Rainier Community Center

I also volunteered at MathFest, and agree that this place is huge, and clean, and seems to be well-​separated and well-​planned out for a variety of event uses. There are large rooms (the gym) and many smaller rooms, including a catering type kitchen.
The staff (and volunteers!) were great. Definitely come here to play, or for an event, sometime! Parking is super easy, and it seems to be on several bus lines.

I volunteered at MathFest here and was impressed by what this place had to offer to the community. From there huge gym, big kitchen, computer room and rooms I probably didn’t even see, this center can host a whole slew of community activities.
This facility is well organized and staffed so everyone in the community has a safe place to go.
I was impressed with how clean the facility was, it’s very well maintained even the bathrooms.
It is quite a walk from the light rail station, but there is sidewalks so at least you aren’t walking on the side of the road.

I have to agree with Unilocaler Andrew below. I was volunteering at the same and terrific MathFest event that was organized by Zeno, a non-​profit that aims to create positive experiences and make math fun for children. This place is a very good place to host an event for Columbia City and other nearby Seattle neighborhood/​communities. The main gym is very large and clean. It was able to host so many people without feeling completely packed in a confined space. The kitchen and the restrooms were clean and have enough space to accommodate a large crowd.
There are also plenty of parking around the area. Even though there were probably around 1,500 people (volunteers+kids+families) who showed up for the event that evening, I was still able to still parking in that area (parking lot was full though).
Rainier Community Center is definitely a wonderful, large space for any organization to consider hosting their event, especially if they are expecting a great turn out of attendees/​participants.

This review is for the facility, for holding a non-​profit event.
A commnuity brings people together; and places like this are great. For what reason? They hold events that are basically community building… in this case, they held an event for Zeno, called Mathfest. I was in two parts of the facility.
1. The main gym, which was also where all the activites were held, is a great large facility, with lots of lights and space to do just about everything. I think for general use, I love the ease to get tables and chairs, I think it’s truly a great place for basically any community focused event.
2. The kitchen, where I become impromptu kitchen boss… is excellent for making pretty much anything you can think of, they have a respectible workspace, and I think if you have a lot of food to be made, this works.
okay, shorty review, but I don’t normally do these types of review, but I think that there are great things that these places do, and knowing that if I ever had a child, maybe there are places for them to just have fun, makes the world just a little better.

According to the website, this community center is the 2^nd largest in the state of WA.
Since I have a toddler, I make the rounds to many community centers specifically for their «tot gym» times — when the main/​big gym is open only to the kiddos — set up with balls, hoops, slides, mini-​cars, mats, etc… for only $ 2, it is definitely a good way for kids to burn some energy.
Parents are usually pretty friendly too — so it is easy to strike up a conversation with another adult if you are so inclined. Unfortunately for me these days, I have to watch the little one like a hawk or he will bonk some kid on the head with a basketball, toy or his bare hands… which makes it difficult to carry on any kind of conversation — but that is another story…
I haven’t really visited this community center for any other events, but generally I would say it seems clean, there are a lot of rooms available for various events & the people at the front desk are always super friendly.
There is also a nice big play field across the street & a decent playground for when the weather is nice as well.
Close to the fun stuff in Columbia City — so it is easy to scoot over & get food or do some shopping nearby.
