Minakami Karate Dojo

As a casual martial arts practicioner, I never been in one dojo for more than 3 months. However, Minakami Karate somehow makes me settle down for karate. Been here for almost a year and my only regret is just if I could join in way earlier!

I started at MKD in my junior year of college about three years ago, and my only regret is not having lived in Seattle as a kid and not starting at this dojo earlier. This school has completely transformed me as a person in terms of physical strength, mental discipline, confidence, and respect. Minakami Shihan and the instructors teach every class with high energy and spirit. From previous experience, there are some dojos that simply run through forms/​motions routinely and collect tuition. However, MKD is a place where the instructors genuinely help each student improve. We learn how karate not only applies to the classroom, but also in everyday life. In addition, the instructors are great about demonstrating techniques, so students of all ages and levels can learn details by example.
If you or your little one is willing to work hard and have fun, this positive and supportive school is the way to go. This high quality level of teaching and sense of family within the dojo cannot be matched elsewhere!
Classes in kata (forms), kumite (sparring), and kobudo (weapons — bo and sai) are offered, and students are encouraged to compete in local and regional tournaments.

My 7 year old daughter has been attending Minakami Karate for the past two years and loves it. It is a REAL studio that encourages exercise, discipline, technique, and fun. I couldn’t be happier and recommend it to anyone who is interested in karate.

I have trained in karate for 17 years, and have been at Minakami karate for 2.5 years. This is truly a special place with unparalleled instruction for both kids and adults.
