Drove past and says they’re closed. Decided to call and see what was up. The owner said he recently sold the business and they’re doing minor remodeling and it should be serving soon. Boo.

I’m actually still at the restaurant chilling now lol. What a great family restaurant! I ordered shrimps and meat balls udon. It sounds okay but it tastes really good. And I also ordered a sub to go. I let them decide what meat to put in it since I’d like to try something new :). I like this restaurant since the day my sister introduced it to me. And yes we know the boss of Subsand! Everytime we come here it feels more like having lunch with family than just usual customers. They always welcoming us and they are really nice people. Knowing the restaurant is closing this Saturday makes me a bit sad and so I have to come again before the last day! I don’t think this is a review anymore lol… It sounds more like a good bye comment for Subsand. Hopefully they will open again somewhere else in the future. The food quality and the passion of food are really hard to find… but I found it here in Subsand! Bye Bye Subsand. I’ll miss it!

The meat was good but they reheat it in the microwave and it’s the first vietnamese sandwich I’ve had with lettuce and tomato on it. Not what I expected.

Stopped by to pick up a sandwich to bring to the Hawks game. I got the BBQ Pork sandwich which is similar to a Bahn Mi, but not quite. What impressed me was how much care the guy put into assembling my sandwich. He lined up every ingredient carefully and evenly across the sandwich. Lettuce, carrots, tomato, cilantro and Grilled BBQ Pork topped with some kind of scallion oil, on a nice crispy french roll. It’s a quality sandwich for sure, just not a real Bahn Mi. For that go to Saigon Deli or Seattle Deli up the street. $ 5.25 for the sandwich is a decent deal for a quick meal. Extra $.50 if you use a card(under $ 10).

Per recommendations we tried the lemmongrass chicken and BBQ pork for our first trip to Subsand. Both were very good, but I liked the lemmongrass chicken a little better personally. I’m a big believer in the bread making or breaking a sandwich, and they had great crunchy sandwich rolls. The sandwiches aren’t huge, but filled be up for lunch. The veggies tasted very fresh and both the chicken and pork had very nice flavor. The fresh jalapeño might be a bit much for some people but I enjoyed it. They have a ton of options on the menu so hopefully I will get a chance to try some more!

Excellent BBQ Pork sammy! Fresh veggies, good spice w/a jalapeño. Bread had a nice toasty/crispy beginning with a soft finish. Eggs puffs are good not what I expected. Often compared to a waffle; and likewise should be served with some sort of accompaniment… caramelized bananas, a marmalade, etc. Service was fantastic! I’ll definitely return to try a noodle dish next.

Subsand is a little sandwich shop in the heart of the ID, a very short and convenient walk from the ID’s tunnel station. I stopped in here for a quick bite to eat before catching a bolt bus, and got the bbq pork sandwich. While it is a banh mi style sandwich, it isn’t advertised as a banh mi, and rightly so. While it has a lot of similar components, the bbq pork sandwich at subsand also has some extra things, like lettuce and tomato. I thought it was a really tasty and satisfying sub, but if you’re looking for a super authentic banh mi, then consider this a heads up. If you’re cool with a variation on the original, though, then the bbq pork sub at subsand is a pretty delicious sandwich in its own right. It’s very flavorful and hearty, served up with friendly service and what I think is a pretty hilarious mural of hammerhead sharks. You have to see it to believe it.

I got the combo vermicelli(bun thit nuong cha gio) and a Vietnamese ham sandwich(bang mi). Presentation is very nice. The workers are very nice. The portions are pretty good for the pricing too. The menu is all English for those that don’t know Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine. The restaurant seem to be more Chinese orientated than Vietnamese.

Egg puffs, bubble waffles, gai dan jai. However you want to call it. I’ve had plenty of bubble waffles in Hong Kong, and I dare say, this place does them right!!! I’ve only tried their original flavour. Very authentic, crispy on the outside, mochi-like chewiness on the inside. And the flavor is just right — not too sweet, not too bland. I’ve been hugely scarred by other bubble waffles in U District. I’ve learnt my lesson now. From now on, I will only come to you to get my bubble waffle fix. You have won my heart and soul.

I really like Subsand. Great sandwiches, especially the shredded chicken. The owner, Tom, is one of the nicest people ever. He speaks Vietnamese, English, Cantonese, and Mandarin(I believe), which is great if you want to bring Chinese or Vietnamese relatives. My Chinese grandparents, who consistently find something to criticize in the restaurants we go to, were so charmed that I think it was the first time I didn’t hear them say anything critical. I also can’t get enough of their egg waffles(aka egg puffs). They come in a decently long list of flavors; I think mango is my favorite so far, but I have yet to try them all!

Hankering for a sweet drink I stumbled across this place not knowing if they would have red bean drinks! And they did! Red bean and also 3 beans! Owners speak Cantonese and are super nice! They ran out of red beans halfway through making my drink and asked if I wanted to add extra green beans instead! Of coarse! But nice she asked! Took care to make sure my drink turned out delicious!

Grilled pork was awesome! Great flavor and they give you all the crunchy edge bits to go with the thick soft cuts. Comes with fried egg over rice, carrots, daikon, cucumber, lettuce and a little cup of dressing. The«Look look» beef was good, a bit heavy with the sauce, but it’s just as advertised. I really only think it was heavy cause the fried rice that the beef laid over was seasoned perfectly on it’s own. The beef is cooked and served with onion and a similar veggie«salad» on the side just a different dressing here. No condiments on the table, and none needed. Dessert menu has lots of variety, goes wait till next time though.

Very nice, indeed. I noticed a lot of customers popped in for takeout, but we grabbed a table. The service was very pleasant. We ordered a fresh roll, and BBQ pork sandwiches. The food was really quite good. I scour the city for good fresh rolls, and I think SubSand’s are some of the best. The sandwiches were really flavorful, and the veggies were fresh. The optional onions and jalapeños were excellent. The pricing seemed very reasonable for the food quality, too. What a treat to have a place like this in our city.

I should have gotten the BBQ pork sandwich, but I was just not in a sandwich mood when I walked in here. I REALLY wanted noodles. Got my order of pan-fried noodles with sate beef to-go, and when I got home, opened the container to a delicious looking/smelling dish. Too bad it pretty much disappointed. The ingredients were obviously fresh, which was a plus and how I justify a three-star rating, but the overall flavor was lacking. This sadly may have been one of the most bland Asian dishes I have ever had.

I ordered BBQ pork subsand as all Unilocalers recommended. It was very good. This restaurant appears much smaller from outside. Once you go in, it’s got quite a few seats. It could accomodate 4 – 6 people groups easily. There wasn’t much service but it wasn’t bad. Prices were a bit higher than some of the reviewers listed, but still very afforadable. I will be back.

Seattles Intl district sandwich champ? The Bbq pork subsand $ 5.25 Served on a fresh and airy long roll with an ample array of bright fresh veggies(cukes toms onion jalapeño and roughage) and a meager few slices of pork… This thing is like food porn… The roll collapses on itself… the fresh veggies are juicy and aromatic. and a salty sweet finish of bbq pork. I devoured this poor defenseless sandwich… I may go in for another!

The ingredients are fresh and tasty. They are a bit stingy with the veggies in my opinion. They charge extra for credit cards so watch out for that.

The sandwiches here are beautifully made and tastes just right. If youre looking for a budget sandwich though, this place is not for you. Im mainly writing this review for their Sweet egg puffs: D I’ve never been interested in these puffy delights since I’m not much of a sweets person. But here, they make them fluffy, warm inside, slightly crispy outside. The taste is not too sweet and perfect for my liking :) I tried the original and strawberry and like them both. I highly recommend to come here for them!

I’ve come here a few times now for their subs and it’s always a treat to watch them make your sandwich! Their take on subs are a bit more Westernized than the banh mis you’ll find at nearby Vietnamese delis. They’re different — I wouldn’t say they’re better, just different. I really love their egg waffles here, they make them fresh and they taste the best right off the grill thing. I’ve also tried their satay beef chow fun, it was OK, a bit on the greasy side and the raw onions overpowered a bit, but the beef was tasty. I’ll come back for sure because service is very friendly, and because egg waffle.

Eggettes. what more can I say? Not the best, but for the only place that sells it in Seattle, I’m satisfied. The edges were crispy and although the eggettes could be slightly more caramelized, overall it was satisfying. The owner was friendly and let us stay to eat although it was past their closing time. Also, they were cantonese, so I felt more at home. I’m curious about the other classic Hong Kong desserts they have! Definitely interested in stopping by again :)
