A true West Seattle legend. A one man show, Mr. Wah Wong indeed serves up Chinese food(and other things!) just like your gramps would make. –sadly, Mr Wah and his son were seriously injured by a POS Drunk Driver a few weeks ago, and the place is closed indefinetly. All of us are sending him and his family our strongest prayers and thoughts. There is more info on this horrific tragedy on the West Seattle Blog.

My wife and i live in west seattle and have driven by this little place for years. I’ve been wanting to check it out… Well, last night we tried it. And… If you are looking for some of the BESTFOOD in Seattle(Asian or American), at ridiculously-low prices, and if you are not concerned so much with décor, and if you don’t mind sitting at the counter and chatting with nice west seattle folks who have been coming here to Wah’s little café for years — go there. NOW. Bottom line: FANTASTIC! HUGEPORTIONS! Don’t expect to get your food too quickly, and after one visit, you’ll know it’s worth the wait!

This is one of those places that, if you walked by, you would probably think it’s looks a little scary. I thought this when I first moved to the neighborhood, in fact, I didn’t even know if it was open. Good news, it’s not scary, it is open and it’s the coolest little place. Come here for the breakfast. I usually get the ham and cheese omelet and it’s freaking huge, the size of an entire plate and it comes with 3 pieces of toast. Wah gently gave me some grief for not finishing it. This also might be the cheapest restaurant in Seattle. I couldn’t believe the prices. I think my omelet was $ 3.50 or cheaper. The last time I ate here he had a sign on the wall that said he was raising the price of everything by $ 1. It doesn’t matter, it’s still cheap as hell. Even though I think he has hours posted on the front door, it doesn’t seem like he keeps them. I noticed that he’s usually always open on the weekend mornings, but the weekday evenings can be hit or miss. He also goes to Beijing once a year for about a month so he’s always closed then, but I think he puts a sign on the door.

I do not plan on putting on a layer of fat this winter season, as tempting as being warmer more often is. So in an attempt to be healthy I ordered the oatmeal last visit, Wah asked if he could make it like he does with egg in it, feeling a bit wild I said sure. My taste buds sky rocketed to heaven. I never knew oatmeal could be this good. I don’t know if the man was sprinkling some kind of drug has he hummed cooked and chattered away but I am hooked! It is a must must must try! Did I mention it is $ 2, how he can even afford to charge so little boggles my mind!

This place is truly unique. I imagine it’s like eating at your Chinese grandpa’s house — giant helpings of hearty breakfast and Chinese comfort food cooked to order and served by an adorable old man in his tiny little kitchen. Like your Chinese grandpa, Wa will take care of you. We enjoyed two huge, steaming bowls of wonton soup, a heaping plateful of special rice noodles, and pot of hot tea — for just under $ 10. Wa even threw in two pieces of «dim sum»(halved jalapenos stuffed with seasoned ground pork and browned on the griddle) for us to sample on the house. The ingredients alone would probably cost more at a grocery store than what we paid. But be warned… like your Chinese grandpa, Wa doesn’t like to clean much. This is probably the dingiest restaurant ever — every inch of this cramped space, from stovetop to utensils, is covered with grease and/or dust. And, like your Chinese grandpa, Wa enjoys the company and will want to chat the entire time you’re there — in fact, Wa’s friendly regulars are likely to strike up a conversation with you, too. So, if you are trying impress your boss or date, or feeling a bit antisocial, this might not be the place for you. But if you’re looking for inexpensive food, earnestly cooked, Jade West is a one-of-a-kind dining adventure that doesn’t disappoint.

This place is NOT Howin!!! So remember the address and the name when you go out in search of this five star restaurant on Cali near Fauntleroy or else you may accidentally end up at Howin. You do not want to accidentally end up at Howin.

Hungry, hungry, hungry. La da da da. You mix hot soup with with regular? You really stupid! Four dollars for massive breakfast, see you soon! Oh, Wah, I don’t want to think of life without cheap, amazing food at your dank little counter, accompanied by your ribald sarcasm. Seriously, Jade west has huge, cheap breakfasts, and great Chinese food, all cooked in front of you by Wah Wong. Best won ton soup ever!

Jay wes. I love Wah and he makes one hell of a house omelet(as big as a plate. a big plate, I kid you not). The won ton soup is to die for. He hand makes the won tons while you wait. Everything on the menu is under $ 6 and well worth it. It does takes a good hour or two to dine at Jade West, depending on how many customers he has, but it’s worth it. Wah is a one man show; no sous chefs here. A word of advice: Don’t order the cheeseburger. He’ll openly mock you, as will his regular customers. Great food, great prices, great experience. i give him two awkward coffee cup slogans up, ie: «Kiss me I’m easy.»
