Sandel Playground

Great park! The playground is in perfect condition. The grass is nice and it’s a wonderful place but the bathrooms and the basketball court condition is very bad. But overall it’s a good place to go with your family.

We love this park. The field gets terribly muddy and often times people bring their dogs and don’t clean up after them. But the families that come here are nice. The park has just the right amount of activity.

This is a great little park, with lots of room to run around in and play sports, as well as a playground area for kids. Plenty of shady parking along the perimeter of the park. Some areas of the grass are swampy like, so be careful there.
HOWEVER
My big issue with this park are the dog rules. It’s clearly stated everywhere to keep your dog on a leash. There are a LOT of people that constantly break this rule and just let their dogs run free. My golden retriever has been harassed/​attacked multiple times now while we are out walking with my infant daughter. It’s stressful and unnecessary! I understand your dog needs exercise and to run free, but take him to a park that allows off leash. It’s simple as that. I’m following the rules and don’t need this drama on a daily basis and to deal with the owner that’s trying to defend their dog by saying it just needs to run around. Horseshit — follow the rules, control your animal or I’m going to start carrying around a big stick to whack your dog with under the defense of «I’m just trying to enjoy my walk.»

I love taking my kids to this park, rain or shine. Perfect for teaching your kids to ride a bike.
Special thanks to all the people who let their dogs crap all over the place. Please observe the scoop up after your pet law. Really enjoyed sliding in a pile dropped right at the base of the sign asking people to pick up their poop. Classy folks!

This park is nestled in a residential area. I love the trees that surround the property because it offers shade, precious shade. Street parking is easy, particularly since this isn’t a terribly busy park.
Aside from the play structure and other activities on one end, there is an open field on the other. The play structure is really everything a kid needs (and pretty much when a bunch of kids get together, they don’t need much).
As some have noted, this park has changed. One of the primary reasons I used to take my child here was for the wading pool. As far as I can tell, it isn’t being filled anymore and it’s not on the schedule. It was a really nice location for one.
This is still a nice park, great for kids, and for a quiet time.

I love this park! It is blocks away from my house and I am there 6 out of 7 days of the week. I love to throw the ball for my dog here and y 11 month old daughter loves to swing. I am super excited for her to be old enough to play on the playground. I have lived in this neighborhood for a few years, and there are two things I am not thrilled with here. The first, there are sketchy/​inebriated people here pretty often. Not enough to ruin my fun, but enough to notice out of the corner of my eye. The second, they have a concrete kiddie wading area, and the whole time I have lived here it has never been filled. I know it costs money, but especially now that I have a kid, I want that sucker open! Help me out with that Parks and Rec dept (or who ever takes care of that…)!

After a year of being under construction, Sandel Playground has transformed into the perfect neighborhood park. In years past, Sandel drew the neighborhood kids with it’s large open field, basketball court, big swings, wading pool, and sidewalk paths that just begged to be tested with training wheels. But the installation of a giant play structure has really given an old park a new edge. In addition to the ammenities already listed, Sandel now boasts a merry-​go-​round, a sandbox area filled with trucks and shovels, huge, super-​fast slides, a rope web for climbing, a monkey bar arch, and tons of fun little details within the play structure to encourage the imagination of kids and adults alike. Sandel is a great place for a spontaneous picnic under a shady tree followed by a game of catch with the kids.
The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was because the wading pool was closed this summer due to budget cuts. A major bummer because their setup is really cool! If they bring it back next year, Sandel will definitely deserve an extra star.
Sandel is quiet, always has plenty of parking around the perimeter of the whole park, and just the right size for wearing out young children. For a neighborhood park, it doesn’t get any better!
