As a resident of the Meadowbrook/Wedgwood/Sandpoint area, I was thrilled when I heard we would be getting our own weekly farmers market! I’ve gone almost every week since they opened and think the early reviewers of the market need to try again. This is a brand new market and time is needed for it to mature. I will agree that at first, I was a little disappointed – the vendor list published on the market’s website( ) felt misleading because only some of the vendors listed were in attendance – but the list has been updated with expected attendance dates so that you can plan accordingly. Here are some of the great things the Meadowbrook Farmers Market offers: –Lots of produce! Some organic, some not, but all seasonal and great. –Shellfish! When was the last time you saw shellfish at a neighborhood market? If you’re me, it’s been a while. –Patty Pan Grill! Mr. Mobley’s! Best of all, Poco Carretto Gelato. Delicious, all of them. –Music! The first week I attended, the Small Time String Band was a delight, I hope they return! –Classes! How to build a worm bin, how to build a cob oven, aikido demonstrations. –Parking! Other commenters mentioned a lack of parking, but I haven’t found that to be the case at all. The Waldorf School has a parking lot that always seems to have room when I arrive. –Dog-friendly! And let me tell you, people in my neighborhood have some cute and happy dogs. –WINE. Need I say more? I hope that the market is able to survive the slings and arrows of being a «startup» and flourishes in the coming years – but it won’t happen without your support! Keep your mind open and give them a try.

Give Meadowbrook a chance — I agree its not the U District Market, but its a great start and its on Sundays, which for me is also a plus. Plusses: Tamales, Poco Caretto(SWOON), room to move and DOGS are allowed, no long lines of foodies discussing with each vendor the provenance of their butternut squash and the pH of the soil in which it was birthed Minus: needs more vendors, but that will happen with time and getting there, hard if you are not familiar with that little hamlet of the 98115 This is truly a community sponsored and much needed market for the area. The growing season is starting and soon there will be a plethora of produce for you to chose from. I’m sure the Market managers will be happy to take your suggestions of the type of vendors you would like to see represented here.

What a waste of time! This Farmers Market won’t last because the parking is ridiculously limited, the streets to get there go through a neighborhood that will not be happy with the additional traffic. The small amount of vendors there were a joke. The Farmers Market at the Lake Forest Park Shopping Center has 4 times the amount of parking and vendors. «Parking Attendants» working the parking lot included a child(not safe!) and a young lady with a bad attitude. I will make sure to warn my neighbors to not waste there time.

This farmers market is just starting up and it is not fair that the previous reviewer gave it such a low mark. Each week there will be more and more fresh items to purchase, give it a chance to develop, as well as the fruit on the trees! This market has a huge point of difference. Come this Sunday, June 14th, noon-2 p.m. as they will begin a free four-week educational series on building your own backyard cob oven! This is a great community outreach effort for the beginning of a very innovative market which will have plenty of food offerings. Good grief, if farmers had as little patience as the previous reviewer, where would we all be!

I was looking forward to this market, especially after all the advertising about the north end. But the first weekend was highly disappointing. I headed out in hopes of getting a take home pizza, some fresh fruit and some cheese. I came home with none of the above. The market was very small, which is fine. But there were no fruit vendors and the pizza station was MIA. There were a few interesting booths. A great silk scarf booth and children’s activities. And there was a huge line for gelato and tamales. Both I was not willing to wait when there was nothing else to do. The flowers were great but after the disappointing show, I passed. The lack of vendors was sad. This was the first weekend of the market, so I do give some slack. And there was a sign that due to the weather, there would be no fruit or pizza. But the weather was simply overcast… I don’t get it. It was honestly more of a preview of a farmer’s market than a real farmer’s market. Hopefully, it will evolve into something worthwhile. To end on a high note, the market did have plenty of parking.
