk of the downtown skyline as well.
It definitely doesn’t hurt that Tougo Coffee and Skillet are mere minutes away by foot, too.
Overall, a peaceful little area on top of Union.

I was so thrilled to find this place, because I have a very energetic puppy who needs to run and play for at least half an hour every evening. Capitol Hill/​Central District is missing a good dog park/​off-​leash area, and I was really getting tired of going to Magnuson 3 – 4 times/​week after work!
So I’m really grateful that the people who run this school allow us neighborhood dog owners to let our dogs off-​leash here in the evenings. The dogs tend to be pretty well-​behaved and socialized, and the other owners are friendly. My dog loves it here and has made a bunch of «dog pals.»
A few notes for dog-​owners: the best time to come here is generally between 5:30 and 7:00 on weekday evenings. One thing to note is that the north entrance is open to the street, so if you have a dog that likes to run off, this may not be the safest park. Also, there’s no separation between the grass area where the dogs hang out and the playground, so you do have to watch your dogs to make sure they don’t jump up on/​bother the kids (… my puppy may be guilty of attempting this — I always bring treats to lure him away …).

this is a private elementary school whose grounds turn into a nice little neighborhood playground/​off leash dog park after hours and on weekends for the locals. fully fenced and the school doesn’t mind the field being used by the pups so long as their owners are respectful and clean up after their pets. it’s handy because it’s close to us and folks are super friendly. our obnoxious puppy is a regular and def approves.

The T.T. Minor Playfield has two big climbing structures, lots of paved space for kids learning to ride their bikes/​scooters/​roller skates &c, and a big grassy field for throwing frisbee or kicking around the soccer ball. Attached to a decommissioned middle school, this playfield is now maintained by the Seattle Parks & Recreation. Smaller than Cal Anderson Park and bigger than Spring Street Mini-​Park, it’s a clean, quiet, safe piece of recreational urban green space and a real neighborhood asset.
