Patrice Hapke, LAc MAc

I found Patrice Hapke on the internet when I was searching for an acupuncturist to help with fertility. I met with her in January 2012 after one year of trying to conceive. Patrice not only helped me with my physical needs, but also mental and spiritual. She treats the whole person and has a very non-​judgmental loving, caring approach. I was fortunate to conceive naturally 12 months later, which was my goal all along. She never let me give up or doubt my body. She gave me sage advice on how to approach my fertility and conception. I appreciate everything she did for me in trying to conceive and will continue my relationship with her during my pregnancy and beyond.
As for business practices, I felt Patrice’s pricing and billing to be fair and up-​front. My insurance company only covers 6 sessions, so she allowed me to pay a reduced rate rather than the higher rate my insurance company allows and would have paid her if it did not all go toward my deductible. That was above-​and-​beyond what she needed to do.
I highly recommend Patrice to any woman trying to conceive. She has a wealth of knowledge and caring approach to her craft.

I started seeing Patrice last year and could not be happier with her treatments. I was interested in acupuncture to get relief from chronic headaches and occasional shoulder/​upper back fatigue. The results have been amazing! My headaches (that I’ve experienced on a regular basis for at least 15yrs) are virtually gone. Additionally, I’ve absolutely experienced benefits throughout my entire body. After leaving I am so relaxed and at peace. I would recommend Patrice without reservation.

The billing polices Patrice uses are completely ridiculous and shady. I asked her and her receptionist multiple times how much each of my visits was going to cost. They both responded that each visit is $ 85 but it depends on how much my insurance covers. So my understanding was that she would bill my insurance $ 85 and my insurance would cover what they cover and rest would be my responsibility.
When I got the bill I was surprised to see that each of my visits were billed between $ 185-​$ 350!
What the hell?! What happened to $ 85?!
When I asked her about this she said that her billing practices are posted clearly on her website and in her office. I still don’t see any prices on her website.
After numerous emails she explained that she does a sliding scale for people who do not have insurance and that is where the $ 85 came from. I understand the concept of a sliding scale but why would she tell me that each visit was $ 85 when she knew that I was paying with insurance?
It’s completely shady. She then offered to give me a discount on my bill for one complimentary treatment at the rate of (get this!) $ 85. NONE of my sessions were $ 85.
Also, she left needles in TWO patients while I was waiting for treatment.
On a better note, I saw her assistant, Nicole, once who was far more gentle and more forthcoming with information than Patrice.
I would recommend paying the $ 85 cash and bill your insurance on your own. Or better yet, go to Union Center for Healing for acupuncture — not only are their billing policies and prices posted clearly on their website, but they are also super awesome and gentle and unpretentious.

Just wanted to write an update to my previous review. I ended up seeing Patrice through my entire pregnancy, which was so helpful for some of those «par for the course» symptoms I was suffering from — foot cramps, restlessness, heartburn. She totally helped! Also, and most importantly, during my 3^rd trimester I went to Patrice so she could help assist in positioning the baby for an easier birth experience. It was great. She even put little stickers on specific pressure points on my ankle so that during labor, all I had to do was push on these, breathe and it really made the whole experience easier. Again, I whole-​heartedly recommend Patrice for fertility issues as well as Pregnancy related care!

A good friend first referred me to Patrice’s practice because I was suffering from a horrendous sinus infection. The infection completely cleared 3 days after my treatment and I needed another reason to see this miracle woman! Lucky for me, I was also a chronic night tooth grinder. Once again Patrice worked her magic on me. Now my husband and I planned on having children in the future, so I said goodbye to my birth control and consulted Patrice on the best way for me to cleanse my body and prepare for pregnancy, in the future. Six months later I was pregnant! Oops! A little earlier than planned but we were ecstatic nonetheless. I continued to see Patrice for just about every pregnancy ailment one can have… my first trimester was not very glamorous as I practically lived over the porcelain throne. That being said, the treatments I received did help tremendously; so I was able to eat and keep it down to help the little one growing inside. As my pregnancy progressed my achy muscles and shifting bones were eased with thoughtful treatments from Patrice. The little one really enjoyed those appointments; he started kicking every time we lay on the table. My due date came and went and I needed to get the little one OUT! I saw Patrice one last time while pregnant as she worked her magic once more. I had an induction scheduled for the next week, but the Friday after that treatment Enzo came naturally, just the way I had envisioned it.
Patrice did more for me than just ease my pain, she helped relax me, and she listened as I discussed options and the scary medical system we face here in America. As I was contracting I could hear Patrice telling me to breathe, relax and let my body do the work. Even though she was not present she was there with me. Acupuncture has become a great natural way for me to heal my body and soul. I couldn’t imagine going through my pregnancy and birth without Patrice and the acupuncture treatments I received.

My midwife referred me to Patrice when I had sharp pains in my lower back, at about 7 months pregnant. Patrice has been able to address all of my aches and pains, frequently eliminating them after just one or two visits. I’ve come to spend all week looking forward to acupuncture — Patrice has a great bedside manner, and always seems happy to answer my endless questions.
