I consulted with Dr. Attaman to discuss some alternatives to surgery. His office billed $ 1000 for that 10 minute discussion. I appreciate that he offers some alternative treatments but his office is not easy to deal with nor for the budget-​conscious.

This review is not for Dr. Attaman, whom I met briefly during a first «meet and greet», but for his poorly run office staff. This could be a long story but I’ll cut it short with the unprofessional lack of communication and information verbally presented by his office manager, Kristen (girlfriend?), and his staff. After surgery for Spinal Stenosis last year, I made an appt. to consult on possible pain surgery. The original appt. was cancelled the DAY before via a phone call from Kristen stating Dr. Attaman had dental issues requiring immediate attention. OK — my husband and I had both arranged work time off and had to adjust our schedules to accommodate this last minute change. Kristen said she would call to re-​schedule within a day or so. Not so. After calling back TWICE to re-​schedule the procedure, I was able to finally talk with her and she said «I was on her list to call back». Red Flags. At this point, I asked to meet with Dr. Attaman for a first time «meet and greet». Scheduled successfully, I asked about payment and insurance options. Kristen assured me «whatever insurance covered would be considered payment in full». I went to the appt. ½ an hour early, as requested, to fill out paperwork and give insurance info. Checked-​in and sat for 50 min. with not a soul asking for info. Finally, escorted into an exam room, and asked by the young lady if my paperwork and insurance was completed. Nope. Another 10 minutes to take my info and insurance card and she returns to ask me to disrobe for the exam. I tell her I’m there for a first time meeting, not an exam — she says «well, we could have done that in his office». Yes. What a waste of my time. When I finally meet Dr. Attaman, he was pleasant enough but never washed his hands and proceeded to run his hands through his long hair during the conversation. Yuck. The finale… he billed my insurance $ 400 for a 15 minute consultation. When I refused to pay the $ 227, insurance would not pay (here you go Kristen and Renee), the bill was sent to collections. Yes, at 60 yrs. of age, this is the new way to treat patients. This is why he was second choice of a pain specialist from my original surgeon. Beware!

I chose Dr. Attaman for 2 reasons — #1 Reviews. Not here, which is why i’m Unilocaling first, but elsewhere — reviews were stellar. #2 I’m not doing any more drugs. If I went to a pain specialist and they pulled out the RX pad I might have set it on fire. (ok not really, maybe just a page). His website and credentials made me assume that he doesn’t like to do drugs either. When I called to make an appointment, I was asked if my primary would write RX’s for me if needed — I flippin’ LOVE this concept — enough with the 5 different doc’s writing 5 different RX’s with no follow-​up or monitoring.
Dr. Attaman actually reads the forms you fill out. (These days, any Doctor who does that is worth at least 4 stars). But I didn’t just give him my 15 page form file … I gave him another 15 pages of test results and Doctor notes for 5 months worth of visits. During my exam, Dr. Attaman mentioned a diagnosis that was given by which medical facility — and not only was he right, but he recalled something that happened way back in February. After reading 30 pages of whatthehellisthisgirlsproblem?
I didn”t need someone to hold my hand and tell me everything is going to be okay, I needed someone to look at the facts and make firm decisions based on their knowledge and the data. Dr. Attaman did all of the above, he even apologized for all of the dbags before him who did none of it, and as much as I claim to not need «warm and fuzzy» — there aren’t words to describe how NICE it was for someone to take the time to acknowledge my mismanaged care.
When I left, I took 3 business cards. 1 for me, 1 for my primary Doc, and 1 for my PT. Maybe Doctor’s just need our help in building their COI’s, less dbag referrals and more healthy happy patients!
