Sub Pop Records

It’s cool to have a Sub Pop outpost at Sea-​Tac, especially selling vinyl.
What isn’t cool is the $ 7.00+tax for 45 singles and $ 21.00+tax for Flight of the Conchords LP… bit spendy, yunno?
Anyway, I did it… happy to have done so, but still feel a bit queasy about it… kinda like eating Burger King… and won’t do it again.
Clerks in the store were friendly and professional.

There’s a Sub Pop store inside of SeaTac? WAT???
Considering Sub Pop’s iconic punk rock history, a company store inside of a major international airport … well, I’m still trying to reconcile that in my mind. Of course, Sub Pop as a punk record label and iconic institution of the Seattle underground music scene is obviously just a historical anecdote now. It’s all mainstream!!!1 PUNK IS DEAD!!1!
Still, considering Sub Pop’s considerable fingerprint on Seattle cultural history, it is cool to see a company store that proudly celebrates that legacy. Even if it is in the airport. It’s a nice, well-​kept store — as you’d expect an airport store to be and has various selections from Sub Pop’s grunge past as well as their current roster and other current indie artists as well. I was surprised to see as much Pearl Jam-​related goods in there, considering Pearl Jam’s history with Sub Pop, but I guess as long as it’s Seattle, it’s all good.
When you think of iconic, city aligned punk record labels of the past, I think of Sub Pop and Seattle, SST and LA, Matador and NYC, and so on. It’s weird to see Sub Pop so cleaned up and nice now, but I guess that’s what age will do to you.

Anything and everything is Sub Pop! It’s downright comical. So much awesomeness going on here I don’t even know how to deal. An ultimate gift shop for those who love the music from an era long ago but not yet forgotten. Get your Nirvana, Mudhoney, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and other «grunge» merchandise, records, c.d.‘s, cassette tapes (ya you heard me) and other useless trinkets here at a somewhat questionably reasonable rate! The hype is real. So go along with it! Lol

Well, as far as Airport Record Stores go, this one is as good as it gets!
Sub Pop records has had a crazy and long history that you can fully explore in this shop.
They have just about every record they ever released here, including 7 inches and singles.
Books, posters, some really cool T-​shirts and sweatshirts.
This is a must for any true music fan. Plenty of stuff to check out if you have some time to kill.
Lucky for my wife we only had 20 minutes so all I got was record slip cover. I could have easily spent an hour or two more snooping around if our flight had not been moved earlier.
Oh well, another reason to return to Seattle.

Sub Pop is one of Seattle’s greatest exports. Marrying into a Pacific Northwestern family, I’ve been exposed to my fair share of Sub Pop lore. An emerald from 1988. Their catch-​phrase: We’re not the best. But we’re pretty good. Have you heard a record label be so humble?!
This outpost in the Seattle-​Tacoma International Airport is a fresh find, and the only one of its kind. It’s a must-​stop in Terminal 2, especially if you want something really Pacific Northwestern and a part of Seattle history — beyond Bigfoot /​Sasquatch and boxed salmon.
The décor and design here is thoughtfully local and rustic with bohemian chic and punk rock and lumberjack splashed about. Find the sticker packs! There are polaroids stuck up near the registers with snapshots of Eddie Vedder and Dave Grohl stopping in to this exact location.
The portable turntables in the back are situated on a huge plank of wood for seating and headphones so you can sample a bit before purchasing. There are great coffee table books here, too.
An iconic label with incredible music and a variety of bands. Sub Pop is the force behind beloved musical beauties like Sleater-​Kinney (Carrie Brownstein’s band!), Sunny Day Real Estate, Iron & Wine, Mudhoney, Nirvana (!!!), The Shins, Soundgarden (side note: I’ve seen Kim Thayil all over town when I lived in Seattle), TAD, Sebadoh, The Murder City Devils, Hot Hot Heat, The Postal Service, David Cross, Modest Mouse, Flight of the Conchords, Fleet Foxes (one of my favorites!), Beach House, Washed Out, The Head and the Heart, Dum Dum Girls, Band of Horses, METZ, Rose Windows (my friend’s!), The Helio Sequence, Green River, Avi Buffalo, Screaming Trees, L7, The Vaseline’s, Coco Rosie, Damien Jurado, Beat Happening, etc. Even San Francisco’s own, Vetiver.
The hoodies, pull overs, glasses, stickers and patches are easy to transport during your travels, too. I’m crazy about their tape cassettes.

I wish that there was one somewhere other than the airport, but this is a rad store. Prices are moderate considering it is at an airport. Opens early so, you can visit on your way to or from Seattle. Iconic record label. Get records, merch, etc. I love some of the Seattle themed stuff. I was able to get a souvenir that said subpop, Seattle, and Washington. Nice staff!

I know it’s a little on-​the-​nose to have a Sub Pop shop in SeaTac but I’m so glad it’s here! We had time to kill waiting for our flight home to Boston and this store provided a very welcome respite during those hours. The tunes playing are great, the inventory of music and other swag is vast, and the staff are awesome. Definitely swing by here if yu have some time to kill at SeaTac, it’s so worth it!

Saw this store on my way to baggage claim at SeaTac. I always remember Sub Pop from the Nirvana days and when I used to read all about those Sub Pop bands in Melody Maker, NME, and Select magazine.
If I had more time, I would’ve looked around more. They seemed to have a great selection of things including albums and memorabilia. I picked up three postcards as souvenirs.

I’d forgotten that Sub Pop had opened a gift shop in the SeaTac airport until I just recently went on a trip and got a chance to check it out. I think our Seattle airport has better-​than-​average shopportunities for travelers, and this store is a fine addition to the selection. Even if you’re not a Sub Pop music fan, it’s worth checking this shop out for its cute postcards, art prints, and Seattle-​themed stuff with a more tasteful twist.
Of course, this store is primarily for Sub Pop stuff, so front and center you’ll find CDs and records, T-​shirts and hats, and music-​themed books. The record selection is quite large and vinyl lovers should definitely take a look — the stock includes comedy and spoken-​word stuff as well as Sub Pop’s own albums.
In addition, you’ll find some stylish/​edgy jewelry (though it’s expensive), cute pouches and bags, a range of very nice and artsy Seattle and Washington art prints and cards, and local Theo chocolate and snacks. Prices are a little high, but if you need a last-​minute gift or souvenir and want to avoid the awful tourist junk, you can find some very respectable presents that don’t even look like they came from the airport! And everyone who visits Seattle should try Theo chocolate before they leave.
Another fun store in the main terminal area that will help you kill time until your flight and/​or pick up any gifty items you might need before departing Seattle.

I had the same reaction that Dave did in Sonic Highways when I walked into the store in the airport… WTF? I am a fan of the label, however, it did weird me out that there was a souvenir store dedicated to this label. It seemed as classless and cheesy as a Hard Rock Café gift shop. I picked up a button for home ’cause it seemed like the least cringe-​worthy item to buy. Welcome to sell out store. I will admit that they do win points by carrying actual music, just the merchandising of their other items made me go WTF? I will be honest in saying that they staff I dealt with were really friendly and some shared the same sentiment. A few of the people who work there are from famous Seattle bands back in the day, therefore, it was a little star struck moment for me.

This is a great store in the airport that opened within the last year. If I had more room in my carry-​on the other day, I definitely would have made some purchases because the store had some great posters, t-​shirts, records, and souvenirs for sale. The store was clean, well organized, and stocked.
This is not your typical airport store.

I had no idea this place was in the airport. It’s huge and it’s got A TON of cool stuff to look at, even if you’re just window shopping. I’m from the area, and I left here looking like a tourist. Also, the people who work here are actual Sub Pop worker bees… not your typical impersonal airport worker drones. Me gusta MUCHO.

How happy I was to be boarding a plane back home to LA after a long (and yes, literally Sleepless) week exploring Seattle and other surrounding parts of Washington! Not so happy however, about finding out I missed my flight, paying to switch flights, and being stuck at the airport for an extra four hours. The smile on my exhausted face was immediately returned by the sweet sounds of accoustic J. Mascis, being played… at an airport, no less! :) if you’re going to be stuck at an airport, Sea-Tac’s Sub Pop store is THE best place to be stuck in. Great selection of available music for you to sample, lots of band merch to peruse and purchase, little local art pieces, music literature, Sub Pop trinkets… a nice piece of Seattle to take home with you. The only thing I wished there were reclining chairs instead of wooden benches in the listening section to get comfy in as I attempted to sleep on top of my bulky luggage on a backless wooden bench… but I’m sure they’d have people that would never leave if that happened. :P Thank you Sub Pop store for soothing my nerves and ears!

Sup Pop started it all in Seattle!
Now before I rant and rave anymore it must be said without certain bands in Seattle before Sup Pop started, there would be no Sup Pop, so it’s time these bands get a shout out for being the original Seattle scene:

I’m sure I left out a few but without these bands you would have Pearl Jam, Mother Love Bone or Alice N Chains.
So now that I’ve said that FRANK gives a double thumbs up for turning Seattle into music history. I may not like all the artists from Sup Pop however I’m glad there here.
This store kinda shocked me to find at airport but it’s so Seattle which make it kinda cool. Everything you ever needed and didn’t need can be purchased. Need a new shirt to mosh in then you have 30 different ones to buy. Now for some reason LP’s are available to purchase, I guess airplanes have turntables now in 1^st class. Dvd’s, coffee cups and much much more are yours if you pay for it.
Stop on buy and relive your youth at The Sup Pop store before you fly. Thanks for everything Sup Pop!””””

Awesome. Reasonably priced. Friendly staff. To get there, head to Gate C. It is across from Life is Good.

I love you, Sub Pop store. I had all the albums that the Sub Pop store sold, but I still managed to get some cool t-​shirts to add to my collection. Staff was super cool, and the cashier complimented my Sonic Youth shirt.
Definitely pop in if you were ever a fan of any band that released music on the record label.

Music history in the heart of SeaTac Airport:
I have long been a fan of many label acts since the days of pre-​internet mail order catalogs. Glad to see the label is still very much alive, thriving, and enhancing their brand recognition with this new, high-​traffic airport location. Be sure to stop and grab a t-​shirt, pint glass, coffee mug, or 12 inch on your way home.

Hands down the best place to grab a gift at SeaTac. Lots of stuff you’d expect like t-​shirts, coffee mugs, and magnets but all of it infinitely better designed and crafted than you would usually find at an airport store. And that’s not even the half of it. They’ve also got piles of LPs, CDs, books, and art prints from local bands and artists and a cool interactive listening station area that turned my flight delay into a record listening party for one.

This little spot just opened up in Sea-​Tac, and it’s a really ingenious place for this store. Perhaps more ingenious is strategically placing all the Nirvana happy face shirts on the table right up front for travellers and tourists to see.
The inside of the store is clean and sleek. Well designed with much of the «gift» items out front but some music in a little corner in the back. What I will say this store has going for it is definitely the gift-​item factor. Whether you’re a Seattle native or flying in for a bit of tourism, this store will definitely have something worth picking up for that 20-​something (or maybe 30-​something yearning for the days of the mid 90’s). Any music fan will appreciate that «gift from Seattle in the form of either a flying fish from the market or a Nirvana shirt» the latter smells a bit less. There are lots of items with the «Sub-​Pop» logo on it; shirts, drinking glasses, etc. As well as a handful of other popular bands on the label.
Great location for last minute gifts or maybe that little gift for yourself. The prices are a little bit high, so I wouldn’t use this location as a place to «shop» but it’s a great spot for that last minute gift for a music lover.
