Love the atmosphere in this place. We always stop by here when we bar hop and wanna watch a playoff game. I love there salmon risotto! And I’ve also tried their fish and chips. The fish and chips are a big too greasy for me. Great place for drinks and good company. Its also very convenient since its across the street from Seattle U!

Update: They let a drunk customer stand by the door and act like a bouncer and be rude. Got kicked out for being a ducks fan/getting there at 1:30, right after last call. Bouncer(now aware was drunk customer) was very rude about being in Ducks gear after a Huskies loss and said that’s why he wouldn’t let us in. On a normal night this place is okay and has a cool spot out back, there’s just not many people that go here on a typical night. When Rhein Haus is packed though this place is a fun spot because a lot of people spill over. Good dive bar.

The chieftain sucks. The bartenders are assholes and they make weak ass drinks on top of that. There’s way better bars in the area to go to. Don’t waste your time there.

I think this place is in business mostly because of the overflow from the bar next door. The drinks are affordable, but it’s almost always a little too vacant. The bouncer I’ve seen every time I’ve been is pretty rude and loves hitting on the girls half his age. I know I’ll return, but I always try and get into the adjacent bar first.

Great spot overall, lovely staff, food and atmosphere. Server was friendly, attentive and full of personality. Wings delicious, sandwiches fresh and fries crispy. We’ll be back when we’re in the area again.

Mehhhhhhh. A large group of us came here on a Monday night thanks to the allure of an all-day HH. Unfortunately, the best thing that can be said about the place is that it was remarkably easy to find seating for 10 people, and that was very convenient. After unsuccessfully waiting 30 minutes for a server to come by, we gave up and went to the bar to order beers. Another 45 minutes went by, and a server still never appeared. Up to the bar we went again to order our sandwiches. I had the pesto chicken sandwich. It was decent – nothing to rave about, nothing I couldn’t stomach, but filling enough and fine for $ 10. The Chieftain is most certainly a bro bar, with a healthy dose of local college students frequenting it. Their tap selection is also nothing noteworthy. HH beers are $ 4 apiece, but you can get much better beer for a similar price elsewhere. Stay away unless you have absolutely no choice in the matter.

I dig it. Great food, good beer, comfortable ambiance. It’s a bit rare to find a place on the hill that can serve a mean dinner with their drinks, but they won’t let you down. They specialize in my fav food group: fried, and in large servings. Sign me up! I suppose the servers can be a bit elusive or standoffish, but they’ve been friendly every time I’ve been here. So I may have to go up and order at the bar on occasion. Not exactly gonna ruin my night, ya know? I’ve lost a good number of hours just chatting with friends and kicking back here. The music varies often, which is amusing because you never know if you’ll be grooving to folk or in last night’s case, some throwback 90s rap. Good stuff. I can easily recommend this place, unless you want a really loud, huge place with a ton of people. Then, uh, I suggest the place next door.

Not bad– it’s close to SU which is always a nice thing. The food seems to be a little overpriced for what it is but trivia nights on Tuesdays are fun!!!

Wow, came in and found a spot to watch the Sounders game and do some work. Lady bar tender said guy on floor, Alan, would put game on. Presuming he would also be my server, I went to the back to standing table and popped open my notebook to work a bit. Nice place yet I stood/sat for 40 minutes before he asked if I needed anything, oh and it waa some other guy who just came on. Yet Alan happily brought menus and took order from two other fellas that sat in the back. So yeah, that guy certainly didnt need my patronage. Whatever dude.

It’s a decent dive bar. The service was a bit slow, but the people were very polite and friendly. And seemed a little quiet for a Friday night, but the atmosphere was cool and relaxed.

You will find law students here all the time because this is their go-to to drink and get wasted. I am not one of them, just for the record. Chieftain has good appetizers such as Tachos(tater tot version of nachos with all the guac and other crap on it), mozzarella cheese sticks, and wings. Their drinks are pretty standard, but I especially like their nitro stout that they sometimes have on their rotating tap. Summers are nice because they have an outside area in the back that you and your friends can sit. If you want to stay away from the loud BGM and TV, you can also sit in the front area near the front door. The back room has a pool table if you want to shoot pool; when private events are going on there, the servers will put the plates of food on the pool table. Some tips: Monday is happy hour all day, which means $ 5 appetizers and some discounted drinks. Tuesdays attract large crowds because Chieftain has Trivia Night at 8pm. If your team wins, I think you get $ 50 off your party’s tab, $ 25 if you get second. My friends and I have never won anything from Trivia Night every time we went, so I don’t bother to go anymore.

I haven’t been too happy with the service lately. Whenever my friends and I go in these days(we got a lot), we always expect bad service. Some of the staff are better than others, but there are a couple who 9 times out of 10 forget about us, our orders, our drinks, or the most common occurrence(though least bothersome), our waters. Had to ask for water 3 times once before it was brought. The staff really needs to write the orders down and they don’t. We had a party of ten once and the guy took our orders by memory. One of the dishes came out WAY before everyone else, 7 came together, and 2 were forgotten completely until reminded. Once reminded, only one came out. The other was brought out after the check was paid and we were all standing up to leave. The kicker is we were still forced to tip 18% because of the auto-tipping on a 10 person table. If we didn’t live like right next door to this place, I doubt we’d ever actually go there. The food is good, but the service just leaves a little bit of a sour taste in my mouth after so many bad service experiences. The manager(s) there really need to step up and handle their staff better or they might start losing more and more customers.

Chieftain is the business! Their drinks are ridiculously on point and the staff is really nice and courteous. The Chieftain is a great Irish pub that has an awesome happy hour and great menu to go with it. Late nights are awesome there and their breakfast menu is really good to. The chieftain serves breakfast Saturday and Sunday mornings as well. They have a brunch menu but I personally love their all day breakfast menu. One of their options is called a Blarney Stone breakfast burrito. I especially like this order because it comes with their Crispy tots on the side. I know it’s a pain in the ass and I almost always apologize every time I ask for it but I always get it with 2 over easy eggs on top and a side of sausage gravy. The staff is very understanding of my «neediness» and makes me feel comfortable for my ridiculous order. Being a college student it’s hard to find places that have good prices and great food and drinks to go with it. Chieftain is this place I’ve been searching for. Chieftain has deals everyday and is a great place to watch any sport events. Thanks chieftain you are the best!

Service is horrible, servers are rude and slow. They seem to hate it when a group of people show up to watch a soccer game and spend 100s of dollars!!! Weird! I felt like we bothered them because they had to take food orders and pour drinks. With all the bars around, this place is to be avoided. They also refused to turn down the music and put TV commentary for the soccer game.

Ok. They need more servers. Quite simple. Especially dying Monday night football. Still here, in the middle of the main area and still after 40 minutes have not been greeted or given a menu. In a way it’s nice that I didn’t have to spend any money while getting to watch the game.

This find is the bomb! The Chieftain Irish Pub serves up Guiness at just the right temperature & Hot Wings to die for. Found it by accident after dropping off some seniors from HI to tour Seattle University. Great people working here. Service is great, beer is great & wings are great! What more could anyone ask for? On Monday’s, Happy Hour is all day long. Think my next Monday night football game will be here. Specials on Hot Wings too for the games.

Large and very loud bar and the draw was the poster outside saying ‘TALLCANOFPBRAND A SHOT, $ 5′…it drew us right in on a Sunday afternoon. We got to watch some of the Seahawks game in the back on the projection screen with lots of people and we had a fun time. The bathroom is in the very very back room and was fairly clean, thankfully. I’m sure if I am in the mood for a PBR and a shot again, I’ll come by once more.
