Puget Sound Eye Care

I have nothing but good things to say about the staff at Puget Sound Eye Care! I was looking for a new eye care provider end of 2015 and they were able to fit me in before my 2015 benefits expired. Dr. Redrick was so nice and helped address my red eyes with what I was excited was just dry eyes and gave me a easy to follow home remedy.
I was able to find some cute sunglasses to meet my lense benefit (I had lasik two years ago) and the staff was so awesome in calling my insurance (VSP) and confirm my benefits. The parking is a little lacking but that is expected in many areas in Seattle and if you park in the garage be extra careful as the garage is really narrow, I would stick with street parking and will next time.
I have found my new eye care provider, thanks for making it so easy ! :)

I just visited Dr. Ho and she did a fantastic job getting my eyes it the right shape. I was very happy that she took the time to go over my optical options, and happier with the attention to detail that she gave. If you are looking for an eye doctor in the Seattle area I highly recommend you check out Puget Sound Eye Care and ask to see Dr. Ho.

Below is a copy of a letter I had to mail to their office as I could not convince the staff to return my 4 (FOUR) detailed phone messages. I finally did receive a return call from the office manager after they received the letter.
Then, after months of hassle… a week later they left a message that it all was a mistake and they now owe me the $ 170.
Until now I thought I was the only one with problems with their billing practices, but after reading the Unilocal reviews it appears that is not the case. After 24 years of my family using this practice, I am done. Darned shame as I really like Dr. Ono. Clearly this practice needs an employee overhaul in their office (and it wouldn’t hurt to replace Dr. Ono’s surly assistant of many years either).

Dear Office Manager:
My family and I have been clients of Puget Sound Eye Care and Optical Solutions for 24 years.
In July 2014 I ordered new glasses from Optical Solutions. According to the woman who helped me select them, my share after insurance was $ 330 which was paid in full when ordered.
I never received any correspondence or bills from your office stating there was an error until 11 months later.
In July 2015 I received an invoice dated June 29, 2015 stating that my account was past due in the amount of $ 170 + a late fee in the amount of $ 5.10. I called your office on July 31^st and left a message explaining my confusion over the bill. I never received a return call (#1). There was no indication on the bill why it was so late in coming, nor why it was considered past due.
The first week of August I received a second bill with an increased late fee. Again I called the office on August 10 during business hours and was routed to voicemail. I left a second message asking for a return call. It was never returned (#2).
Yesterday, September 8 I received a third bill with yet again an increased late fee. This was is marked as «final notice.» I called your office at 1:10 on September 8. Your bookkeeper was out of the office so I left a message with the receptionist asking for a return call that day. That was call #3 from me. Again it was not returned.
I called again this morning, September 9 at 10:30 and was routed to voicemail. For the fourth time I left a message without a return call.
In 24 years of using Puget Sound Eye Care and Optical Solutions our family has always paid our bills promptly. I am appalled that I cannot convince your office to return my phone calls about this bill.
Enclosed find a check in the amount of the original bill of $ 170. I am no closer to understanding why your office believes I owe this amount, but in order to clear this from my plate I am paying it. I will not pay late fees. Kindly let me know that they have been removed from charges due.
I will come in and pick up my records from your office this month. As a result of the non-​existent communication I have received from your office I will be changing my doctor. CALL ME AT (206) XXX-​XXXX before September 30^th to inform me that my records are ready for pick up.

Little Miss Dumbass got hair dye in the right eye, and then proceeded to not only NOT take my contacts out immediately, but also wore them until 1am. Then, just for good measure, I wore the same lenses the following day. My eye was completely crusted over the next morning, unable to open, and suuuuper itchy/​red. Sometimes I amaze myself at my own stupidity. So I called my insurance to find a new local eye doctor, and they recommended this place.
I called them, and they were able to get me in immediately! They ran several tests on my eye, dropped in some yellow dye («It only stings at first.» They say. — ‘Oh, kind of like the «low-​ammonia» hair dye! Cool, yeah, no problem!’) and thankfully, I am happy to say that I lived. It has been recommended that I wear my child sized Barbie glasses for a few days. Great. I was given some drops to help with the irritation and sent back to work.
I’m gonna be okay. **thumbs up**

I decided to write this review the minute whoever called me about my insurance payment called me deformed.
As a doctor I found Dr. Carlson to be a fantastic resource, but the billing killed this experience and since I used Unilocal to pick this doctor I figure I should contribute as well.
I have a small issue with my eye since birth and I make a request that it be monitored each year when I go to the optometrist. When making the same request of the doctor he explained that I may have other options. We talked about the situation for maybe 5 minutes and he offered to give me a referral. Fantastic! I walked out a seriously happy camper.
Today I was called because they needed my medical insurance card and informed that they need to bill my medical insurance in addition because of the issue with my eye. This is insane. I have had the same issue with my eye for 30 years and no one has ever tried to double bill my insurance. That ridiculousness aside, the girl who called me about the information informed me that I signed a waiver that stated I would pay for anything medically related and my eye deformity falls under that.
FIRST OFF. I am not DEFORMED! The issue with my eye is so slight most people don’t notice. Secondly, I was there for an hour. They have now billed VSP for my yearly vision check-​up, maxed out my contacts benefit with the lamest «fitting and education» session ever, taken $ 80 from me for out-​of-​pocket charges and now they are going to bill my insurance $ 165 that then will be billed to me.
Also, with the contacts I purchased they did no type of education on getting them in and out. I said I had used them for a few weeks 15 years ago and the assistant put some lenses in my eyes and sent me on my way. Thank god for youtube. They should donate my excessive fitting fee to google.
I will not refer this place or go back. I spend a lot of money on glasses too. Sucks for them.

I had no problem at this clinic and saw Dr. Ong who was very nice. The front desk got my insurance and co-​pay correct which is always a plus. I did have to wait longer than expected but not over 15 mins. The optical place next door is good too, they usually don’t take more than 4 days to get my order in which is wonderful.

Went to the clinic on a whim and I was pleasantly surprised with how warm everyone was after reading the past reviews.
The receptionist and staff were helpful and informative.
Dr. Carlson worked with me and I really appreciated him listening to me about my concerns and was very kind and considerate when I told him how nervous I was about studying for a board exam. He also presented me with different treatment options– it was nice that he took time to explain to me about my options and pros and cons of each treatment. He was very warm and understanding. Thank you!!!
After the appointment, Frank helped me in finding a pair of glasses. He was nice and friendly, helped give me time and space to figure out what to even get while also helping me figure out which pair of glasses to go with in the very end.
Next time I need to get another exam or glasses, will go here again!
Note– the patient parking is in a very tight garage, unless you have a small car, stick to street parking.

Dr. Ono is my jam!
Talk about a gift to the hard of seeing (is that a thing?), I have lived with terrible eyesight for far too long– I am starting to think I need to re write all my reviews because WHO KNOWS what I could have missed?!
He was thorough, caring and damn it I loved his personality. I’d love to work for this guy!

Coming from a clinic work environment, I have patience for those in the same type of job, however I just couldn’t help but be appalled at how my visits went at Puget Sound Eyecare. I called ahead of time to make sure that my insurance would work, and the office staff told me incorrectly about how my insurance would cover my whole visit when in reality they used up insurance that was supposed to only go towards contacts. Second my they were running AN HOUR AND A HALF late, I spent 20 minutes with the optometrist and overall the appointment took me two and a half hours. A complete waste of time, because I proceeded to be given the WRONG CONTACTS TWICE. As well as the office staff lying to me to say my insurance covered the visit and then lying to cover it up. I had no problems with actually paying for the visit, I just don’t want anything to do with a place that lies to their patients.

I write this review out of boredom as I have been sitting here for an hour and 43 minutes. I found this clinic through my insurance website and even called to confirm… however, when I got to the clinic an hour and 43 minutes ago, they said I wasn’t covered. I called and spent 30 minutes on the phone who confirmed I was indeed covered but they didn’t believe they insurance company and forced me to sign a consent form for payment even though the insurance confirmed… 2 hours and 17 minutes later, I see the doctor for approximately 10 minutes where he states the only solution is eye behavior therapy. Fun.
Fast forward three months, I get a bill in the mail for exactly… one penny. They mailed me a bill for 1 penny… the cost of their stamp and my stamp was 870% more expensive then the bill. Craziness.
PS: This was written about 3 years ago but it was my first time using Unilocal and I came back today and realized it was an «unfinished» review… so now it’s finished!

I was just about to write a scathing review on their customer service (and seeing as I’m not the first to comment on this), BUT just received a call back from Sephorn who took care of me after her coworker was being rude. Unfortunately, it was for an overcharge on a bill which shouldn’t have happened in the first place, and she said they will be mailing me back a check, but this was after 2 phone calls and an unanswered voicemail on the matter when I questioned the overcharge in the first place.
I have a suggestion: if you don’t know an answer to something right away, it is quite alright to call the customer back instead of giving misleading answers or being rude.
The quality of care from Dr. Ho was great though, for both my husband and me. I just don’t think I want to risk encountering anymore customer service hassle. Looking forward to the check in the mail, Sephorn, thank you.

Eyeglass shop was really helpful with support after my original purchase. They were always happy to adjust my glasses, and when I had some problem with the coating over a year after the original purchase they replaced the lenses for free without any problems.
I’ve moved away from Seattle, and needed them to give me some info about the glasses I had purchased, and they did so happily even though there was no money in it for them.
Great customer service. I’m sure you can find cheaper frames and lenses somewhere else, but the customer support has been invaluable.

The worst customer service, or lack there of. The staff is extremely rude and unprofessional. They do not value their customers at all. Not worth your time especially when there are so many other great places nearby.

Been going here for two years. Dr. Ono and Dr. Carlson are great. The staff in the optical department are awesome. Dawn and Stephani helped me pick out some great Oakley frames. Have bought three pairs of glasses here. And always a great experience. Check them out. I did and am glad for it.

Dr. Ono is a great guy. Super friendly and always upbeat and cheery. Unfortunately, his office is the complete opposite. As someone who was a customer of his for 16 years, I never really gave it much thought. It’s just the eye doctor, after all. Before I moved away from the area for a while, I wanted to get an updated contact lens prescription so that I could stay on top of things before I ran out of lenses. Upon arrival, I was alerted to the fact that I would not be receiving a contact lens prescription because I was out of benefits. Things quickly became tense and blew out of proportion with his office manager, to the point where she entered my examination room during my examination with the doctor to declare that I «would not be receiving a contact lens prescription.»
After my appointment, I made some calls to my insurance provider and they told me all the office would have had to do was call them and verify to see that I did actually have a remaining benefit. The fact that the office staff was unwilling to do such a simple thing and instead resorted to high tension tactics for a long-​term customer of theirs makes me feel hurt. I have since taken my business elsewhere and am much happier.

First, the good. Dr. Ono is a very nice man, and I think he knows what he’s doing. The bad? He is completely surrounded by incompetence. First, the lab they use broke both my new frames and new sunglasses frames before getting them to me in one piece. Then when I received them, I got an almost instant headache because something was way, way off. The optician at the frame shop associated with PSEC checked the prescription and said that it was correct, choosing to blame my perception on an aspect of my old prescription being flawed (the old prescription served me well for 5 years and the glasses held up well). Then to add insult to injury, they made no effort whatsoever to actually fit the frames to my face. I had to go elsewhere to get them fitted properly! Finally frustrated that PSEC was incompetent to help me, I went elsewhere off the strong recommendation of a colleague, and they found a couple of errors in the prescription and actually a slightly different prescription altogether! They also said that the optical quality of the lenses was quite poor. Dr. Ono, for your own good, please leave and form your own practice with other reputable professionals and a better lab and with trained opticians who take pride in helping customers choose frames and then fit them properly.

Dr. Ono is great! He is very professional and a very nice man. However, the office manager/​receptionist is extremely rude. I had multiple encounters with her in person and over the phone and each time, she has been rude. Even the simplist of questions, she will speak to you like you are wrong for inquiring. I believe her bad attitude will eventually hurt his business. Do not expect friendly customer service from this staff. I wish Dr. Ono the best.

The good: Dr. Ono is fantastic — one of the best eye doctors I’ve ever had. His bubbly, vivacious personality is catching and he is genuinely nice. He clearly cares about and enjoys what he does, in addition to knowing his field very well.
The bad: The office staff/​receptionists are generally apathetic, and even the nurses are a bit rude. I’ve gotten a friendly woman on the phone once, but whenever I go in person they’re chilly at best. What gives? How can such a nice doctor have such seemingly not-​nice staff? I really hope this changes in the future and that they realize it’s off-​putting, because it’s really the only thing preventing me from recommending them more often!
Overall, this is more of a 3.5 star review, rounded up to a 4. Puget Sound Eye Care, please listen to your customers! We don’t need rainbows and unicorns, but a would a little more warmth and politeness from the office staff be so difficult to procure?

My boyfriend has been seeing Dr. Ono for just a year. Initially, we had no problems– they were friendly and got the job done. However, he ordered a pair of clip on sunglasses from them that broke within a week of his taking it home. They ordered a replacement free of charge, but ordered the wrong shade– brown instead of gray.
Later, my boyfriend realized he was having trouble seeing out of his glasses and took them in. The optometrist said there were scratches on the lenses, and tried to tell him that he had to pay $ 120 to replace them because he was just one month past his warranty. He negotiated the price down to $ 85, but when we went home, we found out that his insurance covers the cost of a pair of glasses a year.
Since he works nights, he had also requested that they not call before 2 p.m. in the afternoon. When his glasses came in, we received a call at 10 in the morning.
We will be finding a different optometrist. Any of these situations on their own would be perfectly understandable as mishaps and oversights do happen despite our best efforts, but seriously? Get your act together, guys.

I love contacts. When I put them on, I can see in the rain, I can see when I swim, and I can see out my peripheral line of vision… and trust me, with a –6.0 and –6.5 prescription, seeing is very important.
But I hate contacts that feel like lead on my eye balls, hurt my lids when I blink or sting after a couple hours. Dr. Ono solved all this when he gave me a couple great contact options and helped me find the one that worked best for me.
