Delicious lamb gyro & falafel salad. Super nice folks. They were very accommodating when we ordered thru Unilocal and they had run out of spanikopita, but couldn’t alert us. So, instead of coming home with a spinach-based dish, we were given 3 baklava and a yummy chocolate roll. Only funny thing is that there were peanuts in the baklava — seems like a cost-savings measure that really messed with the flavor and wasn’t authentic.(Caveat: my less-discerning bf still thought it was delicious.)

This is my favorite restaurant on the Ave, I’m a die-hard regular. The guys there are so welcoming and friendly, and they always go the extra mile for me. The food is so delicious, portions are hearty and filling. You won’t regret the trip, I promise.

My favorite gyro place in Greenwood is currently closed due to a gas explosion, but Shawarma King is quickly becoming my favorite spot in the UW district. The guys working there are always super friendly and welcoming. The gyros are delicious, and I am a gyro fiend. Their veggies are always fresh, the hummus and tatziki are delicious and smooth, and they give a lot of meat. The shawarma plates are huge too. They are also open late, so it is perfect for late night meals.

The guys that work here are super friendly and the food was really good. Had the lamb schwarma plate, loss of meat and a hefty portion of rice with fresh romaine, tomatoes, and onions on the side. Gf had a pretty good gyro.

The lamb was prepared beautifully. I placed the to go order via Unilocal and it was ready shortly after I entered the restaurant. The meat was tender, moist and the sauce was delightfully rich. Typically, this dish in LA runs around $ 22, so I was a bit skeptical of their affordable pricing. But a deal is a deal especially when it is delectable! Next time I’m in town, I’m going back.

There are so many gyro places in the U-district, it’s hard to pick a favorite! Shawarma King isn’t the cheapest, but it’s turning into our go-to place for a slightly nicer, cleaner sit-down meal. The old location had a slightly odd setup, but this location seems nicer and fits the space better. You walk up and order at the counter, get your drinks from the cooler, and they bring your food out to you. It’s always busy and popular, but service is friendly and they get the food out pretty quickly. I’ve been on a falafel kick, so I’ve been ordering falafel at Mediterranean places lately instead of my usual gyro. The falafel salad($ 7) is really good — a large and satisfying portion, with soft and flavorful falafel balls(lots of cumin!) sliced in half so you don’t have to chase them around your plate with a plastic fork. The salad has a generous amount of tomatoes, cucumber and onions, and whatever’s in the«Egyptian dressing»(which tastes like a dill-heavy yogurt dressing to me) is fresh and tasty. The chicken shawarma plate($ 10) comes with hummus and pita, rice, and a small salad, and it’s plenty of food even for a hungry guy with a big appetite. The prices are good, service is fast, and the food is fresh and well-made. A lot of my favorite hole-in-the-wall joints don’t pass the«would you bring your parents here» test, but Shawarma King won’t upset even your fussiest relatives. Someday I might even have room afterward to try out that tasty-looking baklava…

We’ve been going to Shawarma King for years and they definitely have earned these 5 stars. The owners are super friendly and welcoming. They make their own hummus(don’t assume everyone else does, most do not!) and their food is always on point. We do take out on the regular and it’s always the right order, fresh and full of flavor. This is an awesome spot on the ave and I highly recommend it for take out or dine in!

Lots of seatings available, street parking. Had their lamb gyros sandwich and it was decent. Would definitely come back again for a quick lunch.

Seriously the BEST place to eat on The Ave! I fell in love with them a few years ago at their old location and then they moved right on The Ave in a more modern spot. I believe they are opening a new location around Roosevelt soon? Soooo I come here quite often. The food is just DELISH! Shawarma plate, gyro, salad, baklava etc is just AMAZING! And very reasonable priced! BUT it’s not just their food that brings me here. It’s the staff! O.M.G. they are THENICEST people in the world! ALWAYSALWAYSALWAYSSOOOOOOOFRIENDLY! When I come here I feel like I haven’t even left and I feel like part of their family. Sometimes I am helped by someone I have never met and they are still so nice! I came here two weeks ago on a Friday evening. I was helped by a gent I hadn’t seen before and I was questioning their Falafel. I had seen a special on the Food Network and silly me… I didn’t know it was vegetarian. And guess what? He made me a sample right there on the spot! Of course I was won over and ordered a plate and our usual lamb/beef shawarma plate. So I am waiting on my food just chatting it up with all 3 guys. By the time I left I had awesome takeout(Like I binge eat the whole GIANT plate b/c it’s that darn good!) a to go mint tea that they offered to me out of the kindness of their HUGE sweet hearts and on the house baklava. You guys! It doesn’t get any better than this place and these people! They have the best food and the best service. Just go see them and leave with a heart full of happiness and a belly full of amazing oh so bad for you food :) :)

The U-District has gyro joints scattered on every block of the Ave and I’ve tried a good handful of them. I was a devout fan of another gyro joint until I was introduced to the King of Shawarmas! I’ve never had a shawarma before here. It’s almost like a burrito. I always get lamb and it’s wrapped with veggies in a thin pita. They are so juicy and delicious! I have never not been able to pass up on ordering one while eating here(yes, that means I will get a side shawarma to go along with whatever else I am feeling for that given day… THEYARETHATGOOD)! On my last visit, I had the beef kofta kebab plate which was loaded with housemade creamy hummus, salad, rice, and pitas! And of course I got a lamb shawarma. Everything was scrumptious. I’ve also had their gyros which I think are higher quality than others that I’ve had from the Ave. The meat tastes less charred, juicier, and more flavorful. I think some places on the Ave recook their meat on the flattop before serving which could dry it out. Whatever makes the difference, it’s noticeable! The only downside is that the gyro prices are maybe a dollar higher than elsewhere on the Ave. But, it’s worth it IMO. The service is great! The guys are friendly and always give me a side of fries on the house without me asking or ordering! I am excited to try the lamb shank on my next visit!

Yay! I’m a fan. :) The food was good. The service was fast and friendly. Very casual atmosphere where you can enjoy a nice meal while watching tv, and there are plenty of nice big tables. Also love that it’s open late!

We tried take-out the second time around, and got basically the same menu items as the first visit: veg platter, Turkish coffee, lamb gyro, and the guava juice. The only problem with getting take-out is that any mistakes require an additional time investment to correct. They forgot my coffee, as they did on our first visit, but I didn’t even realize until we got home. Bummer. The food was pretty much the same, but wasn’t as thrilling this time around. I think the in-shop dining experience adds a lot to the meal. The place did smell funky tonight, though. My friend enjoyed her gyro, and my food wasn’t bad(the pita was a bit burned, though), but I’m not sure I’ll be back.

I would rate this place as very average place to get gyros. Great service, the people serving were extremely nice. Their gyros were pretty good but not the best I’ve tried on the ave. Their meat is cooked more soft than the other gyro places.

Came in this morning with a buddy who told me I have to try there Chicken kebab plate. It was 11.99 and came with so much food. I couldn’t even finish it and took the rest home. The kebabs come with bread, amazing hummus, a salad and tahini sauce. The kebabs were some of the best I’ve ever had in the Seattle area. It was super packed when we went in and there seemed to only be one guy working so I was worried he was going to mess up the order, but he didn’t. He got it to us so quickly despite the rush hour and he was super friendly. He took the time to make sure all customers enjoyed there food despite the craziness.

I’m having a hard time not giving these guys a 5. I got the veggie platter and a Turkish coffee, and my friend got a lamb gyro and a guava twist. He wasn’t joking when he said it’s a lot of food. The platter is enough for two, for sure. The veg shawarma and dolmas were really great, the hummus and baba ghanouj weren’t bad, and the tahini was ok. There was something kind of waxy that looked exactly like crisco — but tasted AMAZING. I’m going back just to ask what what that was. The coffee was really good, and the guava juice was satisfying, for sure. My main complaint is that the falafel was a bit too crispy — bordering on burned. The interior could be a little nicer, but not a big complaint there. I may up my rating if my next visit matches this one. If nothing else, stop in for the great staff — they were all personable, super friendly, made good jokes, and were easy to get along with. Great for a late night bite to eat.

The food was really, really good. I shared a plate I can only imagine being called the ‘can I have some meat with a side of meat, please?’ plate. The staff were super friendly and since it was so MAMMOTH they even brought it out to us. The chicken was the standout for me, but the other options– lamb and beef– were both tasty as well. I thought the sauces were good but didn’t blow me away, and there was some spice on that plate here and there which was a nice way to say«HELLOMOUTH» Overall, I’d totally go back anytime I was in the area, it’s good quality food that’s not too expensive. Not super ‘warm and inviting’ inside, more like a take out place with seating, but the food definitely made up for any lack of ‘ambience’

Well I have to admit this was my favorite place to eat until yesterday, where to start hmmm. Well I should had turned around when I didn’t see the regular guy behind the counter who greets you with a smile and makes awesome food with gloves. Ok I turned around from grabbing a can of soda and all behold the guy had no gloves on touching my pita bread gross because he never washed his hands as I tried to eat and thinking about what I just saw I heard a utensil fall on the floor not once, but twice. Ok ready? He picked it up both times and sat it back in a tub with other utensils, also continued to touch door knobs ring up orders and make more food and yes all without gloves or washing his hands… I will never and repeat will never step another foot into this place… I was Soo grossed out and disappointed with what I witnessed I actually was in shock… Where is the health department when you need them? Hmmm I guess I will be finding me a new favorite place to eat who actually washes hands and clean their utensils properly. Goodbye.

I wanted to grab something quick before I headed to the airport and I recalled walking by this joint once or twice. This is probably a joint lots of students on campus frequent as the food isn’t expensive and its quick; not to mention good. I stopped in and got the chicken shawarma sandwich which was very good. The guy behind the counter told me to drop some of the spicy sauce on the table on there. This is one of those places where the ketchup red squeezy sauce bottle looks like it been through some thangs and that you don’t wanna touch it LOL. The sauce was more sweet than spicy in my opinion but good. I devoured the sandwich/wrap in a rapid manner and was pretty satisfied.

I have gotten the Shwarma sandwich maybe a dozen times. The first time I went, it was so darn good that I embarrassingly had to go back up to the counter and ask for another one to eat there, and another one to go. I made sure to tip well because I knew I would come back so frequently. I wish I could make it out more often, you just really can’t beat that sandwich and fries combo. Try it out if you haven’t had it before. Also, I need that tahiti sauce in my kitchen. I need that in my life.

I love how late this place is open until! This satisfies the late night craving for sure. Overall, decent price for a good amount of food. In terms of quality, the food is very similar to other mediterranean places I’ve been. Great pita, chicken was a little dry. You can get your usual shawarmas, gyros, and kebabs here.

Shawarma King is a standby for UW students, but their other location has always been just too far North from my typical haunts to try. So when they opened up this new location I was super excited to finally check it out. I love gyros and donair, which are kind of in a similar line to shawarma, so I knew I’d be into it. I got the lamb shawarma plate, which includes a whole lot of meat on top of a giant bed of rice with garlicky sauce drizzled on top, several pieces of pita with lots of hummus, and a little lettuce salad. Now I can eat a LOT, but by the end of this meal I was thinking I’d need someone to roll me back to my apartment. And it was quite good, especially with that garlicky sauce. Now, the lamb meat wasn’t exactly as tender as I would like, but I wouldn’t call it dry either. That might have just been a casualty of the fact that I visited during a relatively slow time. The restaurant is clean, there’s a pretty decent amount of seating for a place on the Ave, and service is fast and friendly. No complaints, and this is definitely more than your typical U-district drunchies place – it tastes good sober, too!

I had the lamb kebab plate for lunch. The meat was too chewy for my liking but the rice, vegetables, pita bread, and sauce were all good. The restaurant has some simple yet colourful décor hung on the walls but is otherwise plain. I would pick up food to go in the future next time.
